USE
Refrigerator/Freezer - Starting-up
and Temperature Regulation
Insert the plug into the wall socket. Open the
refrigerator door and turn the thermostat knob, to be
found on the upper right side of the inner liner
clockwise, beyond the «O», position, to start the
appliance.
Temperature adjustment is obtained by turning the
thermostat knob to the required setting. A medium
setting is generally the most suitable.
However, the thermostat knob setting should be
adjusted depending on the temperature required
inside the appliance. This, in turn, depends on a
number of factors such as the ambient temperature,
the number of times the door is opened, the quantity
of food stored and the location of the appliance.
Turn the knob clockwise, to higher numbers, to obtain
a lower temperature, or anticlockwise if a higher
temperature is required.
Freezing fresh food
The 4-star compartment is suitable for long
term storage of commercially frozen food and for
freezing fresh food.
Never exceed the expiry dates shown on the packages
by the manufacturer.
Under normal circumstances, to freeze fresh foods it
is not necessary to change the setting of the
thermostat knob with respect to the normal running
position.
However, for a quicker freezing operation, turn the
thermostat knob to the coldest setting; but remember
that, in this condition, the refrigerating compartment
temperature might drop below 0
°
C. If this occurs
reset thermostat knob to a warmer setting.
To help you make the most of the freezing process,
here are some important hints:
Place the food to be frozen in the bottom basket of the
freezing compartment as this is the coldest part.
The maximum quantity of food which can be frozen
in 24 hours is shown on the rating plate.
Only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned,
foodstuffs.
Prepare the fresh food in small portions to enable it to
be rapidly and completely frozen and to make it
possible subsequently to thaw only the quantity
required at the time.
Wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene and
make sure that the packages are airtight.
It is advisable to show on the single food packet or on
the write-on produce strips to be found on the front
part of the storage baskets the freezing-in date to
enable you to keep tab of the storage time.
Do not allow food to be frozen to be in contact with
food which is already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in
temperature of the latter.
Important
Never put fizzy drinks in the freezer as they might
well burst.
Ice lollies, if consumed straight from the appliance,
can cause frost burns.
Once the foods have thawed out, use them very
quickly, since they deteriorate fast.
A special card is located in the holder on the inner
door of the freezer compartment. On the upper part it
shows pictures of different types of food followed by
a figure. These figures indicate the maximum storage
time, in months, for each type of food.
Details of food being stored, can also be written in
pencil on the lower part of the card.
Storage of frozen food
To obtain the best performance from this appliance,
we strongly recommend the following:
Make sure that the commercially frozen foodstuffs
were adequately stored by the retailer.
Make sure that these frozen foodstuffs are transferred
from the foodstore to the consumer in the shortest
possible time (a temperature increase of the frozen
food could shorten its storage period). It is also
advisable not to exceed the storage period indicated
by the producer of the food.
Do not open the door frequently or leave it open
longer than is absolutely necessary.
If there is a power failure when food is in the freezer,
do not open the door of the freezing compartment.
The frozen food will not be affected if the power cut
is of short duration, otherwise it is recommended that
the food should be used within a very short time.
GB
8
Thawing
Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can
be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room
temperature, depending on the time available for this
operation.
Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directly
from the freezer: in this case, cooking will take
longer.
Ice cubes trays
The refrigerator is provided with one or more ice
cubes trays.
These trays should be filled with drinking water and
then be placed into the freezer compartment.
Do not use metal tools to remove the trays when they
are stuck-frozen inside the compartment.
Fresh food refrigeration
To obtain the best performance:
do not store warm food or evaporating liquids in the
refrigerator;
do cover or wrap the food, particularly if it has a
strong flavour.
Position food so that air can circulate freely round it.
Useful hints:
Meat
(all types): wrap in polythene bags and place on
the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer.
For safety, store in this way only one or two days at
the most.
Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc..:
these should be
covered and may be placed on any shelf.
Fruit and vegetables:
these should be thoroughly
cleaned and placed in the special drawer(s) provided.
Butter and cheese:
these should be placed in special
airtight containers or wrapped in aluminium foil or
polythene bags to exclude as much air as possible.
Milk bottles:
these should have a cap and should be
stored in the bottle rack on the door.
Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic, if not packed,
must not be kept in the refrigerator.
9
Movable shelves
The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a
series of runners so that the shelves can be positioned
as desired.
Positioning the door shelves
(Fig. 7-8)
To permit storage of food packages of various sizes,
the door shelves can be adjusted in height.
To make these adjustments proceed as follows:
Gradually pull the shelf in the direction of the arrows
until it comes free, then reposition as required
(Fig. 8).
For more thorough cleaning, the top door shelf can be
removed by pulling it in the direction of the arrows,
then refitting it in position (Fig. 9).
Defrosting
Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator
of the refrigerator compartment every time the motor
compressor stops, during normal use. The defrost
water drains out through a trough (Fig. 10) into
special container on the back of the appliance where it
evaporates.
The freezer compartment, however, will become
progressively covered with frost. This should be
removed with the special plastic scraper provided,
whenever the thickness of the frost exceeds 4 mm.
During this operation it is not necessary to switch off
the power supply or to remove the foodstuffs.
However, when the ice becomes very thick on the
inner liner, complete defrosting should be carried out
and it is advisable to carry out this operation when the
appliance is empty.

10
To carry out complete defrosting of the freezer
compartment proceed as follows:
Unplug the appliance from the power supply or set the
thermostat on the «O», position.
Remove the frozen foods, wrap them in several sheets
of newspaper and then keep them in a cool place.
Leave the door open.
Place the plastic scraper in the appropriate seating at
the bottom center, as shown in Fig. 9; place a basin
underneath to collect defrost water (Fig. 9).
After complete defrosting dry the interior thoroughly.
Keep the scraper for future use.
Reconnect the appliance to the power supply, start it
up and, after half an hour, replace the foods
previously removed.
Important
Remember that an increase of the surface temperature
of already-frozen foods may significantly decrease the
duration of their conservation.
Never use knives or metal objects to scrape away the
accumulated frost from the evaporator, as you could
damage it by doing so.
