OPERATION
Starting-up and Temperature
Regulation
Insert the plug into the wall socket. Open the
refrigerator door and turn the thermostat knob, to be
found on the upper right side of the inner liner,
clockwise, beyond the «
O» position, to start the
appliance.
Temperature adjustment is obtained by turning the
thermostat knob to the required setting. A medium
setting is generally the most suitable. However, the
thermostat knob setting should be adjusted depending
on the temperature required inside the appliance.
This, in turn, depends on a number of factors such as
the ambient temperature, the number of times the
door is opened, the quantity of food stored and the
location of the appliance. Turn the knob clockwise, to
higher numbers, to obtain a lower temperature, or
anticlockwise if a higher temperature is required.
Storage of foods in refrigerator
compartment
To achieve the best results with the refrigerator
compartment, you should follow some very simple
rules:
Do not put warm foods or evaporating liquids in the
refrigerator;
cover or wrap foods (particularly if they have a strong
smell or contain aromatic herbs);
do not cover the shelves with paper or plastic since
this blocks the air circulation in the compartment.
Please note: Do not place foodstuffs and paperbags
etc. in contact with the evaporator plate at the rear of
the refrigerator compartment as this can lead to
impairment of the operation of the refrigerator.
Further hints for getting the best out of your
refrigerator are the following:
Cooked food, cold dishes, jellies etc., should be well
covered.
Fruit and vegetables should be washed before being
stored.
Raw meat (all types, including poultry) should be
stored in plastic bags.
In this position, fresh meat can be stored for 1-2
days at most.
GB
32
Inner arrangement
Movable shelves
The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a
series of runners so that the shelves can be positioned
as desired.
Positioning the door shelves
To permit storage of food packages of various sizes,
the door shelves can be adjusted in height.
To make these adjustments proceed as follows:
Gradually pull the shelf in the direction of the arrows
until it comes free, then reposition as required.

Freezing fresh food
The 4-star compartment ( ) is suitable for long
term storage of commercially frozen food, and for
freezing fresh food.
Under normal circumstances, to freeze fresh foods it
is not necessary to change the setting of the
thermostat knob with respect to the normal running
position.
However, for a quicker freezing operation, turn the
thermostat knob to the coldest setting, but remember
that, in this condition, the refrigerating compartment
temperature might drop below 0°C. If this occurs
reset thermostat knob to a warmer setting.
To help you make the most of the freezing process,
here are some important hints:
Place the food to be frozen on the shelf.
The maximum quantity of food which can be
frozen in 24 hours is shown on the rating plate.
Only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned
foodstuffs.
Prepare the fresh food in small portions to enable it to
be rapidly and completely frozen and to make it
possible subsequently to thaw only the quantity
required at the time.
Wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene and
make sure that the packages are airtight.
It is advisable to show on the single food packet the
freezing-in date to enable you to keep tab of the
storage time.
Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food
which is already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in
temperature of the latter.
Important
Do not put carbonated liquids (fizzy drinks, etc.) in
the freezing compartment as they may burst.
Water ices, if consumed immediately after removal
from the freezing compartment, can possibly cause
the skin to be freeze burnt.
Remember that, once thawed, frozen food deteriorates
rapidly.
On the rear side of the door you will find a list of
foods followed by a number. These numbers indicate
the maximum period of time for which the food in
question may be conserved (in months).
Storage of frozen food
To obtain the best performance from this appliance,
we strongly recommend that you make sure that the
commercially frozen foodstuffs were adequately
stored by the retailer and, furthermore, be sure that
these frozen foodstuffs are transferred from the
foodstore to the freezer in the shortest possible time (a
temperature increase of the frozen food could shorten
its storage period).
It is also advisable not to exceed the storage period
indicated by the producer of the food.
Finally, do not open the door frequently or leave it
open longer than absolutely necessary.
If there is a power failure when food is in the freezer,
do not open the door of the freezing compartment.
The frozen food will not be affected if the power cut
is of short duration (a temperature increase of the
frozen food could shorten its safe storage period),
otherwise it is recommended that the food should be
used within a very short time.
Thawing
Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can
be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room
temperature, depending on the time available for this
operation.
Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directly
from the freezer: in this case, cooking will take
longer.
Ice-cube production
This appliance is equipped with trays for the
production of ice-cubes.
Fill these trays with water to 3/4 of their height, then
put them in the freezer compartment.
The ice-cubes may be shaken out from the trays by
simply twisting; do not use metallic instruments to
remove the trays from the freezer.
34
Defrosting
Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator
of the refrigerator compartment every time the motor
compressor stops, during normal use. The defrost water
drains out through a trough into a special container on
the back of the appliance where it evaporates.
Periodically clean the defrosting water drainage
hole of the refrigerator, using the special cleaner
already inserted into the discharge hole.
The freezer compartment, however, will become
progressively covered with frost. This should be
removed with the special plastic scraper provided,
whenever the thickness of the frost exceeds 4 mm.
During this operation it is not necessary to switch off
the power supply or to remove the foodstuffs.
However, when the ice becomes very thick on the
inner liner, complete defrosting should be carried out
and it is advisable to carry out this operation when the
appliance is empty.
To carry out complete defrosting of the freezer
compartment ( ) proceed as follows:
Unplug the appliance from the power supply or set the
thermostat on the «
O» position. Remove the ice-cube
trays and the frozen foods and wrap them in several
sheets of newspaper or, even better, in thermally
insulated containers, and then keep them in a cool
place.
Keep the freezer door open and introduce a container
filled with hot water (taking care to place this on a
layer of cardboard) so as to accelerate the defrosting
process.
Place a basin on the first grill shelf in the refrigerator
directly below the drainage hole and lift up the small
lid.
Absorb all remaining water with a sponge and then
accurately dry the freezer. Reconnect the appliance to
the power supply and then set the thermostat to the
coldest position for approximately 2 hours and then
shift it into the normal functioning status.
Replace the foods previously removed from the
freezer and the ice cubes trays.
Important
Do not use a mechanical device or any artificial
means to speed up the thawing process other than
those recommended by the manufacturer.
Remember that an increase in the surface temperature
of already-frozen foods may significantly decrease
the duration of their conservation.

MAINTENANCE
Unplug the appliance before carrying out any
maintenance operation.
Internal cleaning
Never use metal objects for cleaning your appliance
as it may get damaged.
Clean the inside and accessories of the refrigerating
compartment with warm water and sodium
bicarbonate (one tablespoon in 4 litres of water).
Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Clean the inside of the freezer compartment after each
complete defrosting.
External cleaning
Wash the outer cabinet with warm soapy water.
Do not use abrasive products.
Once or twice a year dust the condenser (black grill)
and compressor at the back of the appliance with a
brush or vacuum cleaner. An accumulation of dust
will affect the performance of the appliance and cause
excessive electricity consumption.
Periods of non-operation
When the appliance is not in use for long periods,
disconnect from the mains, empty and clean, leaving
the door ajar to prevent unpleasant smells.
Replacing the interior light bulb
The light bulb inside the refrigerator compartment can
be reached as follows:
ª
unscrew the light cover securing screws;
ª
unhook the moving part by pressing it as shown in
the figure.
If the door is open and the light does not come on,
check that it is screwed in adequately; if it still does
not work, replace it with one of the same power.
The rating is shown on the light bulb cover.
