Introduction
The GV7704 is a quad channel serial digital video receiver for High Definition
component video. With integrated high performance cable equalizer technology, the
GV7704 is capable of receiving HD video at 270Mb/s and 1.485Gb/s over 75Ω coaxial
cable, or differentially over a 100Ω twisted pair cable.
This document describes the use of the IBIS models for the GV7704. The models
facilitate simulation in EDA platforms compliant with the IBIS 5.0 standard.
1. GV7704 IBIS Model
Two IBIS models are provided for the GV7704, representing the high-speed serial inputs
and outputs: CHx_SDI/
CHx_SDI, CHx_SDO/CHx_SDO.
1.1 GV7704 Input IBIS Model
The GV7704 input model consists of two parts:
Package model
Input IBIS model
The block diagram in Figure 1-1 shows the sequence of signal flow and the individual
parts of the model. The external S-parameter data for the package model increases the
accuracy of the package effects compared to using discrete R, L, and C components as
specified in the IBIS 5.0 standard. The external S-parameter data is processed as part of
the channel by the EDA platform.
Figure 1-1: GV7704 Input Model
The GV7704 CHx_SDI IBIS models are extracted from device simulation results. The
input IBIS models contain the GV7704 device input termination circuitry, and are used
by the EDA platform to determine the time-domain impulse response for the channel.
Two models are included in the input IBIS model file for 50Ω and 75Ω input termination.
The current revision of the input IBIS model contains typical (Typ), minimum (Min) and
maximum (Max) corners. The desired termination model and corner can be selected
from the EDA user interface.

1.2 GV7704 Output IBIS Model
The GV7704 output IBIS model consists of two parts:
Output IBIS model
Package model
The block diagram in Figure 1-2 shows the sequence of signal flow and the individual
parts of the model. The external S-parameter data for the package model increases the
accuracy of the package effects compared to using discrete R, L, and C components as
specified in the IBIS 5.0 standard. The external S-parameter data is processed as part of
the channel by the EDA platform.
Figure 1-2: GV7704 Output Model
The GV7704 CHx_SDO IBIS model is extracted from device simulation results. Two
models are included in the output IBIS model file for 50Ω and 75Ω driver termination,
with fixed 800mV
pp
(differential) and 800mV
pp
(single ended) swings, respectively. The
current revision of the output IBIS model contains typical (Typ), minimum (Min) and
maximum (Max) corners. The desired termination model and corner can be selected
from the EDA user interface.
1.3 S-Parameter Package Model
A package model for the GV7704 is provided in standard touchstone format. Table 1-1
lists the touchstone file port mappings between die pads and package balls for channels
0 and 1. The package models for channels 2 and 3 are identical to channels 1 and 0,
respectively. The SDD21 through responses for each input and output are shown in
Figure 1-3, Figure 1-4, Figure 1-5 and Figure 1-6.
Note: During simulation, any unused ports should be terminated to 50Ω.
