Fundamentat
Princip)es

the
Liquid
Crysta)
Projector
The
white
tight
emitted
from
the
iight
source
is
separated
into
red
(R),
green
(G)
and
biue
(B)
tight
components
by
the
dichroic
mirror.
Each
component
is
projected
onto
one
of
the
three
liquid
crystal
panefs.
The
three
crystal
iiqufd
panels
are
respoctivefy
driven
by
Ft,
G,
and
B
primary
co)or
signals.
The
R/G/B
images
are
reproduced
by
the
shutter
operation
of
these
panefs.
The
R,
G,
and
B
pictures
dispfayed
on
the
three
paneis
are
again
combined
by
the
dichroic
mirror
into
one
and
projected
onto
the
screen.

voltage

generator
generates
and
applies
high
-
vottage
putses
with
peak
values
of
about
20kV
between
the
lamp's
positive
and
negative
electrodes
in
order
to
generate
g!ow
discharge.
This
in
turn
resutts
in
dielectric
break-
down
between
the
efoctrodos,
causing
a
shift
from
gtow
discharge
to
arc
discharge.

Lamp
The
meta)
hatide
tamp
consists
of
argon,
mercury
and
hatogen
compounds
enclosed
in
its
fuminous
tube.

At

center

an
arc
discharge,
haJogen
compounds
are
dissociated
into
metai
atoms
and
haiogen
atoms,
the

being
excited
so
that
it
emits

the
arc
discharge,
meta!
atoms
and
haiogen
atoms
are
bonded
again.
Repeating
this
cyclic
process
causes
iight
to
be
generated.

tamp
features
a
higher
[uminous
efficiency
than
haiogen
and
xenon
iamps.
Depending
on
the
compounds
enclosed
in
the
tamp
tube,
different
iight
spectra
are
generated.

Metai

are
a
mainstream
product
as
the
tight
source
of
high-
and
middle-
grade
liquid
crystal
projectors.
After
projector
turn
-
on,

required

tight
output
stabilizes.
After
the
projector
is
turned
off,
the
cooling
fan
operates
for
30
to
60
seconds
to
coot
down
the
tarnp
and
reduce
gas
pressure
inside
the
tamp.
During
this
"cooling
down"
period,
the
projector
cannot
be
turned
on.

Svstem
Contro)
To
ensure
correct
and
safe
tamp
illumination,
[amp
rumination
conditions
are
monitored
to
detect
abnormal
temperatures
in
the
iamp
power
source
and
to
control
the
cooiing
fan.
On
the
metai
haiide
iamp
used,
vottage
as
high
as
20kV
is
applied
at
striking
to
initiate
discharge.
Once
discharge
commences,
vott-
age
stabiles
at
about
85V.

addition,
the
iamp
aiso
generates
heat,
increasing
projector
interior
temperature.
A
cooiing
fan
prevents
temperature
increases.
Cooling
fan
operation
is
con-
trolled
by
the
CPU
which
monitors
the
iamp
power
source
to
determine

illumination

Correct
iamp
rumination
makes
the
tamp
power
source
send
an
"L"
signal
to
pin

the
CPU

suddenly
extinguished,

signal
is
sent

the
CPU

When
the
tamp

projector

turned
on,

CPU

chocking

input

projector
turn-
on.

Remove

cover
from

side
of
the

and
sponge
from
the
fitter
cover.

Clean
the
air
fitter
and
sponge
with
a
vacuum
deaner.
5.
Rep!ace
the
air
fitter
and
sponge.
Make
sure
that
air
fitter
cover
is
futty
inserted.
Do
not
ctean
with
water.
Doing
so
may
damage
the
air
fitter.
Do
not
operate
the
projector
with
air
fitter
removed.

the
internal
temperature
of
the
projector
exceeds
the
normal
temperature.
Possibte
causes
for
the
temperature
warning
may
be:
1.
Ventilation
slots
at
the
front
or
rear
of
the
projector
are
blocked.
In
such
an
event,
reposition
the
projector
so
that
ventilation
siots
are
not
obstructed.
2.
Air
fitter
is
clogged
with
dust
particles.
Remove
dust
from
the
air
filter
by
following
instructions
in
the
Air
Fitter
Care
and
Cleaning
section
above.
if
temperature

after
performing

checks
listed
above,
cooling
fan/internal
circuits
may
be
