Installation Guide:
1 Remove Steering Wheel Center Cap using a screwdriver to release retainer clips. Remove bolt securing
steering wheel to steering shaft (1/2” extended socket and extension required). Remove Steering Wheel
and set aside along with bolt.
2 Remove (2) bolts with 5/16” socket (1 on each side) from the Console
Cover (refer to illustration below). Console Cover bolts have course
threads - keep them with the Console Cover for reinstallation later.
Note proximity of bolt for
Console Cover near Gas Cap
Insert screwdriver between cap
and surrounding frame.
Gentle prying will release the cap.
These instructions apply to Craftsman Pro Series riding mowers (model #247.XXXXX)
Please read through entire instruction sequence before beginning installation.
Congratulations on purchasing a Craftsman Smart Lawn Connect Kit. The Craftsman Smart Lawn Connect Plug
will easily plug in to the back side of your Craftsman Rider’s Ignition Switch located on the dashboard.

WARNING Before performing any maintenance or repairs and to reduce the risk of injury,
disengage PTO, set parking brake, stop engine and remove key to prevent unintended starting.

4 Remove (2) bolts with 5/16” socket holding the Steering Shaft Support Column and remove the support
piece. Place aside, keeping the bolts together with the Steering Shaft Bearing Box (see illustration below).
3 Slide the Console Cover toward the rear of the tractor, unlocking the front tabs securing it (see illustration
below).

5 Remove (4) bolts with 5/16” socket holding the Console to the tractor (1 on each side, 2 in front - see
illustration below). Console bolts have ne threads - keep them with the Console for reinstallation later.
6 Unscrew Fuel Cap and let hang (see illustration below).

7 With all the bolts removed, and the side ll gas cap unscrewed from the tank, the Ignition Switch side
of the Console can be carefully lifted and twisted backward to provide access to the Ignition Switch and
Wire Harness Connector (see illustration below).
8 The backside of the Ignition Switch and Wire Harness Connector are revealed when the Console is lifted.
The Wire Harness Connector can now be unplugged (refer to illustration above).

Assembly is complete when the Craftsman
Smart Lawn Connect Plug is sandwiched
between the other two components.

It is not necessary to remove the
console. Simply rotate the corner
of the console up enough to
reach the Ignition Switch.
Your part may vary slightly in appearance.
9 Note prong conguration and install the Craftsman Smart Lawn Connect Plug onto the Ignition Switch.
Then plug the Wire Harness Connector into the Craftsman Smart Lawn Connect Plug.

11 Once the Plug assembly is secure, reposition the Console housing into place. Ensure the Parking Brake
lever is aligned with the opening. Line up bolt holes from Step 5 (refer to illustration below).
12 Install the 4, ne threaded bolts holding the Console to the Tractor (1 each side, 2 in the front - see il-
lustration above). The Fuel Cap can also put back on and tightened.

Before reassembling the Console, tug on the
ends of the plug assembly. When pushed
together correctly they should not pull apart.

10 When all three components are plugged together this is how the plug assembly looks (refer to illustration
below). NOTE: The base of the Ignition Switch prongs will be visible in the gap between the Ignition Switch
and the Craftsman Smart Lawn Connect Plug. This is intentional, and allows for proper plug functionality.

14 Install the Console Cover by aligning the locking tabs with the slot and slide it forward toward the front of
the tractor (refer to illustration below). Install (2) bolts with 5/16” socket (1 on each side) to secure the
Console Cover.
13 Insert Steering Shaft Bearing Box, and install the (2) bolts with 5/16” socket (refer to illustration below).
The spring tabs will click into
position when the Console Cover
is fully seated.

16 Reinstall the Steering Wheel Center
Cap by pressing down until you
hear it snap into place to
complete installation.

15 With the front wheels pointing forward, install the
Steering Wheel. Check the position of the Steering
Wheel to ensure alignment with the front wheels.
If they are not both pointing straight, remove the
Steering Wheel and adjust the wheels.
After the Steering Wheel is placed onto the shaft,
install the bolt securing the Wheel to the shaft
and tighten the bolt with a 1/2” socket and ratchet.
