Instructions for PTM-1645 & PTM-8100 Amps
Introduction
The PAC amplifier power controller is used in new
ADA PTM-1645 and PTM-8100 amplifiers. It incor-
porates a micro-controller for turn on power inrush
control and smart zone trigger control. Triggers are
activated by voltage input or by RS-232 data control.
You may use the triggers normally on a one to one
basis or you may custom assign any amplifier zone(s)
to any preamplifier trigger. Amplifiers can be set to
one of nine possible addresses permitting up to nine
amplifiers to be PAC linked together. You can also
select the bypass mode on the rear panel which will
activate all triggers anytime the main power is on.
The PTM-1645 has eight individually controlled ste-
reo outputs. The PTM-8100 has four individually
controlled stereo outputs. As such, only zones 1-4
are valid on the PTM-8100.
The PAC circuit is not an ADA bus device. For data
control it requires its own discrete serial port as there
is no handshaking, data flow control or collision de-

tection as with ADA bus devices. No special setup
program is required. Hyperterminal, included with
most Windows based PC’s or any suitable terminal
program can be used.

instant response is required. When Quick Turn On mode is off,
the amplifiers power supply is in standby when any zone is not
active. The first time the amp is activated, there will be a 3
second delay for the current inrush limiter before audio can be
heard. The inrush limiter also operates the first time the amp

Normal Operation - The amplifier can be operated in various ways.
1. Depressing the bypass button on the rear panel on the unit is the
same as activating all hardware triggers.
2. Individual zone triggering can be accomplished with the hardware
voltage input triggers. Each trigger will operate as configured in the
setup mode.
3. Individual zone triggering can also be accomplished by data con-
trol. Each trigger will operate as configured in the setup mode.
With data control (see below) you may cascade up to 9 amplifiers,
each set to a unique address. The address is changeable on the setup
page. For connections, the first unit connects to a standard RS-232
port with a 9 Pin female D-SUB to TRS male mini plug cable into
the data input jack on the rear of the amplifier. Addition units are
connected with a TRS male-to-male mini plug cable from data out-
put to data input. The last unit is automatically terminated when the
data output is unused. Again, when in setup mode, only one ampli-
fier may be connected to the serial port.
** NOTE ABOUT LOW VOLTAGE TRIGGERS**
Low voltage triggers and data control triggers will operate as they
have been setup. Low voltage triggers can be used along with data
control. Low voltage triggers will override data control
** NOTE ABOUT DATA FEEDBACK**
When in default mode, triggers and zones work one for one. If you
configure a single trigger to activate multiple zones, the data feed-
back indicates which zones are on, NOT which triggers are on.
Data Commands - All 8 amplifier outputs per address are loaded in one string.
