sessions.
Laundry
Wash soiled reusable clothing separately.
Workers must take a shower after each shift.
Wear protective clothing
Wear disposable or reusable coveralls with
long sleeves.
Treatment products
Keep products in a locked room that has
been approved for crop protection products.
Wear rubber boots
Wear chemical resistant rubber boots.
Eye protection required
Wear protective eyewear.
Hand protection required
Wear chemical-resistant gloves.
Wear a mask
Wear respiratory protection.
Clean seed
Use well cleaned seed to avoid creation
of polluted dust that will contaminate the
treating facility, workers, farmers and the
environment during sowing.
Empty containers
Non-returnable empty containers must be
triple rinsed before they can be disposed. For
others the recommendation of the producer
must be followed.
Cleaning
Use a vacuum to clean machines and
coveralls. Never use compressed air.
Spillage

thoroughly cleaned up to avoid contaminating
the environment and waterways.
Labels
Label recommendations and directions
for handling must be followed, including
treatment procedure (use of sticker) as well
as the safety requirements.
Calibration
Seed treatment equipment must be checked
and calibrated regularly to ensure accurate
and safe application.
7
EXPOSURE CONTROL
Application Rate Options
Step 3: Read the treatment product label for the desired
application rate per CWT (100 pounds) of seed...
Warning! Do NOT run seed at this time!
CALIBRATION
Example: 5 ounces of treatment/cwt of seed at a dilution rate of
1:1 with water equals 10 ounces/cwt of total treatment.
Warning! Exercise extreme caution when working
with chemicals! Refer to the Exposure Control Guide, page 7.
RATE: If listed in ounces, convert to ml (1 oz = 29.6 ml)...
Example: 10 ounces x 29.6 cc/ounce =296 ml
RATE: If listed in ml/pound, divide ml rate of treatment/cwt of seed
by 100...
Example: 296 ml/cwt ÷ 100 lbs = 2.96 ml/lbs
RATE: If listed in ml of treatment/minute, multiply ml of treatment/
pound of seed by lbs of seed/minute...
Example: 2.96 ml/lbs. x 400 lbs/minute = 1,184 ml per minute.
Chemical Calibration
Step 1: Push the gray button to remove the Quick Disconnect [A]
(from the Chemical Inlet) and connect it to the Calibrated Beaker [B] will
(The chemical Transfer line stays connected to the Quick Disconnect).
B
A
Step 2: Connect the Scale Power
Cord to an external 120VAC
source. Turn ON (touch) the Scale
Power Switch. Set the empty
Calibration Beaker on the Scale
and touch the ZERO button to
tare (zero out) the Scale. The digital
readout should display 0.00 value.
PUSH BUTTON
8 CALIBRATION
9
Note: The IP pump is rated in millilitres per revolution. Capacity
of the pump and element will vary with the viscosity of treatment
product used. The Pump (with #82 element) has a maximum
output of 2-1/2 gallons per minute.
CALIBRATION
Step 5: Hold the Liquid Pump #1 Switch (on the Control Panel) to
JOG for one minute. Chemical will draw from the Supply Tank, through
the Pump and into the Graduated Beaker on the Digital Scale. Release
the Liquid Pump #1 Switch (returns to OFF position). Note the
amount of chemical pumped in one minute and compare to the desired
application rate. Empty the Graduated Beaker back into the Supply
Tank. Repeat until desired amount of chemical pumps in one minute.
Step 6: Once the calibration process is complete and the desired
application rate is achieved, lock the Pump Speed Dial. Turn the
Pump Drive Switch OFF. Push the gray button to remove the Quick
Disconnect [B] (from the Calibrated Beaker) and connect it to the
Chemical Inlet [A].
Step 7: Repeat the Calibration process for LIQUID
PUMP #2,if used. Disconnect the Digital Scale Power
Cord when nished with calibration.
B
A
Step 4: Turn the Pump Drive Switch to FWD (the green light indicates
the Pump is turned ON). The Pump speed can be adjusted with the
black Dial knob. Faster = more chemical pumped, slower = less.
Example: if the required application rate is 10 ounces (296ml) of
treatment per hundredweight (cwt) of seed (60lbs in 1 minute),
the desired amount of treatment that needs to ll the calibration
beaker in 1 minute would be 177.6ml...
296ml ÷ 100cwt = 2.96ml x 60lbs = 177.6
