SECTION 3 OPERATION
After the Shield Gas Mixing Manifold has been installed, check the system for proper operation.
If the mixer manifold is to be used, it will be necessary for the output solenoid in the mixer to be turned on. When this occurs,
the shield output solenoid, in the proportional gas control, must be turned off. This is a simple toggling action. When one
solenoid is on the other must be off.
When the mixer solenoid is on it allows nitrogen gas to flow through the regulator and mix with the oxygen. The combina
-
tion of these two gases is introduced into the shield around the nozzle orifice. This oxygen enriched gas combination allows
the mixer to produce a very sharp edge on the cut. In addition, the oxygen combines with the oxygen existing in the nozzle
orifice thus producing, in some cases, faster cutting speeds on carbon steel.
If you are cutting stainless steel or aluminum it will be necessary to turn off the solenoid in the mixer. When this occurs the
nitrogen will be directed through the shield gas solenoid in proportional gas control. This will allow existing SDP files for
already existing cutting parameters to be used when cutting these materials.
Note:
The shield gas mixer is not to be used for cutting aluminum or stainless steel.
Setup:
1. Select the cutting parameters for the carbon steel thickness you wish to cut.
2. Install the correct consumable part for the cutting amperage required.
3. Open nitrogen regulator on wall to 100 - 125 psi.
4. Turn on mixer output solenoid and adjust regulator on inlet of mixer to 80 psi, nitrogen flowing.
5. Open oxygen regulator to 125 psi flowing.
6. Turn off mixer output solenoid.
7. Insert data from cutting parameters into SDP files.
8. Cut part. Vary cut quality and cut angles. The finished parts should yield cut angles +/- 2° square.
