An ESD-safe work mat may be rolled out and trimmed to t a clean,
solid work surface. Mat surface should be cleaned weekly with a mild
detergent and water or a static-control cleaning solution. Solvents should
not be used to clean ESD-safe surfaces as they can compromise the
conductive nature of the work surface. Food should never be consumed
at an ESD-safe work station.
Figure 4 shows an example of an ESD-safe work surface that includes
a wrist strap with a grounding cord and a grounding cord that snaps
into the ESD mat. The ESD mat grounding cord connects to a common
connection with the wrist strap ground which is then connected to a
ground point (electrical outlet).
Wrist straps should be adjusted for a comfortable, snug t. They must be
in contact with bare skin and never worn over cu or sleeve. The ground
cord snaps directly to the buckle on the wrist strap.
Other ESD work station options include heel-strap grounders as well as
oor mats that may also be connected to a common grounding point.
It is the responsibility of the technician to make sure work performed is
done so in an ESD-safe environment. ESD products described herein
are available from numerous manufacturers/distributors.
Chassis Removal
To remove the lid to access the I/O cards or CobraNet module, unplug the
AudiaFLEX and place it on a properly grounded anti-static mat. Follow
all ESD precautions as described previously in this document. Remove
any phoenix connectors attached to the rear of the unit.
NOTE: If adding cards, reset/initialize the Audia before removing
the top cover.
Rear panel
a. Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws that
attach the I/O cards to the chassis. The screws do not need
to be removed on channels without I/O cards at this time (a
metal plate covers the holes).
b. Remove the one screw located between the power entrance
and the serial port connector.
c. Remove the three screws along the bottom of the rear-panel
chassis.
Side panels
a. Remove the four screws on each side panel (eight screws in
total).
NOTE: Do not remove the two screws on the left side (if looking at
the rear panel) that are inset from the rest of the screws.
Top panel.
a. Remove the three screws from the top panel that are located
next to the front panel.
b. Remove the top panel by lifting it away from the side panels
(placing hands towards the front panel) and pulling towards
the rear.
