About this Guide
This guide contains installation, configuration, and operation information for the Extron
Electronics AXI22 AT D Audio Expansion Interface. In this guide, the terms “AXI,” “AXI22,”
“AXI 22 AT D,” and “interface” are used interchangeably to refer to the AXI22AT D.
About the AXI22AT D
The Extron AXI 22 AT D Audio Expansion Interface is a single-gang decorator-style audio
interface for integrating two mic/line sources onto a Dante-enabled audio system. It features
two XLR audio inputs and switchable 48 volt phantom power for connecting and powering
condenser microphones, plus gain controls for each input. The AXI 22 AT D also features
two line outputs on the back for routing any two Dante channels from the network to an
amplifier, or connecting into an optional secondary wallplate with two XLR outputs or RCA
outputs.
The AXI 22 AT D interfaces with any Dante-equipped audio processor, such as an Extron
DMP 128 AT, over a standard local area network, and can be powered through Power
over Ethernet (PoE) using Extron XTP PI 100 and XTP PI 400 power injectors, network
switches equipped with PoE, or midspan PoE injectors. This allows a single network cable
connection for bidirectional audio and power from a central equipment rack.
The AXI 22 AT D accepts two analog mic/line sources, and digitizes them for output via
Dante. It is connected into a Dante network over Ethernet using standard IP networking
protocols, avoiding the need for pulling long analog mic/line cables from an audio processor
to each wall, floor box, or furniture location. An audio system can be designed with AXI 22
AT D wallplate interfaces throughout a large facility, each connecting back into a central
equipment location over a standard network infrastructure.
The unit mounts in a standard 1-gang US opening using a decorator-style wallplate
(included), which is available in black or white. For information on mounting procedures, see
Mounting the AXI 22 AT D, beginning on page34.
AXI 22 AT D • Introduction 2
Features
Inputs — Two balanced mic/line level inputs on 3-pin XLR connectors for transmitting
audio to a Dante™ network
Outputs — Two balanced or unbalanced line outputs on a 3.5 mm, 6-pole captive
screw connector are located on the rear panel. They can be used for routing any
two audio channels from the Dante network to an amplifier, or for connecting into an
optional secondary Extron wallplate with two XLR or RCA outputs. The XLR outputs are
ideal for recording, or an ALS - assistive listening system.
Phantom Power — Each input includes selectable 48-volt phantom power and a
rotary, detented gain control.
Dante audio networking — Like all Dante-equipped audio products, the AXI 22 AT
D provides scalability for creating larger audio systems over a local area network using
standard Internet protocols.
Converters — Professional, studio grade 24-bit analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog
converters fully preserve the integrity of the original audio signal. The sample rate is
selectable, up to 96 kHz.
Removable cover plate — Input gain and phantom power controls are located behind
a removable cover plate on the front panel, which conceals all controls to prevent
tampering.
Secondary wallplates — Optional Extron WPD 102 XLRM and WPD 102 RCA
secondary decorator-style wallplates with two XLR or RCA outputs can be connected
to the line outputs of the AXI 22 AT D to provide a two-gang wall installation with XLR
audio inputs and XLR or RCA outputs.
Power over Ethernet — Power over Ethernet allows the AXI 22 AT D to receive power
over a single Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for a local power supply
Single-gang decorator
-style wallplate — The included single-gang decorator
-
style
wallplate is available in black or white to blend with a range of environments.
Power supply — An optional, energy-efficient external universal power supply
(replacement part number 70-775-01) provides worldwide power compatibility, with
high demonstrated reliability and low power consumption for reduced operating costs.
Ethernet monitoring and control — Ethernet control enables proactive monitoring
and management of the AXI22AT D over a LAN, WAN, or the Internet, using standard
TCP/IP protocols.

causing a short circuit between them. If they are any shorter, the wires can be easily
pulled out even if tightly fastened by the captive screws.
captives.
NOTE: Do not tin the wires. Tinned wire does not hold its shape and can become
loose over time.

Using a WPD 102 wallplate:
To provide additional outputs for the AXI 22, you can connect the AXI rear panel line
outputs to an Extron WPD 102 XLRM or WPD 102 RCA decorator-style wallplate. The
WPD 102 XLRM has two male XLR audio connectors and the WPD 102 RCA has two
female RCA connectors. Both are single-gang modules with a captive screw plug on
the back.
An AXI 22 and WPD 102 can be set up as a two-gang wall installation with XLR audio
inputs and XLR or RCA outputs. They also provide local wall, floor box, or furniture-
mounted connectivity for any audio system.
Figure 7 on the next page shows an example of a two-gang AXI and WPD 102

AT (PoE) port connector — This single RJ-45 Ethernet connector supports digital
audio transport (AT) and communications, providing a connection to the Dante network.
Using a straight-through Ethernet cable, connect the AXI to a network via the RJ-45 AT
port. On the AT connector:
A steady green (Link) LED indicates that the jack is connected properly to
the network.
A blinking amber (Activity) LED indicates data activity on the connection.
ATTENTION:
The AXI 22 AT D can use a 12 VDC desktop power supply and is also Power over
Ethernet (PoE 802.3at, class3) compliant. Do not connect either power supply
before reading the Attention notifications on
page 7 or page 10.
Le AXI 22 AT D peut utiliser une source d’alimentation externe 12 Vcc, et est
