2� ImageInstallaon

ThisseconexplainsthesetuprequirementsforboongfromaMicroSDcardortheSPIROMandeMMC.

Theinstallaonscriptles,precompiledU-bootandimageareprovidedinthe“Firmware”folder.

2�1 BoongfromaMicroSDCard

TherststepistoinstallthisimageontoaMicroSDcard.InsertaMicroSDcardintoyourLinuxhostmachine

andmakesureitisnotmounted.InstalltheSDCardimageontotheMicroSDcardwiththecommandsbelow,

replacing<devicename>withthecorrectvalueforthecard.

*Important: Makesureyouarewringtothecorrectdeviceorthehostsystemenvironmentcouldbe

damaged�

Next,ontheVAB-820,setthebootjumper(J11)totheMicroSDposionasshownbelow.

InsertthepreparedMicroSDcardintotheVAB-820,connectanHDMIdisplay,andpowerontheVAB-820to

iniatethebootprocess.

Whenthebootprocessiscompleted,youwillseetheOpenEmbeddeddesktop.

$ tar xvf VAB820_Yocto2.0_BIN_v4.1.2.tar.gz

$ cd sd_installer/

$ sudo ./mk_sd_installer.sh /dev/<device name> --yocto





















2�2 BoongfromtheSPIROMwitheMMC

TheVAB-820supportsboongfromtheSPIROMwhileloadingthekernelandrootlesystemfromeMMC.

TherststepistoprepareaMicroSDcardasthesysteminstaller.InsertaMicroSDcardintoyourLinux

hostmachineandmakesureitisnotmounted.InstallthesysteminstallerontotheMicroSDcardwiththe

commandbelow,replacing<devicename>withthecorrectvalueforthecard.

Next,ontheVAB-820,setthebootjumpertotheMicroSDposionasshownbelow.

InsertthepreparedMicroSDcardintotheVAB-820,andpowerontheVAB-820.Thesystemwillautomacally

starttoinstallU-bootandimageintoSPIROMandeMMC.

Whentheinstallprocessiscompleted,unplugthepowercableandremovetheMicroSDcard.

$ tar xvf VAB820_Yocto2.0_BIN_v4.1.2.tar.gz

$ cd sd_installer/

$ sudo ./mk_sd_installer.sh /dev/<device name>

ThisseconexplainshowtoenableandtestthehardwarefunconsprecompiledintheVAB-820LinuxEVK

includingsengupU-Bootparameters,conguringdisplayparameters,senguptheVideo-in,sengupthe

CVBS,conguringFlexCAN,conguringWatchdogmer,sengupGPIO,andconguringRTC.

3�1 SengUpU-BootParameters

WhensenguptheU-Bootparameters,therststepistoconnectthehostmachineandtheVAB-820through

theCOM2connector(J5).UseaserialportcommunicaonprogramsuchasPuTTY,GtkTerm,orMinicomto

congureserialportsengandconnecttothedebugconsole.ThereyouwillbeabletoseetheU-Bootboot

logandadjustsengsintheU-Bootconsole.

Next,powerontheVAB-820toiniatethebootprocess.Whenprompted,pressanykeytostoptheboot

processandentertheU-Bootconsoleasillustratedbythescreenshotbelow.
