Understanding Sony Television Blinking Codes
Many of the later model Sony TV’s have a built in self-diagnosis function. If the timer/standby indicator is blinking,
this could be an indication of a problem with the unit. The diagnostic blinking will occur automatically with no action
required by you to engage it.
The timing of the blinking you see would be as follows: two to nine blinks, (depending on the fault), about a third of
a second apart, then a pause for 3 seconds, then the two to nine blinks about a third of a second apart again.
Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the number of blinks. The words in parentheses
are those, which you will see for each of these faults on a diagnosis screen described later in this article.
Intermittent problems? This is a great feature. You can also bring up these fault codes on-screen to see a list of the problem numbers with the
abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem has occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To
see the diagnostic screen, press the following buttons: Display, Channel, 5, volume Minus, ( not plus ) then Power. This brings up a screen with
a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred. Each of the problems named, are abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP",
ETC. We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks" described above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and
the blink codes.
Now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them? Say that you have a set with a black screen. You see that the LED is
blinking four times. This would tell you that you have no vertical sweep, which is why the video is muted. If it was blinking 6 times, you would
know that you have a horizontal fault. It's not a sure cure..
IMPORTANT: After you repair the unit, you MUST clear the values on this diagnostic screen. These codes do not reset themselves after the
fault is corrected, so if you don't clear them, you'll be seeing "old" fault codes the next time you enter this screen. Clearing is done by going into
the service mode (display, channel, 5, volume plus, then power ). Press 8 and Enter, which returns everything to the factory preset condition.

hi, might be I'm missing something, but would greatly appreciate a bit more info. I have a kf 42sx300 which was repaired last year and I saw
this diagnostic screen so I know the tele has it. However, the buttons you describe that need pressing do not appear on my remote,
specifically 'display' and 'channel'. Are they known by another name in the user guide?
thanx

Unit is dead, No
blinks
-
Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse,
R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and
VDR601 (should show
open).
Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No
reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground,
or held high), IK video path is defective.
One blink - not used for the self-diagnosis
Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2
blink fault. Could be a
short in the power supply of any of the circuits.
Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is
also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted.
Check IC1509, Q1505
Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the
self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on
the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen
slightly.
Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 &
516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety
shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
Eight blinks
-
Problem with
the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self
-
diagnosis code.
Check IC406
audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback
transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.
Nine blinks
-
Replace D 6116 and D 6301
on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or
Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times
you get flashing, then change the
switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -
12 or -13 (negitive).
Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors
are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.
Hi, I have a KP-FX432M91 which 10 blinks. What it mean? Please help... Thanks

How do I check for C515, C516 or jungle IC, IC206?
Larry Dillon on January 6, 2007 11:47 PM
Your going to need the right test equipment my friend. An ESR capacitor type checker is first. If your not a tech and have no solid state repair
experience, play it safe and call out a pro to assist you in this type of repair. If you do not know how to check capacitors, no insult my friend
but a TV set is no place to be experiementing around inside of. Good Luck and let us know how you made out.
prakash.subedi on January 13, 2007 7:16 PM
Made some progress, thank you. I went to Radio Shack and got some hints on capacitors and how to replace them (Being a computer
scientist took some courage). If ESR capacitor type checker is too expensive; it might be worthwhile just to go ahead and replace these
capacitors, seems. My only problem is that I need hints on where to find these capacitors on the circuit boards; there are about six boards.
Will appreciate any additional hints.
prakash.subedi on January 13, 2007 7:18 PM
By the way, could home insects such as cockroaches that get inside the TV cause capacitors to go bad?
Larry Dillon on January 17, 2007 2:52 AM
Roaches can cause all sorts of problems in a solid state TV set. (EEEWWWWW)
DavidT on January 18, 2007 9:01 AM
I have a Sony KP57WS500 and the light blink 5 times, what should I do? I can here sound and see black screen. Any advice will help..........
Thanks!
Larry Dillon on January 18, 2007 9:18 AM
Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis
function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the Cboard, also check Q218, 219,
220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly. This repair is not one that should be attempted
by the end user as there are no user replaceable parts inside this set. This repair will need speacial test equipment, unless the problem is the
indicated adjustment. Good Luck and let us know how you made out with this repair.
DavidT on January 18, 2007 9:27 AM
Larry, What do you mean by checking video out Q705,732,761. Is that a fuses or picture tubes. How do I know is that parts is bad any clues
will help
Larry Dillon on January 18, 2007 9:38 AM
You would need to have a VOM and know how to check the transistors with it. Your going to really need a schematic, locate those parts and
go from there. First though try thr adjustment. And sorry my friend if your not sure what that is, my advice would be to call in a pro to assist
you in this repair, as this set has alot of high voltage inside them even when the plug is not plugged in. Your also going to need to know how
to solder and unsolder on a printed circuit and solid state equipment.

Hi, i have the KDL-40V2000, whenever i turn it on the picture and sound switches on then off for a few times until it completely turns itself
off. The red light would then blink a total of 11 times after every 2 second period. What does this mean?
Larry Dillon on January 21, 2007 10:47 PM
abeldo, . I am assuming you have the Sony KDL-40V2000 Television. This is a UK model. This could be a problem in the backlight circuit or bad capacitors in the main power supply circuit. My best
advice on a set such as this, would be to contact your local Sony repair depot to assist you in this repair. Good luck and let us know what you decided
jacktumprime on February 1, 2007 12:31 AM
I have a Sony kp-57hw40. the television does not seem to be turning on, but the standby light blinks 6 times between pauses. The set was
taken to get fixed but because of certain circumstances was not and some wires remained unconnected. I I found most of the cords homes on
the circuit board where 2 sets of blue green and red wire sets go, but I have one connection that I cannot find a set of wires to connect to it. It
looks like the label on the circuit board says "Σ l K Check". The connection point is highlighted in the image supplied. Please let me know
what should be connected here as I cannot find any wires that remain unconnected. Also, does it seem that this is the cause of the tv's
disfunction? Any help is appreciated.

I think my first message got lost somewhere!
My 18 month old Sony KV-32CS70 has stopped and blinks 13or 14 times. Any ideas?
Larry Dillon on February 5, 2007 3:21 PM
jacktumprime, There is nothing connected to this plug. It is only a test location. It is there for a service tech to see if the set is in highvoltage
shutdown or if the set had no picture but had sound, you could measure the video 1k line and see if that is why the video was muted. The
socket should be marked CN8023, and this board is called the D board. This is an RA-6 chassis and is a good set. I am wondering why the set
was not repaired. Was it in an authorized Sony repair shop. If not you should find an authorized shop and get this puppy looked at. Good
Luck, and let us know what you had to do to get this TV set working.
jacktumprime on February 5, 2007 8:01 PM
Larry Dillon, might you give me a little advice as to what MAY be the problem. I only ask so I have a heads up for when I take it in because the
last guy I took it to tried to tell me that the D board I had didn't even go to my television. Here are the exact symptoms: When plugged in, (1) I
hear 4 clicks about half a second apart (pressing the power button after the initial plugging in also produces the clicks), (2) see the standby
light blink 6 times each iteration, and (3) no signs of ANY video or audio. Thanks a lot.
Larry Dillon on February 6, 2007 8:08 AM
Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle
IC, IC206. This means that somrthing is holding down the horizontal oscillator and not letting it start up. You could have a short in just
about anything in the horizontal sweep circuit, or the sweep power supply. Have you had this Tv anywhere else then the shop you had ir=t
in? I wonder why they said thats not the right board? I just hope they did not pull a switcher rro on you. i once seen a shop that did that to a
customer.
jacktumprime on February 10, 2007 1:27 AM
I have decided to make an attempt to repair the set myself because I know I will be charged as much as possible if I take it to someone in my
hometown and I really do not have money for that, so either I'll be able to fix it or its off to the junk yard. Do you have any hints as to how to
find where a short would have occurred; will a circuit tester do the job? Or can it be visual? Also, might you know what the purpose of this
white substance in the image is; either it came on the board originally or the guy I took it into put it there (possibly a marker for where the
short is?). The first thing I am going to do is replace the sweep power supply though. I really do appreciate the help.
Larry Dillon on February 10, 2007 5:56 PM
I do not know why that stuff is on the board. it could be silicon? Do you have a service manual or do you know how to read a schematic
diagram?
jacktumprime on February 11, 2007 4:47 AM
No, however I was just planning on purchasing one from someone on eBay.

I need some advice with the d board: as you know I am trying to repair a KP-57hw40. In order to make for a quick fix, instead of trying to find
where the problem is on the d board (already known the d board is the problem) I am going to order a new complete d board. However, the
only place I can find it at is selling it for over $400. Doing a little browsing, I found a d board for the KP-57WS500 for almost 1/4 that price. I
am pretty sure these are the same d board as they carry the same sony part #, so would there be any problems if I purchased the cheaper one
instead of the one listed for my model? Also, if I can use the cheaper alternative, are there any other sets that use the exact same d board?
Maybe I can find an even cheaper alternative.
Larry Dillon on February 19, 2007 4:58 PM
If it has the exact same part number, should not be a problem.

Hello,
I have a Sony KV-32v42.
The picture has started to collapse to the top of the screen then fold over "backwards" occupying about the upper 2 inches of the screen. It
will usualy stay this way for about 30 seconds to a minute then the screen will go dark. When it does show a picture it is usualy not for any
longer than a minute. Usually immediately before and during collapse the picture will show what appear to be retrace lines.
It started to die about a week ago. At first if I powered it off and on it would stay on. Now it doesn't seem to matter if I cycle the power or not
sometimes it comes on and dies as described above or it doesn't display any picture at all.
The sound works fine throughout the entire picture drop out and even when the picture doesn't respond at all the sound will work good.
It doesn't seem to be displaying any usable code. When I turn the set on, the TV clicks, there is a buzzing hum noise for about 0.1
seconds, and then the picture will come on. (The TV has always made this buzzing hum noise immediately after turn on, it lasts about as long
as it takes you to say the word "thrum", I had assumed that it was the degausing coil being activated.) The red standby light blinks at
approximately 1 hz until there is the sound of a relay click then the picture comes on. When the picture drops out it does not start any
blinking cycle. I have noticed that the light will blink until the second relay click, sometimes that doesn't occur, I have waited for over a
minute (counted seventy regularly spaced blinks) before I cycled power again.
I have tried whacking it with power on as an easy search for cold solder joints. It didn't seem to make any difference.
I am an Electronic Technician but I am not in the consumer electronics field. I don't regularly work with CRTs but I am familiar with high
voltage circuitry and safety precautions that should be taken with it. If you suggest particular components to check please let me know where
I can get ahold of a component placement diagram or drawing so I can find them.
I would like to fix it myself if possible because: the nearest SONY repair shop is over 100 miles away and the local TV shop doesn't work on
SONYs; our TV cabinet is designed for a 32 inch 4:3 aspect ratio TV; and with the signal off of the satellite system the picture doesn't seem to
be much different than the HD TV's until you slide up close enough to see the pixels. 1K to 2K dollars seems like an awfuld lot to spend for a
new TV that Doesn't seem to show a whole lot better picture than I had been receiving.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you may have a vertical output IC going bad or a capacitor in the vertical wave shapping circuit going bad. I can assist you with
a training manual and or a RA-3 chassis manual if you like as I will e-mail it to you via Pando because these are large files. Just conferm the
chassis Number and leave an e-mail addy and I will forward the service manuals to you. Let us know how this repair turns out and Good

DakotaFox on February 26, 2007 9:11 PM
Thank You,
As Soon As I can find a couple of guys to help me drag this behemoth out of it's hole I will get the back off of it and see wha the chassis
number is.
I put a little 13" That has no remote (Gasp!) in front of the Sony and used the Sony for remote sound control. My wife cycled power once
after it had been on for a couple of days. The Picture came up. I had read a thread where a guy had a different model Sony that he had to
keep powered on or it would take up to 36 hours to allow the picture to come up. I told this to my wife, now she won't let me shut it down to
get the back off. It's tucked in a very tight spot so I can't get the back off until I get it out of it's hole and to do this I need to unhook it.
Picture looks as good as it ever did. It has 3 picture modes, Vivid, Movie and Normal. I programmed one of the modes to be as dark as I
could get the picture and use this as the "off" time setting.
I'll get the info to you as soon as I can. Thank you Very Much!

Larry Dillon, I'd like to thank you for all your help, most people probably wouldn't have provided the advice you did for me free. My set has
come back to life after I replaced the d board with one from a KP-57WS500. After I took a closer look, the part number for the d board from
this set and from my KP-57HW47 are different sony part numbers, but the parts looked identical at a glance. So, to pass on some advice to
anyone who has my set (KP-57HW40) and needs a new complete d board (which costs ~$400.99), the cheaper d board for a KP-57WS500 /
KP-46WT500 / KP-51WS500 / KP-65WS500 (~$140) works just fine.

I do have one last question: After replacing the d board, are there any adjustments anywhere else I need to make? I ask because the red blue

Larry Dillon on March 8, 2007 10:40 PM
Sound like you may have a convergence problem my friend. And thank you so much for the compliment! Glad we could assist you.

I have a Sony Model KV-27FS200. I recently replaced the flyback transformer which brought it from dead to where I now have a picture
however the picture is GREEN. It is blinking 5 times. I tried to pull up the diagnostics screen but the TV starts up with a picture but shuts off
after approximately 5 seconds. If I change the channel the video comes back and all the channels are displayed. I am not an electronics
technician and do not really have any diagnostic devices so if I need to check something out, I will probably go and buy it and just replace it.
Currently I have spent $27 versus an estimated repair of over $200. I still have a little money to spend. I would appreciate any advice.
cmontalvocarlos on March 9, 2007 5:41 PM
i have a continuous blink once a second no pausing. What part do i need to repair this problem? on your chart it says ik video path is
defected. what does that mean?
Larry Dillon on March 9, 2007 6:51 PM
That means that the video IC is not putting out a video pulse to the 1k video line. it may have a shorted componet along the line, the video ic
could be shorted or a short in the video circuit somewhere. Almost anything in the video circuit can cause this. Some times there are small
capacitors that can cause this problem but not one in paticular that I know of goes bad. This set is going to need to be diagnosed with the
proper service manual as well as the proper test equipment. Sorry no quick fix here. Please call in a pro to assit you in this repair. Good

Larry Dillon on March 15, 2007 12:24 PM
Sorry to inform you but you can take out the blue tube and install a new one in the home BUT there will be several alighnments that need to
be done to this set after the tube is replaced. You will need a service manual to perform these because of the on screen seervice menu. I have
the service manual and will send you a copy if you want it, but I send it through a proggy called pando because of the size of this service
manual. You can get Pando for free at www.pando.com
Flo on March 16, 2007 9:27 AM

I also agree with jacktumprime about your helpfullness and professionalism. Anyone else would expect to get paid for the time and advice

Here is my e-mail: [email protected]
Thanks again.

leoglenn on March 22, 2007 11:15 AM
Thanks Larry. I received the manual. However, unlike jacktumprime, I'm going to get a little ambitious and try to repair the d board myself
(instead of just buying a new one). Partly due to financial issues (unfortunately I was just laid off from my job) and partly due to the fact that
I'd like to learn more about electronics and how to better use an OVM. I'm fortunate enough to own a very good OVM that was purchased for
me from a previous job (I was working in the residential construction industry). I'm also fortunate enough to have the time since I'm
currently unemployed.
You mentioned previously to jacktumprime to check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206. I assume these are located on the d board. Also,
are these voltage regulators or resistors (or neither). In addition, any information on what settings I need to have the OVM set to to check
these parts, and what kind of reading i'm looking for (or possibly a good web-site to verse me on how to properly use an OVM) would be
greatly appreciated.
Larry Dillon on March 22, 2007 11:20 AM
OVM? You talking about a digital multimeter? A VOM?
leoglenn on March 22, 2007 11:34 AM
Yes, thats what I'm talking about.
leoglenn on March 23, 2007 8:15 AM
Yes, Sorry to show my ignorance. When I refered to OVM, I meant a digital multimeter. Can you give me any advice on what circuits I need
to be testing? You mentioned to jacktumprime to check the C515 & C516 and the jungle IC, IC 206. Are these located on the D board?

Hello. I just recently aquired a Sony KV-34hs510 . Problem its having is the six blinks when pluging it in the outlet. I've seen the info in
reguards to Checking C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206. Thing is, I took the cover off last night to take a look inside. I decided to plug it in
with the cover off and for some strange reason it started workiing allowing me to watch tv and dvd's all last night. I try to turn it on this
morning and the same original problem comes back with the six blinks. Might anyone have any input on this?
Larry Dillon on March 25, 2007 10:42 PM
sorry about the delay leoglenn, Using a multimeter is not something I can explain here as there are tons and tons of info on using a
multimeter. You will need to learn what AC and DC circuits are, what resistance is, how to read or look at a resistor and know the value by
the colors on them. This is certainly not somnething you will learn overnight or even in a month or so. I have been in the electronic repair
biz for a long long time and I had to learn how to use all of the tesy equipment myself. Ok forst off, you really cannot get a reliable reading or
a test for a capacitor with a digital meter unless there is a built in ESR meter.
leoglenn on March 26, 2007 8:43 AM
I understand. I've actually done some research and figured out what I needed to know as far as using the multmeter. There was a part on the
D board called the FBT Assy/NX4006 that was fried. This part alone was $70, so I decided just to go ahead and order the entire D board
($140) since I could not be for sure if any other circuits were fried. I'll let you know what happens as soon as I get the new D board in.
I do have one other question regarding the high voltage cables. One of the high voltage cables that went into the FBT Assy was damaged. I
cut the damaged part off, re-stripped it and soldered a generic connector tip that I purchased from Radio Shack. The specifications on the
generic connector are as follows:
contact resistance: 0.0025 ohm / max. current per circuit: 20 amps / max. voltage per circuit: 250 volts / voltage drop: 2.5mV at 1A
Is this connector going to be adequate for this application?
Larry Dillon on March 26, 2007 9:09 AM
Should be and good luck
leoglenn on March 26, 2007 12:54 PM
The D-board actually arrived this morining, and its already installed. The TV works great after the auto focus adjustment, however I am
getting some slight distortion accompanied by wavy green lines at the top left corner of the screen. It is only in the top left corner and not all
the way across. Do you have any idea what this could be. I'm sure it's an adjustment but I cannot figure out what adjustment it is. The
service manual basically gives instructions on all adjustment but it doesn't give specifics for my paticular problem.

Hi Larry,
I have a Sony TV KP-57HW40 and week back I have red spark on the tv and tv switched off and it started blinking 5 times. When I try to
switch on the tv it comes with full blue screen with lines and immediately switches off and 5 blinks continues. I called Sony service center and
they told me the blue CRT tube is bad and requires to replace and they do not have the part. I found the part online before I order the part I
went through your post and found that I need the service manual to aline. Can you please send me the manual?
I found this Discussion very helpful.
Thanks

Thank you very much I got the manual.
I have a question.
When facing TV, left tube not lighting is this the CRT needs a replacement?
Is this one blue tube?
Can I go a head order the part?
Thanks,
Ramana
Larry Dillon on March 28, 2007 7:56 PM
Ok it could not be lighting for many reason. First swap out the board at the end of the green tube right next to it and see if it lights. If the
tube does not light switch the HI voltage lead on the high voltahe spitter to see and make sure that the problem is not there. Afyer all the
swaps, and the tube will not light still, Yes I would say the tube is defective.

Hi, I am posting to see if someone could tell me what the self diagnosis I got from my TV means, in not so technical terms. This is what it
reads:
2: +B OCP 0
3: +B OVP 0
4: VSTOP 0
5: AKB 1
9: ZCD 1
10: 9VON 0
101: WDT 2
Serial: 1

Is this problem an easy fix, or should I just get a new television?

I have a Sony Model #KV-32FS320 FD Trinitron Wega and I am getting 9 blinks. Does this mean that the switching regulator has gone
south? If so what is the average cost to have this replaced? The set will from time to time turn back on, but then once it is turned on, it's back
to the self timer blinking its 9 blinks. I have even unplugged the set for a period of time in hopes that it was just an error caused by
inadvertently hitting the wrong button(s) on the remote, (supposedly according to the owner's manual unplugging the set will reset some of
the codes) but to no avail. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have a KV-27S42 and am getting the THREE Blinks---B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode
then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
I am not sure what this means or where to check. I am not affraid to crack the case and get after it, but just
dont know where to start with this. Any advise?
lgnicolas on April 11, 2007 10:48 PM
We have a KV-27S26 Sony Trinitron. When we try to turn it on, the standby light keeps blinking 1 second apart. The screen is blank, but
with sound. I saw that when that light blinks this way that there's a problem with the jungle IC or the IK video.
The thing is, once in a while, after repeated turning it on and off, we could make the set work. Sometimes, when the video comes on, after a
few second it will will turn gray then video out. Then sometimes, the video will come on for a few second, then the picture will only be
displayed at the upper half portion of the screen (reversed) then video will go out again.
What's even weird, sometimes, after that repeated on/off sequence, the set will turn on and will work great for hours (even days if we leave it
on) until we turn off the unit. Then it's back to that same problem.
Does this problem makes any sense to anybody? This TV was manufactured back in 1997 and I'm still debating if it's worth sending to the
repair shop. If anybody has any idea, please let me know.
Thanks!

Larry, at the risk of sounding very dumb, I need to ask you the following: on my kp57hw40 i am trying to put in in diagnostic mode per your
instructions.
question1: do i start with the TV on or off?
question2: when you say, in the sequence, to press Channel, is it Ch+ or Ch-?
question3: is there a way to get a standard picture on the screen to see if the colors are what they should be?
Many thanks,
Paul
jacktumprime on April 28, 2007 1:24 PM
Hello again, unfortunately I am back. I was surprised with a not so great present on my birthday. While watching my newly fixed kp-57hw40
last night, the screen began flickering while getting very fuzy and making a lound "sizzling sound" (not sure if the sound was coming from
inside the set or through the speakers, or both). Within 3 secs, the set powered itself down, but the standby light remained blinking. When I
pressed the power, it powered back on momentarily, but the problems starting reoccurring so I turned it back off. I am hoping that I simply
had the set on for too long as I was using it for various things nearly all day and all night. I come to you now to see if there is a known cause
for this, and what [if any] special measures I should take before powering the set pack on to test it. Thanks
jacktumprime on April 29, 2007 9:23 PM
Ok, I turned it back on today with the back cover off and literally saw flames coming from what I believe is the flyback transformer on the D
board (see image). I know I can get a new one to replace it with for pretty cheap, but will that fix the problem, or is it possible for something
else to be causeing the small flames which come from under this part?
pnjkimbro on May 4, 2007 3:52 PM
Okay, I have a sony kp51ws520 and it gives me nine blinks, I was above and saw what it might be, okay, now what? I bought this thing from a
consumer depot and they just laugh at me. What exactly is this part and where can I get it? I can't afford eight hundred dollars to tix it. I
just paid six for it.
fleance on May 7, 2007 4:06 AM
First off I just want to comment that this is an amazingly informative thread. That being said I'm hoping someone might be able to shed
some light on my 53XBR300.
I recently finished remodeling and tried turnning the box on after sitting dormant for probably 9 mo. or a year. I had it connected to a PS3
via Vido 5 and was having some video flicker which I attributed to the good old sync issues that I've had since I bought it. However instead of
just between scene transitions it started happening across all inputs and giving me the 5 (AKB) blinks.
The screen is on for a coule of seconds, and off for a few. When it's on the picture is perfect, if I use the auto-focus button it stays on for the
entire process and works fine but after it completes the box goes back to on again, off again.
Not exactly sure what is meant by 'turning up screen slightly.' Is this done via the service menu or physical adjustment? If it turns out it's
possible failure I reckon I'm handy enough with a meter to investigate if I had access to the service manual. <wink Larry>
Thanks,
-/todd

Sony KP-53HS10 continuously flashing light. What is the general verdict for:
"Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK
video path is defective."
If the cost for repairs in this direction is over a fer hundred dollars, I will try to fix it myself. I would scapt the set if I couldn't, so I have
nothing to loose.
Larry, do you happen to have a service manual for this set that you would be willing to send me? Thanks!

Larry Dillon on May 7, 2007 1:01 PM
fleance, Thank you for those kind words. You problem is that one or more of the picture tubes are probably going bad. You might be able to
turn up the screen or turn them down, depending on what is going bad in the tube. The screen controls are located in the front behind the
speaker grill and then there is another small wooden cover you have to remove several screws to get to. There are going to be six controls on
a small square. Three of these will say focus, and three of them will say screen. It is the screen controls you might want to try and adjust.
One is for the red, one is for the green and one is for the blue. Be fore you try and adjust these controls you will want to put on a black &
white picture like from a TV show or a DVD. The idea thing is a test DVD. You then want to adjust these controls down (counterclock wise
just a tad, but balance them out for the best possible black and white picture. If it does not work try the controls the other way. If this does
not help you, you will need to have the set serviced by a Sony repair depot. One very important thing is DO NOT TOUCH anything else inside
this TV set while it is one if you do not know what it does. Also if you get the picture to stop flashing, you may want to take off the screen and
while looking into each tube lens, rock the focus controls back and forth till you get the best focus on each tube. And while your in there
lightly wipe off the mirrors and the lenses but be careful not to scratch them. Good Luck with this TV set and let us know how you make out.
Larry Dillon on May 7, 2007 1:11 PM
Grin__and_tonic, I mailed you a copy of the service manual you requested. I hope you can get this set going. You could have dries up
capacitors or a video drive problem on the video board. Good Luck with this repair and let us know how you made out with this repair.

Excellent site fellas.
I have a KP-43HT20 and it's driving me nuts.
I got the dreaded 6 blinks and read the info above, however I cannot find the caps (515,516) nor the Jungle IC (found the jungle) IC 206.
Is it possible that these are numbered differently on my model?
Maybe Im blind...
They shouldn't be on the lamp boards, or the AV out board.
that leaves 3 (G, D, A, I think)
the PS (G), the one with H CONT on it (D)and another with the Jungle on it (A).
My plan was to extract the board and take the parts and board in to be repaired.
Or even buy a replacement board.
I just can't seem to find those components on any of them. If someone could tell me which board they are definately on and or where to look
for a replacement board I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Hi Larry,
I have the 2004 model KDP57WS655 with 9 blinks. I had a service tech come out and while he was here he visited the Sony website to get the
error code and suggested fix from Sony being the D6301 diode on the "G" board. His boss wanted $250 to replace the diode. I coughed up a
hairball. He checked the diode and wasn't sure it was faulty or bad. He also felt bad his boss is so greedy.
As he was not certain that replacing the diode would actually fix the problem, what do you think? I would be willing to replace the whole "G"
board if I have to.
How do I get a part number for this board so I can replace it?
Thank you for any help or guidance you can offer me.

Larry Dillon on July 6, 2007 9:18 AM
gotbaggz, it sounds like you may have two diodes that are bad on the G board. Replace the G board or replace the diodes, D6301 part number
is 6-500-567-21, and the D6116 part number is 8-719-081-97 and are available at http://www.partstore.com or a local Sony parts
distributor should have these common diodes Good Luck and let us know if this helps you out.
Larry Dillon on July 6, 2007 9:22 AM
PWP, Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-
diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check
Q218, Q219, Q220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly. If you have no solid state repair
experience, I'm afraid this is not a repair you should attempt. Play it safe and call out an authorized Sony repair shop to assist you in this
repair.
Larry Dillon on July 6, 2007 9:28 AM
cmaxwell4, the G board does not cause that problem I'm afraid. Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-
diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206. This means that the horizontal sweep circuit quit working for
some reason and needs to have the sweep circuit diagnosed. If you know how to troubleshoot solid state electronics, you should acquire the
service manual and diagnose the circuit. If you do not, play it safe and call out a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck and let us know
the progress and the outcome of this repair.

Larry Dillon on July 6, 2007 10:12 AM
Sorry about that cmaxwell, I did not look at the model number close enough!. This is an LCD set. It is possible that you replace the wrong G
board as there is a G1 and a G2 board. Are you absolutely sure of the blinking light? You will need to go into the set to take a few voltage
measurements before replacing any more boards. By the way the response I left you is not for this type of TV set. Sony has started to use the
same blinking codes on the newer technologies in TV sets as they did in the older Sony TV sets. I am in the process of upgrading these codes
to the newer TV sets.
cmaxwell4 on July 6, 2007 10:20 AM
We replaced the G1 Board based on the recommendation on page 8 of the service manaual:
Low B Error = 6 blinks = Probably Cause is No "DD 6V" output (G1 board)
We will check into it further. If we replace the G2 and that is indeed the problem, should the set automatically come on or is there some
type of reset that will need to be performed?

I have a Sony KDF-55WF655, after a couple minutes my screen will go blank and the standby light will blink GREEN about 35 times then the
screen reappears for another minute or so. This will happen over and over. I tried pulling up the error log with no luck.
Thank you for the help.
During my wait for a response I checked some other sites and found someone had a similar problem and they replaced the balast and the
lamp. Well being impatiant as I am I opened up my tv removed the lamp and noticed that there were screens on the top and bottom of the
lamp assbly and a tube at the top of the lamp receptical. I assume that this is some air flow path. One of the screens was about 95% blocked
with dust. I cleaned it and put it back together and yep it works (so far) I have a feeling I just saved myself $500 or so for a gram of dust

Hello. Unfortunately my trusted 7 year old Wega KV-32FS16, BA5 chassis, manuf July 2000 decided to take a dive the other night. We had
left it on and went upstairs for awhile and when we came back down, the screen had changed to a blue screen with horizontal/slightly
diagonal lines on it with the tv show picture as a ghost image, sound working fine, but standby light flashing 5 times and repeating. Changing
channels/vid inputs sometimes brought picture back momentarily, however it immediately was flashing red colors and then would fade to all
red before turning to the blue screen with the horizontal lines with a slight diagonal to them as well as the center lines had a slight hourglass
effect to them. Flipping to blank inputs for vid 1-4 would just give the blue screen/lines. Also noticed the viewable picture shrank about 1/2-
1" all around viewable front 4 sides. Turning off and on sometimes helped, but again not for long, and sometimes there was a wierd squeak
and electrical snap sound. After some cursing and stuff, got on web and ended up here among other places. Found a couple posts elsewhere
on web mentioning checking T501 and Q502 solder joints on A-board. Pulled tv apart and looked at things. I did find these solder joints and
they appeared ok, but I'm no electronics expert. I tried poking/pushing with a stiff rubber hose at certain parts/boards with tv on and there
didn't appear to be any obvious changes. Can any of you experts help me out here? Probable causes? More things to check? Am I going to
need to take to a repair place? Any ideas on repair cost? Anyone know any good ones in Reading, PA area? We really like this tv and didn't
have any plans of replacing it any time soon. Of course the irony of it all was we were in Circuit City the previous night just walking through
tv section and mentioned we would only consider getting something new if ours broke. As well, I just self installed 2 other Comcast cable
boxes on 2 other tv's in house the same day. Talk about bad coincidence. BTW, I have moved this tv out of the way and moved our 27" from
upstairs in its place and all works fine, so not a cable problem at all. Please help. TIA.

I have the same problem, five blinks, but on a Sony KP-61V80 projection TV. I have already replaced both the A and G board inside with new
ones. There are no video or sound. Should I try replacing the CR/CB/CG boards? Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi
I have a sony KV28WS2U. The tv screen goes red and then the tv goes in to blink code 2. I have tryed clearing the error buffer and the tv
works fine for a hour or 2 and then then goes red and in to blinkcode 2 again. Any idea how to fix this or how to stop it going in to blink code
mode. I dont care if it blows up as it will be scrapped just want to try and get a bit more use out of it if possible. Many thanks
Larry Dillon on July 7, 2007 10:12 AM
smee204, no the sets are designed to work with these protection circuits. Your problem is an over current protection condition. The problem
you have is with the CRT drive circuit or the piture tube itself. There just is no way to stop this from shutting down till you have the problem
in the set repaired. Good Luck

Larry, any insight on my issue with my 7 year old KV32FS16 with the blue screen with horizontal lines and 5 blinking standby lights? I
decided to pull the back off again last night and look at the various things you have noted for 5 blinks "Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic
kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the
video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the Cboard, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit
could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly." Now, is this info only applicable to newer machines, or possibly not mine? The
reason I ask is that I could find no transistors numbered as the six you noted above. On my C board (actually CA board, the board at end of
CRT) I only have Q700 and Q701. On my A board, I only found Q501, 505, 601, 602, 605, 609, 616, with unfortunately nothing obvious as to
damage/burned connection/etc. I found the CA board on the end of CRT on partstore for $9, which seems amazingly cheap for a whole
board, is this something one could simply swap if questionable? Also, I did bring up the fault screen which showed "5:011", which I assume is
fault code 5 eleven times. I just figured I'd get some opinions from you, and if help me fine, if not, I plan on calling some repair places
tomorrow to see what to do as we want our tv back. Thanks,Chad

I have a Sony KP51WS520. Nine Blink codes. I have a sevice warranty with Sears. The repair guy came out and said it had a "chort" he
ordered a D sub board. This finally came in 3 weeks later and he came out to repair it. He plugged the new board on and the same nine blink
codes. He fumbled around for another hour and a half and said he could not save my TV. He said my dog had urinated on the front corner of
the TV and "chorted" the other board out and they do not replace that board because it will erase the EPROM and all there will be is nothing.
His tools were a flashlight and a screw driver. I asked him to show me where and it was on a outside soild structure of wood. Well I then got
excuses of humidity, moisture etc. Should I replace the diodes or wait and fight it out with Sears.

Larry thanks for the forum. Without it and the other blogs and posts I would have never been able to have decent information to fight with
Sears. I downloaded the manual and referenced the pg for flash codes and the g-board. Even though it is PITA I will fight with Sears. The
Tech they sent could not speak english or write it. (proficiently)
It would be a lot easier to just replace the board myself. I was not aware of the Sears service issues until I had a problem. Seems this is their
normal text book proceedure not just for TV's but all of their appliances. I am glad it was not the refrigerator. Is there a good source for the G
Board part number A1054157A. Sony does not carry it and it would be nice to order a spare.

Hi Larry,
Since you don't have the manual, could you tell me if 6 flashes and 7 flashes usually indicates a faulty D board. I got an estimate over the
phone. $200 pick up and probably $500 for repairs. I have an electrical background and can replace the board myself. I just want to narrow it
down. I would rather change the whole D board than try to chase something down on the board itself.
Visually the board looks fine. I did find a bad connection on the white wire off the flyback x-former where it connects to the board that plugs
on to the tube. I soldered that and actually got the tv to work for a short time. Now it is back to the 6 flashes and 7 when you turn it on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This tv is driving me crazy!

Larry,
Thanks to you and other commenters for this thorough discussion of problems with various Sony models. Very informative.
I have a Sony KP-46WT500, which has gone dead. During a lightning storm, I heard a pop and saw a flash of light from the unit (which was
turned off at the time). The until will not turn on at all now, and there are no blinking lights.
I'm just trying to get a handle on what the problem might be, so I can decide whether to attempt the repair myself or call in a tech
professional. I have some minimal experience in electronics repair, but don't want to do anything where I am in over my head.
Any idea on what the problem may be?
Thanks in advance.
Larry Dillon on July 19, 2007 7:18 AM
feff1122, this set probably has a bad main fuse right now, but I highly doubt that is the only problem. That would be fuse # F6001, on the "G"
board. If that fuse is not bad, then you are going to have a blow input choke or line transformer that blew open, or the possibility of an open
printed circuit foil trace. If you see the fuse blown, replace it with a 100 watt light bulb. Simply attach two wires on the light bulb and attach
the ends on the fuse terminals. Plug in the set and turn it on. If the bulb pulses on and off, or comes on bright, there is a short in this TV set
and you will need to find the short with a meter and a schematic or replace the "G" board. There is also a possiblity that there are problems
elsewhere in this set. A power surge is a strange thing that causes all sorts of strange problems with electronics sometimes. If you would like
to save 25 bucks or so, leave an e-mail here and I will send you a copt of this service manual. You will need to go to pando.com and download
the free software so you can open this manual as it is a large file and thats the only way I can send it. Good Luck with this repair, and let us
know what you find with this TV set.
feff1122 on July 19, 2007 10:08 AM

Larry I have a Sony KP51WS500 television. Here is the problem the TV will not come on. The TV will turn itself off after 10 or 15 seconds.
The red standby light blinks 8 times , then off, then repeats the pattern.
The extened warranty expired 6.5 months ago. The repair people want about $150 to just come to my house, not to mention the labor and
parts charges associated with any repair. I have the feeling that they are posed to stick me with a $500 repair build with a 30-day guarantee.
Can you share any insight as to what the flashing code may mean and what steps should I take other than call a repair person?
---Thanks
feff1122 on July 20, 2007 9:06 AM
With reference to my kp-46WT500.
Fuse was indeed blown. Tested the 100watt light bulb, and test came back negative for a short (light did not come on), so I replaced the the
fuse. TV came back on and is working again.
One more quick question. I replaced the fuse with a 6.3a, 250v slow burn fuse from Radio Shack. The original fuse was a Buss GMC (slow
burn) 6.3, 125v fuse. I shouldn't have any problem with the additional voltage rating on the replacement fuse, should I? From what I
understand, you can go up in rating without a problem, but going down may cause issues in some circumstances.
Thanks for your help on this.
Larry Dillon on July 20, 2007 4:11 PM
feff1122, that is great that you have it working again. Although it is extremly rare that a surge will only blow a fuse, there are times when you
get lucky, and yes you did get lucky! Glod to have helped asd a repairman would have charged you at least 100 or so bucks to come out and
fix this, if indeed they would have replaced the fuse in the house. I have seen a few techs get up to 400 or so bucks for a job like this. The
voltage on the fuse really will not make a big differance, as it is the slow blow and the amps are correct, so you should be good.

shop. Will it be more than the set is worth?

even though i never got any comments to my posts on july 6 and 10, i figured i'd give an update, i just picked up my KV32FS16 at repair shop
last night after they replaced the flyback transformer for my screen that had red flashes until it went to a blue screen with white horizontal
lines, with diag code of 5 blinking lights (even though my research on here and on web didn't really point to that for 5 flashing lights) and all
seems ok.
i do have 2 quick questions though, i see on the invoice that he used transformer pn 1-453-338-41. when i look up my original part at
partstore.com, it was -11, however i see that that part was superceded by -21. no mention of -41 for my specific model. when i look up -41, it
lists -41, -21, and -31, with a note saying that -21 is a direct replacement of -41, but not vice versa. can i assume that vice versa would be the
case and that the -41 should be fine for my tv even though my model was not listed under -41. i'm sorry but i'm just being particular with the
part numbers.
second, while doing a quick browse through all the service mode settings after the repair (i had written them all down previous to the repair),
i see that the only one that is different is PREL, pre-shoot/over=shoot, changed from 0 to 1. what exactly is this setting for? would
something during the repair have changed this, or did/could it have changed when i did the self diag mode reset to reset the counter for the 5
blink error codes to zero since the repair tech did not do this? tia.

Hello Larry and everyone else!
My problem is with a 5 yr old KV-36XBR450. It is periodically shutting down. When this happens the power light blinks 4 times. I went in
to the self-diagnosis menu and it lists V STOP and AKB as having had an error. I called the Sony recommended service shop in my area. The
service technician diagnosed it as a problem on the D board. The shop called the next day and said they could not get a new D board and that
they would have to identify the exact problem and repair the old board. The charge would be $600+ (in addition to the $85 service call fee
already incurred!).
I am of course unhappy with this answer. I find it hard to believe that Sony no longer supplies new D boards.
My questions are:
1) is it true that a new D board cannot be purchased from Sony for this TV?
2) if a new D board is available, what would it cost and where can I get one?
3) if no new D board available what is the best source and price for a used one?
4) my only electronics experience is assembling my own desktop computers. Should I attempt to replace my own D board?
Thanks to all for a very informative and helpful web site!

Larry Dillon on July 27, 2007 7:23 PM
Gamb00ler, If I were you, I would search all of your address book for a friend who may have a little more printed circuit board experience then you do. This is not really a hard thing to replace, but there is a little more
involved then a simple plug to plug replacement. the high voltage lead for instance, it comes off a special way, and the service manual shows exactly how this is done, and also any adjustments that may need to be done, such
as convergence. No, every board is not exactly the same, as part tolerances are a bit different on every board. You can go to http://www.tristatemodule.com/. Find the phone number and see if you can get the D board
number off of the original board, as they have a few on special right now for like 80 bucks! Heck the fly-back cost more then that. The new D board also includes new convergence IC's. So if your picture tubes and the rest of
the TV set is in good shape, you should get several more years out of your TV set. Oh, if Tri-State does not have the board, or cannot repair it for you, try going to ptscorp.com, find the phone number there, and call them to see
if they have any exchange boards or maybe can repair your board for you. Sorry, the best I can do for you right now. You really should go to http://www.servicemanuals.net, enter your model number for the service
manual, and download the manual, as you should see how the board comes out, and like I said before, any alignments you may need to do. Good Luck with this repair, and let us know how you make out with this repair.

Ok, my wife CAREFULLY counted the blinks and it turns out we're getting SEVEN blinks, not six. I know that seven blinks means:
Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check
power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

Larry, Dakota-
I am having the exact same issue with my KV-32v42. I had a repair tech come out and diagnose the problem and he told me it was the IC
chip CXA2095S that was bad. (This chip controls the Y/C/RGB/Sync/Deflection for Color TV.) which seemed to make perfect sense to me.
What did not make sense was the 400 bucks he wanted to chanrge me when the TV only cost 600. Being in the IC industry I replaced the chip
myself and was
excited that my TV was working perfectly... until two days later and the same
thing started happening again. I have the
Service manual but would like some help diagnosing the problem further. Thanks in advance, this post itself had helped educate me
termendously about televisions in general and how they work. It is much appreciated.
Dakota, were you ever able to fix your tv and what did that require?
DakotaFox said: Hello, I have a Sony KV-32v42. The picture has started to collapse to the top of the screen then fold over "backwards"
occupying about the upper 2 inches of the screen. It will usualy stay this way for about 30 seconds to a minute then the screen will go dark.
When it does show a picture it is usualy not for any longer than a minute. Usually immediately before and during collapse the picture
will show what appear to be retrace lines. It started to die about a week ago. At first if I powered it off and on it would stay on. Now it
doesn't seem to matter if I cycle the power or not sometimes it comes on and dies as described above or it doesn't display any picture at all.
The sound works fine throughout the entire picture drop out and even when the picture doesn't respond at all the sound will work good. It
doesn't seem to be displaying any usable code. When I turn the set on, the TV clicks, there is a buzzing hum noise for about 0.1 seconds, and
then the picture will come on. (The TV has always made this buzzing hum noise immediately after turn on, it lasts about as long as it takes
you to say the word "thrum", I had assumed that it was the degausing coil being activated.) The red standby light blinks at approximately 1
hz until there is the sound of a relay click then the picture comes on. When the picture drops out it does not start any blinking cycle. I have
noticed that the light will blink until the second relay click, sometimes that doesn't occur, I have waited for over a minute (counted seventy
regularly spaced blinks) before I cycled power again. I have tried whacking it with power on as an easy search for cold solder joints. It didn't
seem to make any difference. I am an Electronic Technician but I am not in the consumer electronics field. I don't regularly work with CRTs
but I am familiar with high voltage circuitry and safety precautions that should be taken with it. If you suggest particular components to
check please let me know where I can get ahold of a component placement diagram or drawing so I can find them. I would like to fix it
myself if possible because: the nearest SONY repair shop is over 100 miles away and the local TV shop doesn't work on SONYs; our TV
cabinet is designed for a 32 inch 4:3 aspect ratio TV; and with the signal off of the satellite system the picture doesn't seem to be much
different than the HD TV's until you slide up close enough to see the pixels. 1K to 2K dollars seems like an awfuld lot to spend for a new TV
that Doesn't seem to show a whole lot better picture than I had been receiving. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You for your
time.

Hey Larry-
Thanks for all to info you give everyone. You certainly know your stuff!
I have a Sony KP-53xbr45 and its not turning on. Maybe the standby light will flash 1 time and then off. I was interested, if you have one, in
getting a service manual for my model. I know I need Pando and already have it. If you have any ideas i should check, I would certainly be
thankful.
Thanks for the info

"chort" he ordered a D sub board. This finally came in 3 weeks later and he came out to repair it. He plugged the new board on and the same
nine blink codes. He fumbled around for another hour and a half and said he could not save my TV. He said my dog had urinated on the front
corner of the TV and "chorted" the other board out and they do not replace that board because it will erase the EPROM and all there will be is
nothing. His tools were a flashlight and a screw driver. I asked him to show me where and it was on a outside soild structure of wood. Well I
then got excuses of humidity, moisture etc. Should I replace the diodes or wait and fight it out with Sears. Jim
My TV finally works. What a stupid service man. He had no service manual did not know the blink codes had no idea which board was the G
board. Then he tried to argue with me grabbed the board tray aned tried to yank it out of the TV. He did get a piece of my my mind and a call
to sears one telling him to replace remove the board and have replacement mailed to me. Same guy to put it in 3 weeks later. My son was
home, he was afraid I would show up. My son told him I was sleeping. He tried to put in the board and not plug it in. My son said what about
those plugs. He asked if he could try it and the TV came on. The Tech left and sat in his van for 30 mins. came back in and said he could not
warranty it and it would not last. Due to "humidittttys" my son said that is alright it works now. The tech sat in back and vacumed and
cleaned the back of the TV for 30+ min. and then tried to explain to my son the problem. He finally told him he did not care it was working
fine. He then left .
Well thanks for the web site and board. It really helped. I usally have service contracts and do not have to work on my appliances. This was
the most outragious serviceman. It was humerous, I am sure "chort" will be a topic in our family for years. Sear's service warranties sure
have declined in quality since they were taken over by KMART. I have done some research and Walmart sells online big screen TV's with the
same warranty company as Best Buy and Circuit City only their contraCTS ARE 1/3 of the price for the same item. SORRY SEARS I DO NOT
WISH TO SUFFER ANYMORE.

Larry, I'm afraid I've come to an impasse on my solo repair effort and must again rely upon your knowledge, experience and generous helpful
advice.
I have downloaded and read the service manual, but I cannot find out exactly how to disconnect one of the HV leads from the D board. I have
successfully disconnected the anode cap connection without damage. But, I cannot see how to disconnect the HV lead that goes from the D
board to the C board.
The service manual states that a NEW D board does not include the HV leads and they must be ordered seperately. It is my hope that I can
remove the D board complete with the HV leads and send it to Tri-State-Module for repair.
Can you help with suggestions about disconnecting the HV lead from D to C boards? I can e-mail you the service manual if needed.
Thank you,
Gamb00ler

Hello, I was recently "left" with a kp-53s35. Not bad for putting up with a lame roommate. Anyways... he told me that it didn't work so I
thought I might try and fix it. I'm experiencing 7 blinks from the standby light, and when you look at the screen you can see the green bulb
blinking. Upon taking off the backing, I can see all three bulbs blinking, but the red and blue are dim. Any suggestions on where to start?
JC23 on August 21, 2007 12:23 PM
New to the site here.
Here is my story. I got a Sony KP57WS500 for free the other day. The guy i got it from told me that there was no picture but that there is a
sound. So i took it home looked up some problems on the internet. When i plugged in the TV I had a green screen with lines going across the
screen. And the Stanby light would blink 8 times. The site advised me to adjust some knobs red, blue, green. so i adjusted the green knob
and i got the picture. It looked perfect. Worked for about 10 minutes, and then screen started turning green again and then black. but i still
had sound. Went back and did some more ajustments and same thing would happen. But now it started to smell like something was
burning. You know that smell when something electrical starts to burn. So i don't know if there is a short or what? And now my standby
light blinks 5 times. Would appreciate any help. Thanx guys.
Larry Dillon on August 21, 2007 12:46 PM
Your picture tube is bad. The green one. You probably burned out the voltage supply resistor going to the green tube, and that supplies
voltage to other circuits in the set. Unless you want to find a green tube, and they are no longer available, You might as well trash it. Sorry for
the bad news!

Good question. I'm going to go ahead and say that was your reply... seeing as how i haven't mentioned a burning smell...... yet. :-) larry, any
response to my post? (not being impatient, just curious.) I do have a limited electrical background, with solid state and otherwise. Is there
anything I can do for my set?

This board is so informative. Thank you for saving us so much time as we troubleshoot our Sony KP-57HW40.
We have the service manual and have determined the problem to be the D board. There are two part numbers associated with the D board.
A1300417-A and A-1348038-A.
Our problem now seems to be finding the D board. In reading this thread, I see where someone found a D board for $140.00, which would
be in our budget.
We did find one place that sold it but they were out of stock and, when in stock the part was $310.00
Thank you.

Hello there, I have a Sony kv-34hs420 that goes into standby and displays 6 blinks on initial power-up. The service manual says LOW +B
OCP/OVP (overcurrent/overvoltage)***, +5 line is overloaded. (AY, BY, MY Boards) +5 line is shorted. (AY, BY, MY Brds.) IC504 is faulty.
(AY Board) Where might I find the +5 line?
The set will still turn on, but after sitting overnight, when I do turn the set on, it immediately goes to the standby mode where I then get the
(6 Blinks). I can press the power button again and the set will power up and works fine all day. I can go into the diagnostic screen and reset
the error 6 code to 0 to eliminate the blinking light and I can turn the set on and off without any error codes during the day. It seems like the
only time I get the error code 6 is when the set has been off for an extended period of time (overnight) in my case. Does anyone have any
suggestions as far as what to check or replace next? Your expertise advise is in strongly needed !!! Thanks! Tony

Hi, I have the Sony KDL40V2000 and it has just failed with 4 blinking lights. see from the above what this means, not interested in trying to

thanks

These newer TV sets have different codes then what they are on the older sets. This code means one of the fans in the set is not working. it
could be a control board, a fan itself, or a bad connection on one of the fans plugs. This should be anywhere from 150 to 500 bucks depending
on what is wrong. You should call in an authorized Sony repair depot, as they all have the right parts and there will be no guesswork involved.
Good Luck.

I'm so glad I found this site! After reading a few of the post, I can't wait to rip off the back of my TV. I'm having the same problem as above,
Six Blinks ect. I have a Sony KDF-55WF655 and I took it to a local TV repair shop that gave me a free estimate. They said I have a bad Power
Supply Module and they also recommend that I replace the bulb because it looks a little cloudy, and the cost would be $750 bucks. Wow! I
was just thinking, I see bulbs all day long for $150 so how much could the power supply module be? These guys must be making a killing, I'm
definately in the wrong business. Anyway, knowing whats wrong with the TV is a start. I'm an electrician, I'm sure I can replace a power
supply myself, I just need a part number. Do you happen to have the service manual or know the part numbers that I need for a power supply
module and a bulb? I appreciate any help or advice that you may have to offer. Thanks for your time Larry
Larry Dillon on September 1, 2007 11:24 PM
wayne, on your set the codes have changed. It says there is low B+ and most likely the G1 board, but there is no guaranty on that. It could be a
couple of different things. Yes that is a bit steep for a repair. I happen to have the manual, if you want it. I just got it for another repair I had.
So maybe we can split the cost of it? LOL Where would you like me to send it to?
