FS-1300 Combination Fire/Smoke Dampers Product Bulletin
A
pplications
The FS-1300 Combination Fire/Smoke Damper is
designed to meet design specifications requiring one
damper to provide both a 1-1/2 hour fire rating and a
Class II leakage-rating at 350
°
F.
The FS-1300 Combination Fire/Smoke Damper is
tested according to UL Standard 555 for dampers
intended for use in HVAC duct systems passing
through fire-resistive partitions, and UL Standard 555S
for dampers that are used in HVAC smoke systems.
When multiple assemblies incorporate individual
sections operated by their own closure mechanism or
actuator, each individual section is to be operated at
the maximum specified airflow for the multiple
assembly, with all other sections closed.
The FS-1300 Combination Fire/Smoke Damper must be
installed in accordance with the Standard
NFPA-90A
and
SMACNA Fire Damper Guide
, at the point where a
duct passes through a required fire barrier. The blades,
when closed, shall be within the plane of the fire barrier
(wall or floor).
The standard FS-1300 Combination Fire/Smoke
Damper includes a 24-inch-long, 18-gauge galvanized
steel sleeve, 165°F primary heat sensor, 250°F fusible
link, actuator, and dual linkage.
212°F primary heat sensor and 350°F fusible link are
optional.
Single-section dampers are approved for the following:
Figure 2: Wall Mounting
FS-1300 Combination Fire/Smoke Dampers, up to
32 inches wide x 48 inches high, are rated for
mounting in masonry or metal stud gypsum wallboard
fire-rated walls.
Figure 3: Floor/Ceiling Mounting
FS-1300 Combination Fire/Smoke Leakage-rated
Dampers, up to 32 inches wide x 36 inches high, are
rated for mounting in cement floors or ceilings.
M
aintenance
Johnson Controls FS-1300 Dampers have no
components that require routine scheduled maintenance.
G
uide Specification
Furnish and install Johnson Controls FS-1300
dynamically tested, multi-blade, 1-1/2 hour fire-rated
and Class II leakage-rated dampers, approved under
UL Standard 555 and UL Standard 555S, dated
May 1995 and California State Fire Marshal listed.
Primary
heat sensor shall respond at 165°F or 212°F
to remove power to an electric or pneumatic actuator
and to close the damper blades for smoke protection.
Fusible Link
with high-torque spring releasing at
either 250°F or 350°F shall be used to close the
damper blades and lock them closed for fire protection.
Frames
are to be constructed of formed, 13-gauge
galvanized sheet steel, with concealed linkage in both
side channels to provide positive blade motion and
eliminate noise and friction within the airstream.
Compressible spring stainless steel side seals and
bronze bearings shall be provided.
Blades
are to be constructed with 16-gauge
galvanized steel, and blade width not exceeding
8 inches. Blades shall have 3/8-inch square steel
zinc-plated pins.
