Fireplace Opening

1. Measure width of ﬁ replace opening or glass door frame (see

Measurement "A", Figure 1).

Use work space below to ﬁ gure proper size for ﬁ replace hood.

Subtract 24 inches (width of hood center section)

Subtotal =

Divided by 2

Measurement "B" =

Measurement "B" is the distance from the outside edges of center-

hood section to outside edges of adjustable outer-hood sections

(see Figure 2). When adjustable outer sections are extended to

this measurement, hood will be correct size. The overall width

of the hood will equal the width of the ﬁ replace opening. If you

have glass doors and would like the hood to hang beyond the

edge of the door frame, add 1/2 inch to measurement "B". Make

sure that hood provides room for opening doors.

2. If hood is brass, remove all protective ﬁ lm from brass.

3. Place center-hood section face down on a smooth, soft surface.

4. Measure in from outside ends of adjustable outer-hood sec-

tions. Place a piece of tape on bent-under ﬂ ange of adjustable

outer-hood sections to mark the distance of Measurement "B"

(see Figure 3).

GENERAL INFORMATION

These GA6050 hood kit is designed to be ﬁ tted to the face of the

appliance at the top of the ﬁ rebox opening. In addition to providing

an aesthetically pleasing appearance to your appliance installation,

the hood reduces heat effects to decorative mantels and ﬁ nish

materials located directly above the ﬁ replace and reduces the Mantel

/ Trim clearances (see the Installation and Operation Manual).

READ ALL THE STEPS BEFORE STARTING THE INSTALLATION

THE APPLIANCE MUST BE OFF AND COLD BEFORE BEGINNING.

ALL WARNINGS, PRECAUTIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS IN THE

INSTALLATION AND OPERATION MANUAL PROVIDED WITH THE

APPLIANCE APPLY TO THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

If you encounter any problems, need clariﬁ cation of these instructions

or are not qualiﬁ ed to properly install this kit, contact you local

distributor or dealer.

If any of these parts are missing or damaged, contact your dealer or

SIZING THE FIREPLACE HOOD TO THE FIREPLACE

OPENING OR GLASS DOOR FRAME

Remove the contents of the ﬁ replace hood kit. Check for any missing

or damaged parts. If any parts are missing or damaged, promptly

inform the dealer where you purchased this kit.

The ﬁ replace hood is adjustable from 28 to 48 inches. You must open

hood wide enough to cover the entire ﬁ replace opening. You can

open hood wider if desired. For best appearance, make sure center

section of hood is centered with the ﬁ replace opening.

Follow the following instructions to properly size the ﬁ replace hood.

INSTALLING HOOD TO MASONRY FIREPLACE

Follow the instructions below that best describes your ﬁ replace.

1. Loosen clamps that hold glass door frame to ﬁ replace. Slide the

mounting brackets behind the glass door frame (see Figure 5).

Place brackets near ends of horizontal glass door frame. Note:

If frame is too tall, the bottom of mounting bracket will not slide

under lintel (top) of ﬁ replace. If so, cut mounting bracket off at

point "B" (see Figure 6). Slide mounting bracket into glass door

frame (see Figure 7).

2. Tighten glass door lintel clamps. This will secure the mounting

brackets.

3. Slide the hood over the mounting brackets (see Figure 8).

5. Slide the adjustable outer-hood sections into the center section.

Stop when edge of center-hood section is even with tape (see

Figure 4).

6. Place pieces of tape across adjustable outer-hood sections and

center-hood section to hold in place.

IMPORTANT: You must remove tape before operating your ﬁ replace.

MASONRY WITHOUT GLASS DOORS

1. Tape the mounting brackets near the ends of the ﬁ replace

opening. Make sure to position brackets as shown in Figure 9.

2. Mark screw locations on ﬁ replace lintel through the slots on

bottom of each mounting bracket.

1. Remove mounting brackets and drill a 5/32 inch diameter hole

into ﬁ replace lintel at each marked location.

2. Use the masonry screws provided to fasten brackets to lintel

(see Figure 9).

3. Slide hood over mounting brackets (see Figure 10).

WARNING

Many manufactured ﬁ replaces have louver openings

for ventilation. Do not cover any louver openings with

ﬁ replace hood. Do not mount ﬁ replace hood above

any louver openings. Only mount ﬁ replace hood

below louver openings. Covering louver openings

or mounting ﬁ replace hood above louver openings

will cause the ﬁ replace to overheat and could cause

property damage, personal injury, or death due to ﬁ re.

You may need to alter or discard the mounting brackets to install

the ﬁ replace hood to the manufactured ﬁ replace.

INSTALLING HOOD ABOVE MANUFACTURED

FIREPLACE OPENING

1. Cut mounting bracket off at point "A" (see Figure 6, Page 2).

2. Tape mounting bracket to ﬁ replace housing. Make sure top of

bracket is six inches above ﬁ replace opening (see Figure 11).

3. Mark screw locations through slots in mounting bracket.

4. Remove mounting brackets and drill a 1/8 inch diameter hole

into ﬁ replace housing at each marked location.

5. Use the sheet metal screws provided to fasten brackets to

ﬁ replace housing (see Figure 11).

6. Slide hood over mounting brackets (see Figure 11).

INSTALLING INTO MANUFACTURED FIREPLACE

OPENING

1. Discard the mounting brackets.

2. Place the hood inside the ﬁ replace opening as shown in Figure 12.

3. Hold the hood in place and drill four holes through hood and

into channel on the ﬁ replace opening (see Figure 13). Make sure

holes are evenly spaced and cover most of the hood's length.

4. Use the sheet metal screws provided to fasten the hood to the

ﬁ replace opening.
