2 Introduction
This service bulletin provides instructions for field retrofit of an improved XY transport cable design onto
existing ExpressCard 2000 (EC2000) devices, using the contents of 1000004422 ASSEMBLY,
REPLACEMENT KIT, XY TRANSPORT CABLE CLAMP RETROFIT, EC2000.
3 Procedure
To retrofit the updated cable design on an EC2000 XY transport, follow these steps:
1) Power down the device.
2) Disconnect the device’s power and network cables.
3) Use the keys or remote access to open the device’s top access door.
4) Pull the belt of the XY transport to move the carriage close to the front of the device, near the embosser
module.
5) Find the two cable ties on the X carriage shown in the picture, cut them, and remove them.

6) Find the black cable tie on the X carriage shown in the picture, cut it to free the sleeved cable, and
remove it.
7) Reroute the sleeved cable over the top of the X carriage bracket.

8) Insert cable tie 89800006 through the wires and the X-carriage bracket.
9) Tighten the cable tie around the wires.

10) Find the opening on top of the X carriage bracket.
11) Insert cable tie 89800006 through the opening and below the sleeved cable.

12) Tighten the cable tie around the portion of the sleeved cable that has heat shrink tubing on it.
13) Tighten and trim the two cable ties.
14) Find the J3 and J4 connectors on the X clamp connector board and disconnect both of the connectors

15) Use the No. 2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw under the J4 header and set it aside.
16) Place cable clip 1000004386 around the heat shrink portion of the sleeved harness cable.

17) Bend the cable toward the floor (see arrow direction), then align the screw hole on the cable clamp with
the screw hole on the connector board.
18) Onto 1 ea. screw 46500056, stack 1 ea. flat washer 48190002.
19) Use your fingers to press the screw/washer assembly all the way through the holes.

20) Make sure the two spacers 88600015 are still between the connector board and the motor mounting
bracket.
21) Use your fingers to install 1 ea. lock nut 88500027 on the end of the screw.

22) Use ¼” open-end wrench and the No.1 Philips screwdriver to tighten the screw and lock nut.
23) Reconnect the 2-pin connector disconnected earlier to the J3 header.

24) Reconnect the 4-pin connector disconnected earlier to the J4 header.
25) Push the Carriage away from the flag as shown. Inspect and make sure the sleeve cable is stress free.

26) Make sure the cable ties, clamps, and cable routing look like Figure 3-1 below.

27) Cable design retrofit is complete. Finish any other procedures you are performing inside the device,
such as replacing the XY transport ribbon cable, cleaning, or preventive maintenance, before proceeding.
28) Make sure the device does not have any tools and materials left inside, close and lock the top access
door, reconnect the device’s cables, power on the device, and create a sample card to make sure the
device functions as expected.
