1.2. Introduction to MacroPATH and MacroPATH Basic
MacroPATH and MacroPATH Basic were designed to obtain images of histological samples and to ensure
their complete, safe and reliable handling.
MacroPATH and MacroPATH Basic differ by the fact that MacroPATH Basic does not include the PC Monitor
(see chapter 2.1).
The system has been designed for use in a laboratory and can therefore withstand the harshest laboratory
conditions (indoor use only).
MacroPATH's measurement function is strictly linked to the calibration performed by the
operator and is not controlled by the unit's software. That is why the measurements of
the sample obtained with MacroPATH CANNOT be taken into account for diagnostic
purposes. These values are purely indicative.
Indeed, a ruler must be placed near the sample (see image below) or a gauge must be used to obtain
a diagnostic value for the growth of the tumour, the extent of the lesion, etc.
The system must be calibrated in order to perform measurements with MacroPATH (refer to chapter 3.6.6
for the calibration procedure).

The PC must only be connected to a 3-pole socket (it must have ground connection protections). This note
does not apply to the camera’s power supply.
Connect the system after installation and disconnect the system before cleaning up.
The equipment must be connected to sockets that are clearly visible to the operator.
The unit is not provided with spare fuses. If the system is not working properly, please contact your local
representative or the manufacturer (always provide the serial number of the unit, see label on the back of the
PC unit for MacroPATH whereas for MacroPATH Basic the label is on the back of the camera).
All of the system’s components must be supplied solely by the manufacturer.
In the event of malfunction, please shut down the PC and the camera’s power supply, then switch them on
again. If the system is still not working properly, please contact your local representative or the manufacturer.
In the event of a malfunction:
1) Switch off the PC. Unplug the PC from the main socket.
2) Turn the camera off. Unplug the power supply cable from the main socket.
3) Disconnect all optional parts (foot pedal control, keypad, bar code reader, camera, camera power
supply).
4) Clean and disinfect all parts of the unit as described in chapter 5.1
5) Place all parts of the equipment into the package supplied by the manufacturer (original package).
6) Send the unit to the manufacturer for repair.
1.6. Antivirus
Milestone recommends installing antivirus software. As Milestone does not install antivirus software, the user
can choose the preferred version according to their needs.
Pay attention when setting up the Antivirus so that the data flow on the USB/LAN protocols and accesses to
the Hard Disk are not restricted.
It is very important to switch the MacroPATH camera and PC off before disconnecting the
camera’s USB connection, to avoid damaging the camera’s interface card.
