Thisdocumentisasupplementtothepowerwheelchair’s
documentation.
TheproductitselfdoesnotbearaCEmarkbutispartofaproduct
thatcomplieswithDirective93/42/EECconcerningmedicaldevices.
Itisthereforecoveredbythepowerwheelchair’sCEmarking.See
thepowerwheelchair’sdocumentationformoreinformation.
1.2Intendeduse
TheIDCcanbeusedtoassigncontrolofthepowerwheelchairfrom
thedrivertoanattendant.TheIDCisnotsuitableforthewheelchair
driverhimself.Theattendantwalksbehindortothesideofthe
wheelchair,andcanintuitivelydeterminespeedanddirectionof
movementbypressingahandlewithminimumforce.Adjustments
canalsobemadetothewheelchairusingdedicatedprogramming.
OnceheactivatestheIDC,theattendanttakesovercomplete
responsibilityforthewheelchairanditsdriver.TheIDCcanonlybe
usedinconnectionwiththemasterremoteonthewheelchair,andis
restrictedtoACS/ACS2electronics.
1.3Generalinformation
CantheIDCbeusedforwheelchairswithdirect
steering?
TheIDCcanbeusedirrespectiveofwhetherthewheelchairhas
directorindirectsteering.
Whichelectronicsystemsistheattendantcontrol
compatiblewith?
TheIDCisonlycompatiblewithwheelchairswhichusethe
ACS/ACS2systemsincespecialconnectionsneedtobeavailable.The
IDCattendantcontrolonlyfunctionsinconnectionwithamaster
remote.ContactyourInvacare®dealerformoreinformation.
SwitchingbetweenIDCandmasterremote
TheIDCisswitchedonandoffusingthemasterremoteonthe
wheelchair.Thewheelchairdrivercannotswitchbacktohisown
modebyhimselfusingthemasterremote.Thiscanonlybedone
bytheattendantusingtheIDC.

TheIDCisfittedtothewheelchairusingabracketonthepush
handle.Therearetwovariations,oneisadjustableandoneisfixed
(standard).Thebracketclampisfixedwithfourbolts(1).
1.Fixthebracketontothewheelchairpushhandleasshownin
thefigureabove.
2.Positionbolts(1).Usenutsfortheadjustablebracket.
3.Tightenthebolts,preventnutsfromturningifnecessary.

Riskofunintendedmovement
Iftheclampingleverisfittedtootightlyorreplacedby
hardwarenotapprovedbyInvacare,theIDCmightget
adrivesignalandcouldstartrunningbyitselfwhenin
attendantprofile.
Tightentheclampingleverhand-tightonly(max.6
Nm).
OnlyusetheclampingleverprovidedbyInvacarefor
fixingtheIDC.
Testthemobilitydevicebeforeuse.

3.2Connectingtheattendantcontroltothe
electronics
Theintuitiveattendantcontroltakesovercontrolofthe
wheelchairandmayonlybeusedbyanattendant.Itis
imperativethatthewheelchairdriverhimselfisnotallowed
tooperatetheattendantcontrol.
FittingshouldonlybecarriedoutbyanInvacare®approved
dealer.Whenfitting,pleaseensurethatthebuscableis
routedandfixedcorrectlysothatdamagetothebuscable
isavoided.
1.Switchthewheelchairelectronicsoffatthemasterremote.
2.ConnectoneendofthebuscabletotheIDC,theotherendtoa
freebussocketonthewheelchair.
Incasethereisnosparebussocketonthewheelchair’s
controlsystem,asplitter/4–waybussocketcanbeordered
fromyourInvacare®dealer.
3.Theattendantcontrolisnowconnectedtothedrive.
3.3Removingtheattendantcontrolfromthe
wheelchair
1.Switchthewheelchairoff,anddismantletheindividualpartsin
accordancewiththeinstructionsinthewheelchair’susermanual.
2.Onlyeverpullthecontrolunitplugoutofitssocketbyholding
thehousing,notthecable!
3.
Loosentheclampinglever(1)(rotatesseveraltimes!)andpull
thecontrolunitoutofthewheelchairbracket.

4.1Startinguptheattendantcontrol
1.Cyclepoweronthemasterremote.Waituntilthestart-up
routineiscompleted.Thisisaregularprocedurewhenthe
wheelchairispoweredon.
2.The"ON/OFF"and"Wheelchairdriverincontrol"diodesonthe
attendantcontroldisplay(1)willilluminate.
3.Presstheswitchoverbutton(2)ontheattendantcontrol.This
activatestheattendantcontrol,andthefollowingoperating
displaysareshown:
Inthewheelchairdriver'sremotedisplay:batterysymbol
(accumulatorcapacitydisplay)andunderthistheletter“A”
=Attendant.
Intheattendantcontroldisplay(1):the"Attendantin
control"diodeontherightilluminates.
Seethewheelchair’susermanualformoreinformation
aboutthebatterychargingstatusdisplay.
4.2Adjustingthespeed
Themaximumspeedofthewheelchaircanbesetbytheuserto
matchhispersonalrequirementsandthesurroundingconditions.
Thecurrentmaximumspeedsetisdisplayedonthewheelchairspeed
displayandcanalsobepresetthere.Youcancarryoutfurtherfine
adjustmentstothemaximumspeedontheIDCusingthespeed
potentiometer(1).Inaddition,thespeedincreasesthemorethe
drivebuttonispressed.
4.3ControllingthewheelchairwiththeIDC
1.Switchonwheelchairviathemasterremote.Thedisplaysonthe
remoteilluminate.Presetthespeedifnecessary.
2.UsetheswitchoverbuttonontheIDCtoselectattendant
control.Thewheelchairisreadytodrive.

4.Pressthedrivebuttontostartthewheelchairmoving.
5.Adjustthemaximumspeedtomatchyourwalkingpace.
Youcansetwhetherthewheelchairshouldtravelforwardsor
backwardsbypressingtheswitchoverbuttonforforwardsorreverse
gear(1).Ifreversegearhasbeenselected,thearrow(2)illuminates.
4.3.1Howtosteerthewheelchair
Theelectronicsystemcontainedinthehandle(1)registersthe
movementmadebytheattendant'shand.Slightpressureonthe
handletotheleftorrightistranslatedintoadrivecommandfor
thedrivewheelssothatbendscanbetravelledwithouttheneed
formuchforce.
Whenreversing,makesureyouknowwhetherthe
wheelchairhasdirectorindirectsteeringsothatyouknow
inwhichdirectionyouhavetosteer,andtheninwhich
directionthewheelchairwillactuallytravel.Youshould
initiallygetusedtotheIDCattendantcontrolinstagesso
thatnohazardsareposedforthewheelchairdriveror
others.
4.3.2Howthewheelchairreactstohandle
movements
Steeringtakesplacebypressingthehandletothesides.Whetheryou
aretravellingforwardsorbackwards,youmusttouchtheleft-hand
sideofthehandletomakethewheelchairturntotheleft.Ifyou
touchtheright-handsideofthehandle,thewheelchairwillturnto
theright.

Traveldirection
Themorethebuttonispressed,thefasterthewheelchairwilldrive.
Tobrakequickly,simplyletgoofthehandle.Thewheelchair
brakes.Ifyoupressthedrivebuttonwithfullforce,the
wheelchairalsocarriesoutan"EmergencyStop".
4.4Informationonthe"EmergencyStop"
function
Ifthewheelchairneedstobestoppedimmediatelyduetoahazard
situation,pushthedrivebutton(1)firmlyasfaraspossible.This
causesanimmediateforceddriveswitch-off.Onceyourelease
thedrivebutton(1)youcanstarttodrivethewheelchairagain
immediately.
