TREMCO SOLARGARD RUST PRIMER is a water-based, acrylic metal primer formulated to provide a tough, flexible film for the
protection of steel against atmospheric corrosion. SOLARGARD RUST PRIMER will resist the eects of moisture and prevent
the corrosion of steel substrates in normal commercial environments when used in conjunction with SOLARGARD 6083 or
SOLARGARD 2083.
DIRECTIONS
APPLICATION: Surface must be sound, clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, mold, algae, heavy rust, excess chalk, and other foreign
matter which could prevent proper adhesion. This is best accomplished using a high pressure power wash of at least 2,000 psi
and/or by hand chipping, scraping, wire brushing, power tooling, grinding, or brushing. When using power tools be sure to
wear appropriate protective gear as recommended by the manufacturer of the tool to be used. Apply only at temperatures
above 50ºF and rising with less than 90% humidity. SOLARGARD RUST PRIMER can be applied by brush, roller or spray
application. Primer is milky white in the container and may have a slight foam appearance. Once applied, it will be slightly
cloudy, but transparent.
DRY TIMES AND TOPCAOAT: SOLARGARD RUST PRIMER dries in 4 hours and must be top-coated with one of Tremco’s acrylic,
elastomeric roof coatings within 72 hours. If SOLARGARD RUST PRIMER has been applied longer than 72 hours prior to
application of a roof coating, SOLARGARD RUST PRIMER is to be reapplied. All surfaces, which have been primed, must be
clean and free of dirt, grease, oil and other foreign matter, which could prevent proper adhesion of the top coat.
Spray Equipment Recommendations: Graco King 45:1, Graco Bulldog 30:1 or gas powered equivalents. Graco GH733,
HydraMax 350 or GMax 7900 or other manufacturers' equivalents. Hose/Pressure: 50 –300 length (depending on spray rig
pressure). When using hoses longer than 100 use the next larger hose ID every 50. Every 50 of hose will reduce the spray
pressure of the rig by 10% at the gun tip. i.e. 300 hose – 3 /4” (50/100) to 5 /8” (50/100) to 1 /2” (50/100 ) to 3 /8” (50 ) Good
results are generally obtained @ 1500–2500 psi at spray tip. Gun: Graco Contractor Gun, Graco Contractor FTx gun, Graco Silver
Plus or equivalent. (Tip extrusions or pole guns can be used.)
COVERAGE: Minimum recommended coverage is 100 to 200 sq. ft. per gallon (8 - 16 mils wet).
CLEAN UP: Clean wet coating with soap and water. Dry coating may be removed with mineral spirits. Use care when handling.
STORAGE AND DISPOSAL: Keep container tightly closed. Store in a well-ventilated place. Dispose of contents in accordance
with local regulations. KEEP FROM FREEZING. Store in a heated area.
LIMITATIONS: Not intended for use in areas subject to vehicular trac or where water continuously ponds. Do not apply when
rain is imminent. Not recommended for use over Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) as a coating primer. Not intended for use over
Kynar or other PVDF resin coatings.
Precautions: May cause eye, nose, throat and skin irritation. Use only with adequate ventilation. Close container after each
