updating your Genie to the latest release. It also outlines some of the new features and previous
bug fixes.
This release has both known and potentially unknown bugs. Although it should be fully functional

1. Battery life improvements in timelapse mode. +20% with one second intervals, more with
larger intervals.
2. Presets disappearing.
3. Imperial measurements not displaying correctly in presets window.
4. Motor speed limits inaccurate. Users able to set invalid motor speeds.
5. Autostart countdown not accurate.
6. Autostart countdown not displaying seconds.
7. Video mode going straight to completed in certain scenarios.
8. Battery needing more than one charge to reach a full charge.
9. Battery level indicator alternates between two levels.
10. Factory reset date now defaults to 15/SEP/2014 instead of 01/JAN/2000.
11. LANC/LINK/RED Camera interface no longer require camera model.
12. Mininum panning distance limitiations per shot not set. User able to set invalid panning
speeds which cause the Genie to not move at all.
13. Video mode not accurate when capture time is over 10 minutes.
14. Record time, Play time, Interval, Movement, Ease In/Out, HDR changing to arbitrarily large
values.
New Features.
1. “Bounce back” mode enabled in autostart menu. Allows the same movement to be repeated
back and forward for a predefined number of “Repeats”. This feature can be used in video
mode to shoot interviews or other video shots without the need for a second camera operator.
In time-lapse mode this feature is useful to continue your time-lapse recording in the reverse
direction meaning you’ll never miss that crucial shot.
2. Genie will now start and stop recording on LANC compatible cameras.
Installing new firmware.
Complete the following steps to install the beta release v2.4 onto the Genie.
1. Locate and Download the firmware release .zip folder onto your computer from the
Resources/downlaods page at www.syrp.co.nz/support. Unzip the folder to reveal the .bin
file v2.4.
2. Take a blank FAT32 formatted USB key and load the .bin file onto the USB stick*.
3. Prepare the Genie for upload by ensuring the unit is powered down**.
4. Insert the USB key into the USB port on the side of the Genie.
5. While holding down the back button press and hold the OK button simultaneously until the
screen starts flashing black and white which indicates the unit is reading the .bin file on the
USB key ***.
6. After approx 10 secs the Syrp logo should appear and your Genie will load as normal
entering the Setup screen. Remove the USB key.
7. Set the time, date, units and frames per second according to your region, navigate to ‘Go!’
and press OK
8. Scroll down to settings and hit OK, then scroll to ‘About’ and check that current firmware
reads v2.4
9. Go filming!
* Do not use hard drives or other external USB devices to load the firmware. Some USB keys draw
too much power to correctly function. Do not load the .zip file onto the USB key. You must unzip
the folder and load only the .bin file with nothing else on the USB key.
USB3.0 Keys, or any key over 16GB will not work.
** Please note that uploading new firmware will wipe all existing presets and settings on the
Genie. If you wish to keep settings please make a note of them and reinstall after update.
*** If the red indicator light around the OK button stays solid red then the firmware has not
correctly installed. Power off the device and try again. Consider trying a different USB key.
Tested USB keys include: Sandisk Cruzer Fit, Sandisk Cruzer Blade, Generic 2GB
