INTRODUCTION TO THE TARPAULIN
This manually-operated tarpaulin with SIMPLE traction, is mainly intended for small sized vehicles used to
transport waste materials especially in urban areas. It is also specifically designed to fulfil both the need to cover
the container and to provide quick access at the same time, for loading and unloading.
1. SIMPLE It is built with a housing that encloses the entire tarpaulin when it is NOT IN USE.
2. FUNCTIONAL It is extremely easy to use. Just PULL the rope (and the tarpaulin) and hook
them to the rear part of the vehicle.
3. LIGHTWEIGHT The SMALL size and ESSENTIAL DESIGN of the structure ensure
SIGNIFICANTLY LESS WEIGHT.
4. VERSATILE This extremely SIMPLE and COMPACT system is adaptable to any vehicle
specifically used to transport solid urban waste.
5. ESSENTIAL Nothing else can be removed: ANYTHING NOT STRICTLY ESSENTIAL HAS
ALREADY BEEN ELIMINATED.
This exclusively manually-operated tarpaulin, basically consists of:
1. A shaped HOUSING made with sheet metal measuring mm. 250 x 250 and MAX 2490 mm wide. It
contains the tube to roll up the whole tarpaulin.
2. A TARPAULIN made with POLYURETHANE OR PVC
Although it has an essential design, the system ensures superior efficiency and unmatched reliability.
The simplicity of the system and the compact design of the TARPAULIN HOUSING make it easy to
install on almost any container currently on the market, without having to make any excessive
changes.

LIFTING AND HANDLING THE TARPAULIN
WARNING!
The tarpaulin cannot be lifted and moved by one person alone.
It must be handled with suitable lifting and transport means by making sure it is stable
when it is moved.
If it is moved with a forklift truck make sure the gap between the forks is suitable
to ensure the load is stable and the vehicle must be driven by an operator authorised
to use it.
During the assembly stage, the tarpaulin must be supported by a suitable lifting device until it is
steadily anchored onto the container.

Residual risk
As with any machine, and for this tarpaulin, it is impossible to eliminate at the design stage all the risks associated
with correct use and incorrect use. As a result, it is also impossible for the manufacturer to provide all the safety
systems.
However, the most important factor that guarantees safety is the correct use of the machine by the operators
working on the machine at different times.
Perfect knowledge of accident-prevention standards, methodical use of personal protective devices and a good amount of
common sense help keep the machine in good condition and prevent accidents or hazardous situations.
However, conditions referred to as “RESIDUAL RISK” may occur due to:
Failure to comply with the instructions reported in this manual, which means the manufacturer is relieved from
any responsibility.
Imponderable factors for which the manufacturer is relieved from any responsibility.
Some of the main imponderable risk factors:
Natural disasters for which one cannot provide for suitable evacuation routes such as EARTHQUAKES,
FLOODS, WHIRLWINDS, HURRICANES, STRONG WIND, ETC.
Sudden fires.
Lightning.
Toxic gas leaks.
Radiation leaks from nuclear areas.
Fall of bodies from outer space, such as satellites falling from orbit, meteorites, missiles, etc.
Loose war material.
Injury to persons, animals or damage to property or the environment caused by persons responsible for
stealing the machine.
Injury to persons, animals or damage to property or the environment caused by tampering of the tarpaulin by
rivals in an uprising or war.

TARPAULIN APPLICATION LIMITATIONS
There are VERY FEW and, in any case, essentially related to:
1.
Its maximum LENGTH
makes it suitable for containers between 5 m and 7 m.
2. The maximum height of the top edge of the container must not exceed a height of 2/2.5 m. to facilitate
tarpaulin traction and control operations during handling. (a higher container causes serious problems for
extraction and subsequent return of the tarpaulin in the housing).
3.
THE MAX DIFFERENCE IN HEIGHT
between the side edges and the cab-shield MUST NOT BE
GREATER than 150 mm to allow the tarpaulin to be rolled up safely inside the housing.
4.
The HEIGHT
of the
side
FLAPS
MAY VARY FROM 0 mm. UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 350 mm.
ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE (part dedicated to installers)
Preparing the container
1. Check that the upper and lateral edges of the container sides are straight enough in order for the
TRACTION ROD (extruded aluminium rod located at the end of the tarpaulin) to slide without friction
along the entire length of the container.
2. Level and/or repair any uneven areas and/or crushed or broken areas on the upper edges of the sides
(ATTENTION: SHARP IMPERFECTIONS MAY CUT THE TARPAULIN!)
3. Any sharp angle the tarpaulin might come into contact with while sliding must be rounded (see detail A.), as
it might block and/or damage the tarpaulin
4. The tarpaulin should slide without friction, easily
overcoming the hinge on the rear side (detail A).
If the hinge is raised above the upper track, place a "small
slipping ramp" (detail B) which allows the TRACTION ROD to
easily overcome the difference in height created by the hinge.
The small ramp can easily be created with a triangular piece
of sheet metal (detail B) or an iron rod welded between the
hinge and the upper profile of the side on which the tarpaulin
will slide (detail C).

DET D
If the height of the rear sidewall post or the presence of elements
particularly difficult to overcome prevent the TRACTION ROD from
overcoming them easily, a possible solution would be to FIRST
STOP the TRACTION ROD and then close with the tarpaulin TAIL
only (detail D).
Positioning and attaching the front tarpaulin housing
Position and secure the tarpaulin housing on the front portion of the container.
There are two ways of FIXING the housing of the TELL-ONE tarpaulin to the container
It can be fixed by welding it to the container (with the steel or aluminium strip bolted on the bottom of the
housing) or outside/above the front side (Fig. 1) or inside the container itself (Fig. 2).
Fig 1 Fig 2
The same clamping strip can be welded both from the outside and from the inside of the container (as shown in
Fig 3 and 4).

If it is not possible to carry out the welding from outside the housing (and therefore it must be carried out from
the INSIDE) it is MANDATORY TO REMOVE THE TARPAULIN before welding the housing because the
welding sparks may DAMAGE IT PERMANENTLY.
Once the HOUSING is fixed to the container, fix the REAR HOOKS to fasten the TRACTION ROD to
the tarpaulin.
To carry out this operation it is MANDATORY TO COMPLETELY UNROLL THE TARPAULIN and, by
TENSIONING it manually, position and temporarily "fix" the two shaped HOOKS making them touch the
traction rod (Fig 5).
Fig 5
Now TRY to UNHOOK the tarpaulin from the anchoring and make it roll up to check that it slides smoothly.
If the sliding is OK proceed with PERMANENTLY FIXING the locking hooks (Fig 6).

The two hooks (front and rear) are used to pick up the ropes when the tarpaulin is completely rolled up and
unrolled on the container respectively.
INSTRUCTION!
The correct positioning of the REAR hook is very important!
The traction rope must descend and wrap around the hook as straight and centred as
possible with respect to the two lateral sides of the vehicle.
If this is not the case, the tarpaulin may not wrap along the axes of rotation or may not wrap
completely.
The ELASTIC END of the rope will keep it stretched and prevent it from unrolling accidentally.
Positioning of the rear and side anchor hooks of the tarpaulin
In order to position the tarpaulin SIDE ANCHOR HOOKS properly, proceed according to the following scheme
(Fig 8):
Fig 8
1) Completely unroll the tarpaulin until the
sheet tensioning rod is inserted in the
relevant rear anchor hooks.
2) Turn the two side FLAPS upside down so
that the SIDE ANCHOR ROPES of the
tarpaulin descend on the side.
3) Starting from the front part of the tarpaulin,
slide the part of the rope coming out from
the side eyelets of the sheet and make a
V whose lower end can be reached
easily from the ground and is slightly
forward of the first hole from which the
rope comes out.
4) Proceed with fixing the other two hooks which must be
positioned exactly in the centre between one eyelet and the
other from which the rope comes out.
5) The last hook will be fixed on the rear sidewall post at the end of the container.
6) On the rear part, two or more hooks for the anchoring of the rear ropes will be fixed.
INSTRUCTION!
PAY THE UTMOST ATTENTION: THE POSITIONING OF THE HOOKS MUST BE PERFORMED
IN A WORKMANLIKE MANNER.
Roll up spring adjustment and commissioning
INSTRUCTION!
ATTENTION: Tensioning must always be EXCLUSIVELY adjusted (increased or decreased) when
the tarpaulin is completely out of the housing. If the tensioning is increased when the tarpaulin is rolled
up in the housing the spring will get damaged and will become UNUSABLE.
1)
Therefore, proceed withSUBSEQUENT TESTS“ of the ADJUSTMENTS of the
tarpaulin roll up
spring.
2) The roll up TENSION adjustment of the SPRING inserted in the tarpaulin rolling up tube can
be carried out VERY EASILY by using a STRAIGHT wrench on the hex bolt coming out from
the “BOX“ fixed on the RIGHT side of the housing.

3) ATTENTION: the tensioning of the spring must ONLY BE SUFFICIENT to completely wrap the
tarpaulin inside the housing. It must not be excessive because, if the spring is EXCESSIVELY
TENSIONED, the tarpaulin cannot be unrolled completely.
INSTRUCTION!
Whenever the tensioning of the spring is adjusted, it is mandatory to test the smoothness
and the proper rolling up of the tarpaulin in the housing.
4) If the spring is EXCESSIVELY TENSIONED it will be necessary to LOOSEN IT BY
INSERTING a flat-bladed screwdriver IN THE SLOT on the lower side of the BOX“ located
on one of the two sides of the HOUSING (at one of the ends of the tarpaulin rolling up tube)
and CAREFULLY triggering the BLOCKING "TRIGGER" of the rolling up tube.
5)
After loosening the spring CHECK the correct wrapping of the tarpaulin again and, if needed,
gradually increase the tensioning of the spring as described in point 2.

HOW TO USE THE TARPAULIN (part devoted to the user)
INSTRUCTION!
The presence of prohibition and instruction signs does not relieve the operator from
reading this manual in its entirety and complying with the instructions provided by the
tarpaulin's installer.
PROHIBITION!
It is forbidden to release the sheet during the use of the tarpaulin.
The manufacturer declines any responsibility!
INSTRUCTION!
Always guide the movement of the tarpaulin with the pulling rope.
- Application of instruction and prohibition sign on the
machine.
Unrolling
The use of the tarpaulin is very easy, the CONTAINER COVERING operations, starting with the
container UNCOVERED are as follows:
1. Smoothly pull the tarpaulin traction rope (the thick one) making sure that the tube with the
two "flaps" on its end does not fall inside the container.
2. Make the aforementioned tube overcome the rear edge of the container and attach it to the
relevant rear tarpaulin stopping HOOKS.
3. By using the suitable harpoon rod (or a hand if the height of the container allows it) Pull Out
The Side Ropes inserted in the tarpaulin eyelets.

4. By using the harpoon rod, turn over the two
tarpaulin side FLAPS downwards and, by
sliding the rope inserted INSIDE-OUTSIDE“ into
the eyelets, make the rope pass through the
“COBRA HOOKS fixed on the sides of the
container.
Once the side ROPESand the rear ELASTIC BANDS have been fixed
fix all the ropes by wrapping them and
forming a
on the relevant ROPE HOLDING bracket
PROHIBITION!
It is forbidden to travel when the sheet is not clamped to the container with all hooks
present.
You could hook onto someone or any protrusions present and trigger a seriously
hazardous situation.
The manufacturer declines any responsibility!
- Application of a prohibition sign on the machine.
Rolling up
INSTRUCTION!
Before unrolling the product, make sure there is no one in the container.
Container UNCOVERING operations ARE THE SAME but carried out in REVERSE ORDER
compared to the sequence described above.
A very important step for TARPAULIN ROLLING UP operations (container uncovering) is to TURN
OVER THE SIDE FLAPS ABOVE THE TARPAULIN.
Patiently and carefully PULL THE TWO tarpaulin side anchor ROPES WITH GRADUAL
MOVEMENTS (the thin ones) and using the harpoon rod, or even your hands, TURN OVER THE
SIDE FLAPS ABOVE THE TARPAULIN.
Having done this, UNHOOK the REAR TUBE, tighten it from the HOOKS on the side and, by
HOLDING the pulling rope tightly GUIDE the movement of the tarpaulin while rolling up.
WARNING!
It is prohibited to release the tarpaulin during rolling up operations.

INSTRUCTION!
During rolling up, should the tarpaulin jam on the material in the container, try to lift it to
remove or overcome the obstacle with a rod WITHOUT LETTING THE TARPAULIN ROLL
UP BY ITSELF.
- Application of a prohibition sign on the machine.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If the tarpaulin does not fully roll up around the housing, FIRST try and unroll a few metres of it again
and roll it up again.
If after this step it does not roll up, check whether:
I. The side FLAPS are properly STRETCHED on the upper tarpaulin and are not TANGLED or
STUCK on some protruding part of the container.
II. The REAR TUBE used to tension the tarpaulin is STUCK on some protruding part of the
container.
III. Any SIDE ROPES are not HOOKED somewhere.
IV. The tarpaulin is DIRTY and if the dirt caused the tarpaulin to STICK to the sides of the
container or on itself, thereby preventing it from being rolled up correctly.
V. The rolling up SPRING has lost its retraction force or is broken.
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY THE OWNER
INSTRUCTION!
USE ORIGINAL CRAMARO TS SPARE PARTS.
Visual checks
EXECUTION TIMETABLE
Before use
Check the state of the side anchor ropes of the tarpaulin, they must NOT be frayed or torn.
If the rope is torn replace it with one of the same type (in POLYESTER Ø 5 mm,
sliding).
Verify the side anchor hooks of the ropes to the container are intact.
Make sure the rear hooks holding the tarpaulin TENSIONING ROD are intact.
Make sure the metalwork (housing) is intact.
Make sure the tarpaulin is intact.
Verify all rivets are present on the "cobra" hooks.

Replace the hooks at the first signs of deterioration, as tarpaulin clamping while driving is
VERY IMPORTANT.
Cleaning
EXECUTION TIMETABLE
- IMMEDIATELY IF THE TARPAULIN IS VERY DIRTY
- EVERY THREE MONTHS FOR NORMAL USE
Periodically check and clean the tarpaulin (in relation to the materials carried more often). If
the tarpaulin is particularly dirty (especially if soiled with sticky substances), it tends to get
stuck and it is difficult to roll it up inside the housing.
Lubrication of mechanisms
(NOT RECOMMENDED DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE)
EXECUTION TIMETABLE
- EVERY YEAR, TO BE DONE BY THE INSTALLER OR IN THE EVENT OF A MALFUNCTION
Lubricating the mechanisms is a delicate task that can be dangerous.
Ask the installer or an authorised CRAMARO TS workshop to perform lubrication when the tarpaulin
is taken for extraordinary maintenance or other work.
General tightening of nuts and bolts
EXECUTION TIMETABLE
- Initially AFTER 25/30 operating cycles.
- Subsequently, EVERY THREE MONTHS.
The nuts and bolts must be tightened by following these torques:
Nominal diameter(mm)
Torque Mt (Nxm)
-
Class 8.8
Torque Mt (Nxm)
-
Class 10.9
M 6 10.5 14.6
M 8 25 35
M 10 50 70
M 12 85 120
