3 INTRODUCTION
3.1 General
Pipe welding tools A21 PRB 3--10 and PRB 9--20 are designed for butt welding of
pipes with an external diameter of 3--20 mm. These tools are designed for
connection to ESAB TIG welding equipment (Protig 315 or Mechtig 315). PRB 3--10
and PRB 9--20 are used without filler wire.
The pipe welding tool consists of:
S Welding grips. The pipe welding tool uses a gripping action that allows quick and
accurate positioning of the tool on the pipe. The two jaws lock the pipe welding
tool onto the pipe when the locking lever is pressed towards the handle. This
automatically centres the pipe welding tool around the pipe. During welding the
only parts that rotate are the open gearring and attached components.
S Drive unit. Drives the gear ring round during welding. It consists of a DC motor.
To ensure maximum accuracy during welding it is controlled by a tachometer.
S Side grips. Permit butt welding of two pipes without the need for tacking prior to
welding. Side grips are easily fitted and removed to adapt the tool to suit the
chosen application.

4 INSTALLATION
4.1 General
Pätevän henkilön tulee suorittaa asennus.
WARNING!
Rotating parts can cause injury, take great care.
S Welding power sour ce Protig 315, see operating manual 0443 419 xxx.
S Welding power sour ce M echtig 315, see oper ating m anual 0443 420 xxx.
4.2 Connections
S Connect the power/gas cable to the tool by first pressing it in place then
tightening the locking screw.
Ceramic shoes are used to accommodate different sizes of pipe (3--20 mm) in
the pipe welding tool. T hese also insulate the current carrying tool from the pipe
to be welded. Six shoes are needed for each pipe if side grips are used, if not,
three. The shoes are mounted on guide pins which come in two different lengths.
To ensure a perfect gas shield with various sizes of pipe the gas shroud comes
in four different lengths. See WEAR COMPONENTS on page 47.

S Fit the tool around the pipe.
S Check that the two half rings are in the correct position before opening the pipe
welding tool, i.e. that the marks on the half r ings and the grips are lined up.
NOTE!
The tool may be damaged if these instructions are not followed.
5OPERATION
5.1 General
Tämän laitteen käsittelyä koskevat yleiset varomääräykset ovat sivu lla 31. Lu e
ne ennen kuin alat käyttää laitetta.
Make sure the tool is lubricated and has been assembled correctly.
NOTE!
Make sure too l is firmly
clamped in position before
starting to weld.
asa4b001
5.2 Replacing the shoes
S Check that the shoe diameter and guide pin are suitable for the chosen pipe
diameter. See WEAR COMPONENTS on page 47.
S Check that the shoes are not damaged.
S Check that the rubber spring is not deformed.
5.3 Centering the side grips
S Check that the shoes and rubber spring are not damaged, otherwise the pipe
may not be correctly centred in the pipe welding tool.
S Attach the side grips to the welding grips using the 3 bolts.
S Place a straight length of pipe in the welding grips.
S Position the side grips on the pipe and tighten the bolts.
S Make sure the grips are clamped before starting to turn the pipe, otherwise the
tool may be damaged.
6 MAINTENANCE
6.1 General
HUOM!
Kaikki tavarantoimittajan antamat takuut lakkaavat, jos asiakas itse tekee vikojen
korjaamiseksi muutoksia laitteeseen takuuajan aikana.

S Lubricate all sliding surfaces every four operating hours with BARRIERTA L55/2.
If welding for short periods of time or welding at low ambient temperatures
BARRIERTA I MI Fluid can be used instead. This may also be used to provide
additional lubrication for the sliding surfaces of the grips if they become dry.
Apply lubricant to the grease points on the fixed jaw of the grips and to the gap
on the opposite jaw while the ring is turning, see DIMENSION DRAWING on
pages 111 and 112. Lubricant should also be applied to the guide pin hole in the
ceramic shoe to permit smooth to and fro movement of the spring--loaded shoe.
S Lubricate other components as required.
7 ORDERING OF SPARE PARTS
A21 PRB 3--10 / 9--20 is designed and tested in accordance with the EN 60
292 (IEC 292) international standard.
It is the obligation of the service unit which has carried out the service or re-
pair work to make sure that the product still conforms to the said standard.
