2Requirements
The CommuwinII Ethernet connectivity package was developed for the Windows operating
systems WIN NT and WIN 2000. It operates on any Intel hardware platform that is mentioned in
the WIN NT and WIN 2000 “Hardware compatibility list”.
Note!
In all cases the hardware used must be supported by the WIN NT and WIN 2000 Hardware
compatibility list that can be found in the following Internet site:
http://www.microsoft.com
2.1 Hardware
Check that your computer fulfils the following requirements:
Pentium III 200 MHz

Connectivity for additional Ethernet participants within your local area network (connectors
and spare Ethernet IP addresses)
Note!
If there is a PROFIboard or PROFIcard installed, please remove it.
2.2 Software

3Installation of the Package
The prerequisites to the installation and configuration process are:
you have installed and configured network access to your local area Ethernet TCP/IP network
(please contact your administrator),
you have logged in to your operating system with administration rights,
you have asked your network administrator for a list of free Ethernet addresses.
Furthermore, with respect to ease of installation, it is recommended that the installation sequence
presented here is strictly followed.
3.1 PROFIBUS - Ethernet gateway
Start with the installation and connection of one PROFIBUS - Ethernet gateway. Stay with the
default address of this gateway (refer to the installation manual). The installation and configuration
process for all the gateways required is described in detail in section 3.5.
Note!
There may be a collision with another device already connected to your Ethernet. In this
case you must temporarily remove or reconfigure the device that has the same IP address as
the PROFIbus/Ethernet gateway. After you have configured all PROFIBUS/Ethernet gateways
to their dedicated IP addresses (refer to 3.5) you can reinstall or reconfigure the offending
device with its previous IP address.
3.2 Commuwin II
Commuwin II Version 2.07-3 or higher must be installed on your computer. If you already have a
version running:
Check that it is version V2.07-3 or higher
If this is not the case, purchase an update for your Commuwin II and install it.
3.2.1 Installation of Commuwin II
Insert the Commuwin II CD in your CD-ROM drive and follow the instructions in the installation
manual.
3.3 PROFIbus device driver
There are three different cases you may find at your site. Start with one of cases 3.3.1 to 3.3.3 and
then continue with 3.3.4.
3.3.1 Commuwin II, version V2.07-2 or lower, is already installed
When your package does not include full or update version of Commuwin II, please purchase a
Commuwin II update to V2.07-3, perform step 3.2.1 and then install the PROFIbus device driver
from the CommuWin II CD-ROM according to your operating system (WIN NT or WIN2000). Let
the setup reboot your computer and proceed with step 3.3.4.
Note!
The PROFIBUS device drivers are to be found under \Drivers on the Commuwin II CD ROM.

3.3.2 Commuwin II, version V2.07-3, is already installed
In this case there is no need to install Commuwin II or PROFIbus device driver. You only have to
reconfigure the PROFIbus device driver. Please invoke the “PROFIbus Control Panel” from the
folder “Settings” and proceed with step 3.3.4.
3.3.3 Commuwin II is not installed at all
Check that your package includes full version of Commuwin II, if not, purchase one:
Install Commuwin II as described in step 3.2.1.
Install the PROFIbus device driver from the Commuwin II CD-ROM according to your
operating system (WIN NT or WIN2000).
Let the setup reboot your computer and proceed with step 3.3.4.
Note!
The PROFIBUS device drivers are to be found under \Drivers on the Commuwin II CD ROM.
3.3.4 Configuring the PROFIbus device driver
If you came from step 3.3.1 or step 3.3.3:
The “PROFIbus Control Panel” is automatically invoked after the restart of your computer.
Select “PROFIgate” in the left hand window and press the button “Add”.
Follow the wizard, acknowledge for “node0" and enter the default IP address of the Ethernet/
PROFIbus gateway (refer to the installation manual of the Ethernet - PROFIbus gateway).
Press the button ”Apply". The result should be a green check mark for “node0" under
”PROFIgate".
Press the button OK
If you came from step 3.3.2:
Invoke the “PROFIbus Control Panel” manually.
Please remove any node under “PROFIboard” or “PROFIcard” in the left hand window by
selecting the node and pressing the button “Remove”.
Now select “PROFIgate” in the left hand window and press the button “Add”.
Press the button OK.

3.4 Commuwin II Ethernet configuration software
If you have the AUTORUN-option for CD-ROM enabled, the installation of the CommuWin II
Ethernet configuration software will start automatically when inserting the CD-ROM. Otherwise run
setup or install on the CD-ROM.
Insert the "Ethernet Connectivity for Commuwin II" CD in your CD-ROM drive.
Follow the setup wizard.
Allow the setup to reboot your computer.
The additional reboot is necessary because this program uses a system service which is
automatically started during a system start.
3.5 Further configuration process
Start the program “Commuwin II Ethernet configurator” from the START-menu. Use the tab
“Configuration” to configure your IP addresses, the logical names and the PROFIbus - Ethernet
gateways. Refer to the context sensitive help for this tab by pressing the button “Help”. If you need
help beginning at top level you may press the button with the question mark or choose the help
option from the SART-menu.
The first Ethernet/PROFIbus gateway has already been installed with step 3.1. It’s current IP
address is the factory default. Enter the desired IP address from the list you got from your network
administrator, enter the logical name and then press the link “Gateway configuration”; you are
lead directly to the configuration site of the gateway where you can now enter the IP address you
just entered in the tab. Terminate the gateway’s configuration site.
Note!
Before using the link make sure that your Internet explorer doesn’t use a proxyserver.
For proper configuration of the gateway please use the password “MakeIt” and choose the
option “after next reboot”.
If you are not able to reach the gateway configuration site, please refer to the gateway
manual and contact your network administrator.
Important!
Connect the next gateways, one after the other to the Ethernet, and proceed as described
above for the first gateway; always use the tab “Configuration”.
3.6 Deinstallation
Please deinstall in the following order by using START–>Settings–>Control panel–>Software:
1. CommuWinII Ethernet configuration software
2. PROFIbus device driver
3. CommuWinII

4.1 Configuring CommuwinII parameters
Before you start CommuwinII check the communication parameters. For example the following
parameters are used by the Pepperl&Fuchs segment coupler:
4.2 Some differences between operating systems WIN NT and
WIN2000
4.2.1 Starting the CommuwinII Ethernet configuration software twice
A second launch of the program, which may happen accidently when the program is iconized to
the taskbar notification area, is prevented under both WIN NT and WIN 2000.
Under WIN NT it is just re-activated with it’s full window, while under WIN 2000 the program remains
iconized.
4.2.2 Language aspects
Under WIN NT, the program uses the language of the “Regional settings” properties
(START–>Settings–>Control panel).
Under WIN 2000 the program uses the language of the localization properties of the operating
system. Regional settings are not supported
