UNIT DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The WA-300 is a pass i ve infra red wall switch that turns lighting ON and OFF
based on occupancy and ambient light levels. SmartSet™ te c h n o logy allows the
sensor to be insta l l ed without any adjustments and auto m a t i ca l ly adjusts it to
the usage patterns in the space. Alte r n a te o perating modes, sele c t ed by DIP
s w i t ch settings, can be combined to cre a t e the ideal custom co n t rol.
The WA-300 co n tains two relays. Dual buttons on the front of the WA-300 allow
the user to co n t rol one or two loads independently. Pre s sing a button to g g l e s
the sta te of the co r responding relay, turning ON the load if it is curre n t l y OFF or
OFF if it is curre n t ly ON. If no motion is dete c ted during the time delay that is in
e f f ect, the load will turn OFF.
The WA-300 also co n tains a light level sensor that, when enabled, affects the
s e c ondary re l a y. If adequate daylight is present, the sensor holds the seco n d a r y
load OFF until light levels drop, even when the co n t r o l l ed area is occ u p i e d .
U s e rs can override this function by pre s sing the Relay 2 ON/OFF button. The
load will then remain ON until the space is unoccupied.
Turning The Load ON
The relays are pro g ram med independently for either Auto ON or Manual ON. In
either mode, the load can be turned ON or OFF using the ON/OFF butto n .
Load turns ON and OFF auto m a t i ca l l y based on occ u p a n c y. If the
load is turned OFF manually, as long as the sensor continues to
d e tect occupancy the load stays OFF. The lights stay OFF for five
m i n u t es after the last occupancy detection, then the sensor reve r t s
to the Auto ON mode. This prevents the load from auto m a t i ca l ly
turning ON after it was delibera t e l y turned OFF. Pre s sing the butto n
to turn the lights ON returns the sensor to the Auto ON mode.
Time Delays
The WA-300 holds the load ON until no motion is dete c ted for the sele c ted time
d e l a y. Select the time delay using DIP switch settings. The sensor auto m a t i ca l l y
sets the time delay when SmartSet is enabled; with the fixed time delay
settings you select a time delay between 5 to 30 minutes.
Both relays use the same delay, unle s s a delayed disconnect is enabled fo r
relay 2 using the “20 +10” delay fe a t u re. This delayed disconnect fe a t u r e is
useful in applications where you want both loads to turn OFF auto m a t i c a l ly, but
want relay 2 to stay ON longer, such as when running an ex h a u st fan after the
lights have shut OFF.
Manual
ON
O c cupants must turn ON the load by pre s sing the ON/OFF butto n .
The sensor keeps the load ON until no motion is dete c ted for the
s e l e c ted time delay. There is a 30 second reset delay. If motion is
d e te c ted during this time, the sensor turns the load back ON
a u t o m a t i ca l ly. After the reset delay time has elapsed, the ON/OFF
b u t t on must be pre s sed to turn ON the lo a d .

High
Walk-Through
Mode
The WA-300 turns the load OFF three minutes afte r
the area is initially occupied, if no motion is dete c te d
a f t er the first 30 seconds. If motion continues beyo n d
the first 30 seconds, the set time delay applies.
Alerts
The WA-300 can provide audible alerts as a warning befo r e the lights turn OFF.
D e f ault setting. Suita b le for most applica t i o n s .
Sensitivity Adjustment
The WA-300 co n sta n t ly monito rs the co n t ro l l ed environment and auto m a t i ca l l y
a d j u sts to avoid common ambient conditions that can cause false dete c t i o n s ,
w h i l e providing maximum cove rag e.
Fixed Time Delay DIP switch selections provide fixed time delays of 5,
10, 15, 20, 20 + 10, or 30 minute s .
SmartSet™ Time
Delays
R e co rds typical occupancy patterns. Using this histo r y
(which is co n sta n t ly updated), it chooses an optimal
time delay from 7 minutes (if the space is usually
va cant) up to 30 minutes (if the space gets heavy
usage). SmartSet behavior starts immediate l y, and is
refined co n t i n u a l ly as history is co l le c t e d .
To te st the sensor, a short time delay of 5 seconds is
set as the default (SmartSet/Te s t). Te s t Mode ca n ce l s
a u t o m a t i ca l l y after five minutes, or if a fixed time delay
is sele c ted . To re s tart the Te s t Mode, change the time
delay switch setting to any fixed amount and then
return it to the SmartSet/Te s t setting.
Test Mode Time
Delay
R e d u c es sensitivity by approx i m a te l y 50%. Useful in
cases where the sensor is detecting movement outside
of the desired area (also consider masking the le n s )
and where heat sources cause unnecssary activa t i o n .
Low
No Alerts
Sensor "chirps" twice, at one minute and at 30
s e c onds befo r e turning OFF. A distinct alert sounds 10
s e c onds befo r e the lights go OFF.
Audible Alerts
No warning is prov i d e d .
20 + 10
(Delay Relay 2
Disconnect)
Both relays use the same Time Delay, except when the
delay is set for “20 + 10.” This enables a delaye d
d i s c onnect for relay 2. When the delayed disconnect is
e n a b led, relay 1 has a 20 minute time delay and relay 2
turns OFF 10 minutes after relay 1.

COVERAGE PATTERNS
The WA-300 will cover up to 300 sq. ft. (28m
2
). The typical re co m m e n d e d
cove rage for desktop activity is 150 sq. ft. (14m
2
). The sensor has a two - t i e r e d ,
m u l t i - cel l viewing Fresnel lens with 180 degree field of view.
Masking the lens
Opaque adhesive tape is supplied so that sections of the sensor’s view can be
m a s ked . This allows you to eliminate cove rage in unwanted areas. Since
masking re m o ves bands of cove rag e, remember to ta k e this into acco u n t
when tro u b leshooting cove rage pro b l e m s .

ADJUSTMENTS
Sensor Adjustment
The WA-300 is preset to SmartSet mode. It is designed for “Install and Fo r g e t ”
f u n c t i o n a l i t y. If you need to change the settings, fo l low the directions below.
All major adjustments to the WA-300 must be made with the wall plate re m ove d .
To acce s s the DIP switches, re m ove the button cap by squeezing the top sides of
the button ass e m b l y and pull it gently away from the unit.
When the adjustments are co m p l e t ed, re p l a ce the button cap by inserting its
hinges into the LED light bar and then squeeze the top of the button while
p r e ssing it into the unit. Reinstall the cover plate .
Light Level Adjustment
The light level setting only affects Relay 2. The light level can be set with the
overhead lights ON or OFF. To enable light level co n t r ol and set the threshold to
m a tch a particular ambient light level: 1) Put the sensor into TEST mode.
2) Pre s s and hold the Relay 2 b u t ton for 3 seconds, until you hear a beep.
3) Step away from the sensor. After 25 seconds another beep sounds, indica t i n g
that the threshold level is set. This threshold is re t ained, even if power is lo s t ,
until it is re - p r o g rammed in this manner. To disable light level co n t rol, pre s s and
hold the Relay 2 b u t t on for ten seco n d s, until a beep tone sounds.
Reset to Default
P re s s and hold the Relay 1 b u t t o n for ten seconds to reset the WA-300 to fa c t o r y
settings. This resets the sensor occupancy history and disables light level co n t ro l
(the brighte s t ambient light will not hold the light OFF).

Lights do not turn OFF
1 . T h e r e can be up to a 30 minute time delay after the last motion is
d e te c ted. To verify proper operation, set DIP switch 1 to ON, then re s e t
s w i t ches 1, 2, and 3 to OFF to start Te s t Mode. Move out of view of the
s e n s o r. The lights should turn OFF in approx i m a te l y 5 seco n d s .
2 . Verify that the sensor is mounted at le a s t six feet (2 mete rs) away fro m
any heating/ventilating/air conditioning dev i ce that may cause fa l s e
d e tection. Verify that there is no significant heat source (e.g., high watta g e
light bulb) mounted near the sensor.
3 . If the lights still do not turn OFF, call 800.879.8585 for te c h n i c al support.
Sensing motion outside desired areas
1 . S e l ect Sensitivity – Low (DIP switch 8 = ON) if nece s s a r y.
2 . Mask the sensor’s lens, using the opaque tape supplied.
No response to repeated button presses
Rapid pre s sing of the ON/OFF button causes a delay in proper functioning of
the sensor. If the sensor does not respond to pre s sing the ON/OFF button, wait
10-15 seconds, then pre s s the button o n c e a g a i n .
