Öhlins suspension type 46HMRXQ
Your new Öhlins suspension features 54 mm diameter
heavy duty inserts, PDS (Progressive Damping System)
and 190 mm stroke. The suspension has the following
adjusters:
Compression damping:
Adjustments are made on the hose connected reservoir.
Low speed adjustments: Slotted centre screw.
High speed adjustments: Hexagon screw, use a 13 mm
key.
Rebound damping adjustments:
The adjuster is at the bottom of the strut, use a 3 mm
Allen key.
Spring pre-load:
Adjustments are made with adjustment rings on the strut
casing. Use the c-spanners.
When delivered the Öhlins suspension is dialled to rec-
ommended settings for the specific brand and make of
the vehicle. For extreme rallies like the Safari Rally, the
setting usually needs to be changed, talk to your dis-
tributor.
WARNING!
Do not run the dampers if the cylinder tubes are bent. This
will cause excessive wear on the PDS, and may damage it.
Check the tubes after each rally, or after large impacts.

NOTE!
If you have turned the adjuster without counting the
number of clicks you must go back to the recommended
settings. Close the adjuster and count the clicks while
turning it counter clockwise.
CAUTION!
Using too much force when closing the adjusters will
destroy important sealing surfaces.
Optional springs
There are several optional springs available, in
two different lengths. The longer ones are in-
tended for rallies where the car needs to be
raised, for instance the Safari Rally.
If the car needs to be raised more than what is
obtained with the allowed distance A below ,
external spacers (packers) should be used to
prevent the spring from bottoming.
WARNING!
In order to prevent bottoming the spring out, the
list below shows the maximum distance A between
the upper flange of the upright bracket and the
bottom of the lock nut, see fig.

WARNING!
1. It´s advisable to have an Öhlins dealer or other
qualified person to mount your McPherson struts.
2. Instructions in the vehicle service manual are
to be followed when changing the McPherson
struts.
3. When working on a raised vehicle it must be
securely supported to prevent it from falling.
Mounting instructions
1
Lift the car so the front wheels are clear of the
ground. Make sure it´s steadily fixed so it will not
fall down.
2
Remove the wheel and loosen the lower strut
attachment. Support the upright, to reduce the
risk of damaging the brake hose.
3
Loosen the top mount (three nuts) and remove
the standard strut
CAUTION!
Avoid the use of an impact wrench when remov-
ing the top mount from the strut, since this can
cause the piston nut to loosen from the piston
shaft.
4
Check the marking on the Öhlins front struts to
locate left or right front.
5
Fit the Öhlins strut to the car. First put the hose
connected reservoir through the hole in the inner
fender. Fit the top mount bracket first and then
the lower bracket. Put the supplied sleeve
(00123-15) in the upper hole of the upright. Use
screw (00432-03) and flange nut (00139-04).
Do not overtighten the strut brace. See owners
manual of the car. Refit the wheel.
6
Fit the hose connected reservoir in front of the
upper edge of the radiator. Use the rubber mount
and the tie-raps.
NOTE!
Make sure that all bolts are tightened to the correct
torque and that nothing fouls or restricts movement
of the suspension when it is being fully compressed
or extended.
7
Continue your work accordning to Owners
manual, section adjustments.
Set ride height, camber angles and toe in.
