3.4.1 Removing or Rack out the 38kV SEG&TD to the TEST
position
1. Rotate the selector switch to the “OFF” position. Remove the
remote operator from the receptacle.

2. Using the racking crank provided, engage the end of the raking
crank with the racking mechanism of the 38 kV SEG&TD (see
Figure 36). Turn the raking crank counter clock-wise until the
SEG&TD is fully racked out to the "TEST" position.
3. Visually check to make sure the 38 kV SEG&TD is open and
racked to the "TEST" position.

1. Rotate the 38 kV SEG&TD selector switch to the open position.
(Figure 37)
2. Remove key “KU” from the Utility lockbox and insert it into
Lock #1. (Figure 28)
3. Rotate key ‘KU’ in Lock #1 and remove key “KB”. This
electri¬cally disables the 38 kV SEG&TD. (Figure 15 Disabled)
4. Insert key “KB” into Lock #2 and rotate then remove key “KC”’.
(Figure 16) and place into Lock #3. Turn Key KC to unlock the
slide handles.

5. Now pull the slide handles inward as shown in (Figure 35) ,
withdraw the 38 kV SEG&TD past the disconnected position
(see Figure 35) and remove 38kV SEG&TD completely from the
breaker cell.
ote:N It may prove beneficial to have an assistant or use the
38kV VCP-HD Cradle Assist Kit (style No. 71C2570G01) to help with
inserting the 38 kV SEG&TD into the breaker cell due to the weight of
the device and the location of the slide handles.
6. Rotate key “KC” in Lock #3 locking the slide handles and
remove it.
7. Insert key “KC” into Lock #2 and rotate it to release key “KB”.
8. Insert key “KB” into Lock #1 then rotate and remove key “KU”.
9. Return key “KU” to the Utility lockbox.

10. Store the 38 kV SEG&TD in an environment that meets specifi-
cations.
ote:N The 38 kV SEG&TD should be in the open position with the test port
shutters locked closed and keys held captive as detailed in Table 2.
3.5 Converting 38kV –HD SEG&TD Assembly
•
Refer to Appendix – C: for instructions on converting the
38kV-HD SEG&TD from:
(Power grounding configuration 1) to
(Test Probes & Testing Feeder configuration – Figure 2).
• Remove the grounding shunt assembly.
• Install Nylon insulator along with the conductor gasket on the
pole units.
ote:N it is the customers responsibility to obtain and secure all compo-
nents and hardware supplied by Eaton during and after the conversion
for future reverse conversion.
(Test Probes & Testing Feeder configuration – Figure 2) to
(Power grounding configuration – Figure 1)
• Remove Nylon insulator along with the conductor gasket on the
pole units.
• Install the grounding shunt assembly.
3.6 Test probes and testing the feeders
3.6.1 Preparing the test probes and cables.
The test probes should be connected via supplied cables with the
probes using the procedure that follows:
1. Each test probe (692C899H02 – supplied with 38kV SEG&TD)
has a 33 inch long cable that permits the cable ends extend out
past the cell front door. (Figure 43, shows 33 inch long cable).
Additional cable length connection can be made to each probe
assembly supplied, if needed. To extend; strip not more than (1
inch) from the end of each test probe cable. Then splice desired
cable extension length required by customer.
2. A wire lug (wire gage size: 1/0) can be used to connect to the
end of the extension cable by stripping not more than (1 inch)
and further voltage probing/sensing apparatus.
Figure 43. Entire test probe (692C899).
3. Additional (boot or appropriate insulating material) to securely
cover the above option instructions (extension -1 and or lug -2),
must be used to pass the dielectric test.
ote:N Customer to use appropriate Insulation for application voltage.
