2 Take pictures
Charge the batteries
Step 1
Charge the batteries
The CHARGE lamp will start to
blink.
Connect the power cable to the MH-61 battery charger (

) and
insert the wall plug into a power outlet (

). The CHARGE lamp
will light (

).
Remove the terminal cover from
EN-EL5 and insert the battery into
the MH-61, making sure that the
small projection on the battery is
inserted into the matching pit on
the charger. Charging will begin
immediately.

Charging is complete when the
CHARGE lamp stops blinking.
An exhausted battery can be fully
recharged in about two hours.

Attach the camera strap
Attach the camera strap securely to the eyelet on the camera body as shown
below.
Attaching the Viewfi nder Eyecup
A viewfi nder eyecup can be
attached as an aid to users
who wear glasses or to pre-
vent light from entering via
the viewfi nder. Attach the
eyecup as shown at right.

Open the memory card slot/
battery-chamber cover
Slide the cover in the direction
shown in (
1
) until it stops and
the cover opens (

).
Insert the battery
Insert the battery as shown in
the label at the entrance to the
battery chamber, making sure
the positive (“+”) and negative
(“–”) terminals are in the correct
orientation. The small projection
on the battery is on the same side
as the negative terminal.
Inserting the battery upside
down or backwards could dam-
age the camera. Check to be
sure the battery is in the correct
orientation.
The orange battery latch is
pushed aside as the battery is in-
serted. The latch will close when
the battery is fully inserted.

The fi rst time the camera is turned on, a language-selection dialog will be
displayed in the monitor. Follow the steps below to choose a language and
set the time and date.
The multi selector is used to navigate through the camera menus.

Ready the camera
Hold the camera steadily in both hands.
Frame the subject
Frame the subject in the center of the monitor. Pictures can be
framed in the monitor or the viewfi nder.
Zoom buttons
Press T to zoom in on the
subject so that it fi lls a larger
area of the frame. Press W
to zoom out, increasing the
area visible in the frame.
Don’t Block the Shot
To avoid dark or partially obscured pictures, keep your fi ngers and
other objects away from the lens and fl ash window.

Take the picture
Press the shutter-release button the rest of the way
down to take the picture. To prevent blur, press the
shutter-release button down smoothly.
The COOLPIX 3700 has a two-stage shutter-release button. Pressing
the shutter-release button halfway focuses the camera. Pressing it
the rest of the way down releases the shutter to record a picture.
Focus
Press the shutter-release button halfway to set focus and expo-
sure. Focus and exposure will lock while the shutter-release but-
ton is pressed halfway.
With the shutter-release button pressed halfway, check focus and
ash:

View pictures
Now that you’ve taken a few pictures, you can transfer (copy) them
to a computer, where you can view, edit, and organize them.
Turn the camera off
Rotate the power switch in the
direction shown until it stops and
then release it. The camera is off
when the power-on lamp is off.

off, pressing the
button for about one
second will turn the
camera on with a pic-
ture displayed in the
monitor.

View additional pictures
Press the multi selector down or
right to view pictures in the order
recorded, up or left to view pic-
tures in reverse order. Keep the
multi selector pressed to scroll
quickly to the desired frame.
To return to shooting mode, press
the button again.

Before Installing Nikon View
Turn off any virus-checking software
Exit all other applications that may be running
Uninstall Existing Versions of Nikon View and Nikon Capture Version 1.x
Before installing Nikon View, you will need to uninstall Nikon Capture version
1.x (if installed) and any earlier versions of Nikon View.
Connecting the Camera to a Computer
Be sure to install Nikon View before connecting the camera to your
computer. If the Add New Hardware Wizard is displayed when the
camera is connected, click Cancel to exit the wizard.

Installing Nikon View (Windows)
Turn the computer on and wait for Windows to start up.
If the Language Selection Dialog Is Not Displayed
Select My Computer from the Start menu (Windows XP Home Edition/
Windows XP Professional; in other versions of Windows, double-click
the My Computer icon on the desktop) and double-click the CD-ROM
(NKVIEW6) icon in the My Computer window.
Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional,
Windows 2000 Professional
When installing, using, or uninstalling Nikon View, log on as the
“Computer administrator” (Windows XP Home Edition, Windows
XP Professional), “Administrator” (Windows 2000 Professional).
Important
Insert the Nikon View installer CD-
ROM into the CD-ROM drive. The
Install Center program will launch
automatically and a language selec-
tion dialog will be displayed. Select a
language and click Next.
Click Easy Install. The standard in-
stall includes:
A PTP driver (Windows XP only)
Coolpix Camera Drivers (Mass Stor-
age driver) (Windows 98 SE only)
• Panorama Maker
• QuickTime 5
• Nikon View

Windows
The fi rst components to be installed are the camera drivers. What
drivers are installed depends on the computer’s operating system.
Windows XP Home Edition/Professional
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the PTP driver. On some sys-
tems a Microsoft Wizard may install the PTP driver. Click Finish or OK
after the installation of the PTP driver.
Windows 2000 Professional/Windows Millennium Edition (Me)
No drivers are installed. Proceed to Step .
Windows 98 Second Edition (SE)
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Coolpix Camera Drivers.
Installation of Panorama Maker opens
with a language selection dialog.
Choose a language and click OK.

Finish to exit the Panorama
Click Next to install Panorama Maker.
The destination folder for Panorama
Maker will be displayed under “Des-
tination Folder.” Click Next to install
Panorama Maker to this folder, or
click Browse to select another des-
tination.
After reading the license agreement,
click Yes to accept the agreement and
proceed with installation.
The opening dialog of the Panorama
Maker install wizard will be displayed;
click Next.

QuickTime 5. No registration number
is required; leave the registration in-
formation blank and click Next.

After the computer restarts, remove the Nikon View installer CD-
ROM from the CD-ROM drive.
This completes installation of Nikon View. The next step is to trans-
fer pictures to your computer.
Finish to exit the Nikon View
If the “Select Language” dialog is displayed
after the computer restarts, click Quit to close
the dialog and then remove the Nikon View
installer CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive.
Yes to restart your computer.
