Electrolytewilloverowontootherparts

Chargingthebatteryproducesgasses

7.Whenthebatteryischarged,disconnectthe

chargerfromtheelectricaloutletandbattery

posts.Allowthebatterytositfor5to10minutes

beforeproceedingtothenextstep.

Note:Afterthebatteryhasbeenactivated,

addonlydistilledwatertoreplacenormalloss,

althoughmaintenance-freebatteriesshouldnot

requirewaterundernormaloperatingconditions.

8.Insertthebatteryintothetrayinthebattery

compartment.Positionthebatterysothatthe

terminalsaretotheinside.

WARNING

Batteryterminalsormetaltoolscould

shortagainstmetalcomponentsofthe

tractionunitormachine,causingsparks.

Sparkscancausethebatterygassesto

explode,resultinginpersonalinjury.

•Whenremovingorinstallingthe

battery,donotallowthebattery

terminalstotouchanymetalpartsof

themachine.

•Donotallowmetaltoolstoshort

betweenthebatteryterminalsandany

metalparts.

9.Attachthepositivecable(redcablefromthe

ignitionswitch)tothepositive(+)terminal.

10.Attachthenegativecable(blackcablefromthe

engineblock)tothenegative(–)terminalofthe

battery.

Important:Ensurethatthereisclearance

betweenthebatterycablesandthespeed

selectorlever.Verifythatthespeedselector

leverdoesnotcomewithin1inch(2.5cm)of

eitherbatterycablewhenitismovedthrough

itsentirerangeofmotion.Donotwireor

tapethenegativeandpositivebatterycables

together.

WARNING

Incorrectbatterycableroutingcould

damagethemachineandcables,causing

sparks.Sparkscancausethebattery

gassestoexplode,resultinginpersonal

injury.

•Alwaysdisconnectthenegative

(black)batterycablebefore

disconnectingthepositive(red)

cable.

variousspeeds.MovingthethrottlelevertotheFAST

positionincreasestheenginespeed.Todecreasethe

enginespeed,movethelevertotheSLOWposition.

•Forbestresults,useonlyclean,fresh(lessthan

30daysold),unleadedgasolinewithanoctane

ratingof87orhigher((R+M)/2ratingmethod).

•Ethanol:Gasolinewithupto10%ethanol

(gasohol)or15%MTBE(methyltertiarybutyl

ether)byvolumeisacceptable.Ethanoland

MTBEarenotthesame.Gasolinewith15%

ethanol(E15)byvolumeisnotapprovedforuse.

Neverusegasolinethatcontainsmorethan

10%ethanolbyvolume,suchasE15(contains

15%ethanol),E20(contains20%ethanol),orE85

(containsupto85%ethanol).Usingunapproved

gasolinemaycauseperformanceproblemsand/or

enginedamagewhichmaynotbecoveredunder

warranty.

•Donotusegasolinecontainingmethanol.

•Donotstorefueleitherinthefueltankorinfuel

containersoverthewinterunlessyouuseafuel

stabilizer.

1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,shutoffthe

engine,andallowtheenginetocool.

2.Cleanaroundthefuel-tankcapandremoveit.

3.Fillthetanktoapproximately25mm(1inch)

belowthetopofthetank(thebottomoftheller

neck).

Important:Thisspaceinthetankallows

thefueltoexpand.Donotllthefueltank

completelyfull.

4.Installthefuel-tankcapsecurely.

5.Wipeupanyspilledfuel.

CheckingtheEngine-Oil

Level

ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily(Checkthe

oilwhentheengineiscold.)

Theengineisshippedwithhigh-qualityoilinthe

crankcase;however,theoillevelmustbechecked

beforeandaftertheengineisrststarted.

Crankcasecapacityisapproximately1.9L(2USqt)

withthelter.

Note:Thebesttimetochecktheengineoiliswhen

theengineiscoolbeforeithasbeenstartedforthe

day.Ifithasalreadybeenrun,allowtheoiltodrain

backdowntothesumpforatleast10minutesbefore

checking.IftheoillevelisatorbelowtheAddmark

onthedipstick,addoiltobringtheoilleveltotheFull

mark.Donotoverll.Iftheoillevelisbetweenthe

FullandAddmarks,youdonotneedtoaddoil.

1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,shutoffthe

engine,removethekey,andwaitforallmoving

partstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating

position.

2.Cleanaroundtheoildipsticksothatdirtcannot

fallintothellerholeanddamagetheengine

(Figure8).

longerthan10seconds.After10secondsof

continuouscranking,wait60secondsbefore

2.Turnthedepth-adjustmentboltuntiltherake

slightlycontactsthetopoftheturfgrass.Ifa

broomisinstalled,slightcontactshouldbemade

withthesurface.Whenthebroomisoperating,

thecontactwidthsurfaceshouldbeabout25

mm(1inch)wideacrosstheentirelengthofthe

thebearingswhenevermachineiswashedwithwater.

togetintothebearingsandbushings,resultingin

acceleratedwear.Thegreasettingsthatyoumust

lubricateinclude:thegaugewheelbearings,the

reelshaftbearings,theimpellershaftbearings,the

jackshaftbearings,andtheleftandrighttrailingarms.
