removethekey.

Whencleaning,repairing,orinspecting,ensure
thattherotarybroomandallmovingpartshave

stopped.Disconnectthespark-plugwire,and
keepthewireawayfromtheplugtoprevent
accidentalstarting.
Disengagethepowertotherotarybroomwhen
themachineistransportedornotinuse.
Afterstrikingaforeignobject,shutofftheengine,
disconnectthewirefromthesparkplug,thoroughly
inspectthemachineforanydamage,andrepair
thedamagebeforestartingandoperatingthe
machine.
Ifthemachineshouldstarttovibrateabnormally,
shutofftheengineandcheckimmediatelyforthe
cause.Vibrationisgenerallyawarningoftrouble.
Neveroperatethemachinewithoutproperguards,
plates,orothersafetyprotectivedevicesinplace.
Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapproved
bythemanufacturerofthemachine(suchas
wheelweights,counterweights,cabs,etc.).
ClearingaCloggedBroom
WARNING
Therotatingbroomcouldcauseserious
injury.
Alwaysusecautionwhencleaningthebroom.
Toclearthebroom:
Movethemachineonlevelground,shutoffthe
engine,waitforallmovingpartstostop,and
disconnectthespark-plugwire(s).
Sharpobjectscanbecomeentangledinthe
bristles.Wearprotectiveglovesandusecaution
whencleaningoutthebroomofforeignobjects;do
notuseyourbarehands.
MaintenanceandStorage
Neverattempttomakeanyadjustmentswhile
theengineisrunning(exceptwherespecically
recommendedbythemanufacturer).
Checkallofthefastenersatfrequentintervalsfor
propertightnesstoensurethatthemachineisin
safe,workingcondition.
Neverstorethemachinewithfuelinthefuel
tankinsideabuildingwhereignitionsourcesare
present,suchashotwaterandspaceheaters,
clothingdryers,etc.Allowtheenginetocool
beforestoringthemachineinanyenclosure.
AlwaysrefertotheinstructionsintheOperators
Manualforimportantdetailsifthemachineistobe
storedforanextendedperiod.
Maintainorreplacethesafetyandinstruction
labels,asnecessary.
Whenoperatinginsnowconditions,runthe
machineforafewminutesafterthrowingsnowto
preventfreezeupofthebroomandhousing.

Wheel-ClutchLevers
Thewheel-clutchleversarelocatedbelowtheright
andlefthandles.
Thewheelclutchleversallowthedrivetomomentarily
disengageto1orbothwheelswiththetraction-drive
leversqueezed.Thisallowsforeasierturningand
maneuveringthemachine(Figure6).
Note:Squeezingbothwheelclutchlevers
simultaneouslydisengagesthedrivetobothwheels
(free-wheeling).Thisenablesyoutomanuallymove
themachinebackwardwithoutstoppingtoshiftitinto
areversegear.Italsoallowsyoutomaneuverand
transportthemachinemoreeasilywhentheengine
isnotrunning.

Ethanol:Gasolinewithupto10%ethanol
(gasohol)or15%MTBE(methyltertiarybutyl
ether)byvolumeisacceptable.Ethanoland
MTBEarenotthesame.Gasolinewith15%
ethanol(E15)byvolumeisnotapprovedforuse.
Neverusegasolinethatcontainsmorethan
10%ethanolbyvolume,suchasE15(contains
15%ethanol),E20(contains20%ethanol),orE85
(containsupto85%ethanol).Usingunapproved
gasolinemaycauseperformanceproblemsand/or
enginedamagewhichmaynotbecoveredunder

normal,ambientairpositions:
Adjusttheair-cleanercoverasfollows:
Whenoperatinginacoldambientaircondition
(coldairtemperatureandhumidity),positionthe
air-cleanercoverwithsnowakedecalfacingout
(Figure8).
Note:Usethispositionifyourmachineexhibits
carburetoricing.Symptomsincludetheengine
runsroughatidleorlowspeed,anditdischarges
blackorwhitesmokeintheexhaust.
Whenoperatinginanormalambientaircondition,
positiontheair-cleanercoverwithsundecalfacing
out(Figure8).

DrivingtheMachine

OperatingtheBroom

Whenthemachineisinoperation,contact

Beforeadjusting,cleaning,inspecting,
troubleshooting,orrepairingthemachine,
shutofftheengineandwaitforallmoving
partstostop.Disconnectthewire(s)from
thesparkplug(s)andkeepitawayfromthe
plugtopreventsomeonefromaccidentally

Staybehindthehandlesandawayfromthe
broomwhileoperatingthemachine.
Keepface,hands,feet,andanyother
partofyourbodyorclothingawayfrom
concealed,moving,orrotatingparts.

operatororbystanders.
Toremoveanobstructionfromthebroom;

CheckingtheSweeping
Path
Abroomsweepswiththetipsofitsbristles.Whenyou
applytoomuchdownwardpressure,thebroomno
longerusesitstips;thebroomisnowworkingwiththe
sidesofthebristles.Thislimitstheickingactionof
thebristlesandsweepingeffectiveness,decreasing
theservicelifeofthebroom.
1.Drivetoaat,dustyareaandstopthemachine.
2.Withtheenginerunningmovethethrottle
midwaybetweenSLOWandFAST.
3.Engagethebroomandallowthebroomto
sweepforapproximately30seconds.
4.Disengagethebroomandshutofftheengine.
5.Waitforallmovingpartstostopbeforeleaving
theoperatingposition.
6.ShutofftheengineOn/OffswitchtotheOFF
position.
7.Makesurethattheareasweptequalsthelength
ofthebroomandamaximumwidthof51to102

traction-drivelever.Whileengagingthebroom,
pushdownonthehandlestoraisethefrontof
themachineafewcentimeters(inches)offthe
pavement.Thenliftthehandlesquicklytobump
thefrontofthemachineonthepavement.Repeat
ifnecessary.
Ifyoucannotunclogthebroombybumpingthe

Parkthemachineonlevelground.Shutoffthe

PreventingFreeze-up
Insnowyandcoldconditions,somecontrolsand
movingpartsmayfreeze.Donotuseexcessive
forcewhentryingtooperatefrozencontrols.Ifyou
havedifcultyoperatinganycontrolorpart,start
theengineandletitrunforafewminutes.
Afterusingthemachine,lettheenginerunfora
fewminutestopreventmovingpartsfromfreezing.
Engagethebroomtoclearanyremainingsnow
frominsidethehousing.Shutofftheengineand
waitforallmovingpartstostop,anddisconnect
thespark-plugwire.Removeallice,snow,orother
debrisfromthemachine.
Connectthespark-plugwire.Withtheengine
switchintheOFFposition,pulltherecoil-starter
handleseveraltimestopreventtherecoilstarter
fromfreezingup.
TransportingtheMachine
WARNING
Usingrampsthatarenotstrongenoughor
properlysupportedtoloadthemachineonto
