PreferredPro

USBFingerprintKeyboard(hereaftercalledthekeyboard).

Productdescription

Thissectionprovidesageneraldescriptionofthekeyboard.

Thekeyboardisequippedwithmanyfunctionsthataddconvenienceandsecuritytoyourcomputer.Instead

ofusingapassword,thengerprintreaderonthekeyboardenablesyoutoswipeyourngerprinttoaccess

yourcomputerresources.Asmultipleuniquengerprintsareavailableatyourngertipsandarestored

securelyonyourcomputer,youcanbeassuredthatyourpersonalinformationisprotected.

WhentheNumericLockLEDisilluminated,thenumerickeypadonthekeyboardisenabled.Whenthe

LEDisnotilluminated,thecursorcontrolonthenumerickeypadisenabled.PresstheNumericLock

(NumLkorNmLk)keytoswitchbackandforthbetweenthesemodes.

•CapsLockLED:

WhentheCapsLockLEDisilluminated,theCapsLockmodeisenabled.Inthismode,youcantypeall

alphabeticcharacters(A-Z)inuppercasewithoutpressingtheShiftkey.WhentheLEDisnotilluminated,

theCapsLockmodeisdisabled.ToenableordisabletheCapsLockmode,presstheCapsLock(Caps

LockorCapsLk)key.

•ScrollLockLED:

WhentheScrollLockLEDisilluminated,theScrollLockmodeisenabled.Thearrowkeyscanbeused

asscreen-scrollfunctionkeysandthecursorcannotbemovedwiththearrowkeys.Notallapplication

programssupportthisfunction.WhentheScrollLockLEDisnotilluminated,thearrowkeyscanbeused

Withtheintegratedngerprintreader,youcanenrollyourngerprintsandassociatethemwithapower-on

password,aharddiskdrivepassword,orbothbeforehand.Thusthengerprintauthenticationcanreplace

passwordsandenablesimpleandsecureuseraccess.

Attention:Power-onandharddiskdrivepasswordssupportrequiresthatngerprintrecognitionbe

supportedbyyourcomputerBasicInputOutputSystem(BIOS).IfyourcomputerBIOSsupportsngerprint

recognition,youcanstartthecomputer,logontothesystem,andentertheBIOSSetupUtilitybyswiping

yourngeroverthereader,withouttypingapassword.

ToinstalltheThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwareontheWindowsXP,WindowsVista,Windows7,orWindows

1.Saveanyopendocumentsandexitallapplications.

Creatingapassportandenrollingngerprints

Tocreateapassportandenrollyourrstngerprint,dothefollowing:

1.OpentheThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowbydoingoneofthefollowing:

•ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙ThinkVantage➙ThinkVantageFingerprintSoftware.The

ThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowopens.

•ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools.Then,double-clickFingerprint

Reader.TheThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowopens.

2.EnteryourWindowspasswordandclickSubmit.TheEndUserAgreementwindowisdisplayed.

3.CarefullyreadtheEndUserAgreementandclickAccept.

Note:YoumustagreetotheEndUserAgreementtoinstalltheproduct.

4.Whenadialogwithtwohandsisdisplayed,selectangertoenrollbyclickingthebuttonabovethe

nger.

5.Swipetheselectedngeroverthengerprintsensor.Goodqualitymatchingngerprintsarerequired.It

isstronglyrecommendedthatyouenrollmorethanonengerintheeventofinjury.

6.(Optional-onlyifsupportedbyyourcomputer)APower-onbuttonisdisplayedaboveeachnger.

ClickthePower-onbuttonabovetheselectednger.Theselectedngerwillbeusedinsteadofyour

power-onand/orharddiskpasswords(BIOSpasswords)atthesystemstartup.

Notes:

•IfyoudonotuseaWindowspassword,youwillbepromptedtodeneone.Thisisoptional,buta

passwordimprovesthesecurityofyoursoftware.

•Formoreinformationaboutenrollingyourngerprintforpower-onandharddiskdrivepasswords

(BIOSpasswords),see“EnrollingyourngerprintsforBIOSpasswords”onpage10.

Swipingyourngeroverthengerprintreader

Toswipeyourngeroverthengerprintreader,dothefollowing:

1.Placeyourngertiponthesmallcircularindentationabovethereader,asshownbelow.Ensurethatthe

restofyourngerisatonthereader.

ThissectionprovidesinformationaboutthengerprintreadersettingsintheBIOS.

SettingupthengerprintreaderintheBIOS

TosetupthengerprintreaderinyourcomputerBIOS,dothefollowing:

1.Setapower-onpasswordoraharddiskdrivepassword,orboth.

2.Turnoffthecomputerandthenturniton.

3.Whenprompted,swipeyourngeroverthengerprintreader.

4.Typeyourpower-onpassword,yourharddiskdrivepassword,orbothasrequested.Theenrolled

ngerprintisnowassociatedwithyourpower-onpassword,yourharddiskdrivepassword,orboth.

Thersttimeyoustartthecomputer,youwillneedtologontothesystembyswipingyourngeroverthe

readeronceandenteringyourpasswordtoassociatethetwo.Thenexttimeyoustartthecomputer,you

canlogontothesystembyswipingyourngeroverthereaderonce.

Attention:Ifyoualwaysuseyourngerprinttologontothesystem,youmayforgetyourBIOSpassword.

Writedownyourpasswordandkeepitinasafeplace.Ifyouforgetyourpasswordandcannotswipeyour

nger,youcannotstartthecomputerorchangethepassword.Foroptimalperformance,enrollmore

thanonengerprint.

Ifyouforgetyourpower-onpassword,youmusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoservicerepresentative

tohavethepassworderased.

Ifyouforgetyourharddiskdrivepassword,Lenovowillnotresetyourpasswordorrecoverdatafromthe

harddiskdrive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoservicerepresentativetohavetheharddiskdrive

replaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafeewillbechargedforpartsandservice.

ChangingtheBIOSsettingsforthengerprintreader

Note:TheinformationinthistopicappliestocertainThinkPad

computermodelsonly.

TheFingerprintsubmenuundertheSecuritymenuoftheBIOSSetupUtilityprogramoffersthefollowing

choices:

•Predesktopauthentication:Enablesordisablesthengerprintauthenticationbeforetheoperating

systemisloaded.

•SecurityMode:Speciesthesettingsofthesecuritymode.

Tochangethesettingsofthengerprintreader,dothefollowing:

1.Printtheseinstructions.

2.Saveallopenlesandexitallapplications.

3.Turnoffthecomputerandthenturniton.

4.Whenthe“Tointerruptnormalstartup...”messageisdisplayedonthelowerleftsideofthewindow,

pressF1.TheBIOSSetupUtilitywindowopens.

5.Usingthecursorkeys,movetoSecurityandpressEnter.TheSecuritymenuopens.

6.Usingthecursorkeys,movetoFingerprintandpressEnter.TheFingerprintmenuopens.

8.Usingthecursorkeys,selectthesettingyouwanttouseandpressEnter.ANoticewindowisdisplayed,

9.PressEntertocontinue.

10.Usingthecursorkeys,makeotherngerprintsettingsdependingonyourneeds.

11.PressF10toexit.

12.IntheSetupConrmationwindow,selectYestosavecongurationchangesandexit.

EnrollingyourngerprintsforBIOSpasswords

ToenrollyourngerprintsforBIOSpasswords(power-onandharddiskdrivepasswords),dothefollowing:

1.Dependingonyouroperatingsystem,dooneofthefollowing:

•ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙ThinkVantage➙ThinkVantageFingerprintSoftware.The

ThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowopens.

•ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools.Then,double-clickFingerprint

Reader.TheThinkVantageFingerprintSoftwarewindowopens.

2.EnteryourWindowspasswordandclickSubmit.

3.Whenadialogwithtwohandsappears,selectangertoenrollbyclickingthecorrespondingWindows

buttonabovethenger.TheEnrollmentwindowopens.

4.Swipetheselectedngeroverthengerprintreaderonyourcomputer.Keepscanninguntiltheprogress

barreaches100%.Then,youwillreturntothedialogwithtwohandsandtherewillbeagreencircle

aroundtheimageofthengeryoujustenrolledandtheWindowsbuttonabovethengerishighlighted.

5.Dooneofthefollowingdependingonyouroperatingsystem:

•(Onlyifsupportedbyyourcomputer)APower-onbuttonisdisplayedaboveeachnger.Click

thePower-onbuttonabovetheselectednger.Theselectedngerwillbeusedinsteadofyour

power-onand/orharddiskdrivepasswordsatsystemstartup.

•ClickSettings.TheSettingswindowopens.Dothefollowing:

a.InthePower-onSecurityarea,selectUsengerprintscaninsteadofpower-onandhard

drivepasswords.

b.ClickOK.TherewillbeahighlightedPower-onbuttonabovetheimageofthengeryoujust

enrolled,indicatingthatyouhavesuccessfullyenrolledyourngerprintsforBIOSpasswords.

Thefollowingactionscoulddamagethengerprintreaderorcauseitnottoworkproperly:

•Scratchingthesurfaceofthereaderwithahard,pointedobject.

•Scrapingthesurfaceofthereaderwithyournailoranythinghard.

•Usingortouchingthereaderwithadirtynger.

Gentlycleanthesurfaceofthereaderwithadry,soft,lint-freeclothifyounoticeanyofthefollowing

conditions:

•Thesurfaceofthereaderisdirtyorstained.

•Thesurfaceofthereaderiswet.

•Thereaderoftenfailstoenrollorauthenticateyourngerprint.

Youmightnotbeabletoregisterorauthenticateitifyourngerhasanyofthefollowingconditions:

•Yourngeriswrinkled.

•Yourngerisrough,dry,orinjured.

•Yourngerisstainedwithdirt,mud,oroil.

•Thesurfaceofyourngerisverydifferentfromwhatitwaswhenyouenrolledyourngerprint.

•Yourngeriswet.

•Angerthathasnotbeenenrolledisused.

Tryusingthefollowingmethodsifyouhaveproblemsregisteringorauthenticatingangerprint:

•Cleanorwipeyourhandstoremoveanyexcessdirtormoisturefromthengers.

•Enrollanduseadifferentngerforauthentication.

•Ifyourhandsaretoodry,applylotiontothem.

Problem:TheThinkVantagebuttondoesnotworkcorrectly.

Solution:Ensurethatoneofthefollowingprogramsisinstalledonyourcomputer,ortheWindowssystem

informationwindowwillbedisplayedwhenyoupresstheThinkVantagebutton:

•ThinkVantageProductivityCenter

•LenovoCare

•LenovoThinkVantageToolbox

•LenovoSimpletap

•LenovoSolutionCenter

•LenovoDeviceExperience

Problem:Ipressabuttononce,butthecomputerrespondsasifIpressedittwice.

Solution:Dependingonyouroperatingsystem,adjustthekeyboardrepeatdelayorrepeatratesettings

bydoingoneofthefollowing:

•FortheWindowsXPorWindowsVistaoperatingsystem:

1.DependingonyourStartmenumode,clickStart➙ControlPanelorStart➙Settings➙Control

Panel.

2.DependingonyourControlPanelmode,clickordouble-clickKeyboard.

3.ClicktheSpeedtab.

4.MovetheRepeatdelayslidertoLongortheRepeatrateslidertoSlow.

5.ClickOK.

•FortheWindows7operatingsystem:

Problem:Thekeyboardandthengerprintreaderarenotfunctioningcorrectly.

Solution:YoumightneedtoconnectthekeyboardtoanotheravailableUSBconnectoronyourcomputer

andtryagain.

TochangetheUSBconnector,dothefollowing:

1.UnplugthekeyboardconnectorfromtheUSBconnector.

2.InsertthekeyboardconnectorintoadifferentUSBconnectoronthecomputer.

3.Theoperatingsystemwillidentifythekeyboardandthengerprintreaderwithitsplug-and-playfeature.

Note:ContactyourLenovoservicerepresentativeifthesituationcontinues.

Problem:TheThinkPadbuilt-inngerprintreaderdoesnotworkwhenaUSBFingerprintReaderisinstalled.

Solution:Thengerprintreadersoftwareonlyoperateswithonereader.WhenaUSBFingerprintReaderis

installed,thesoftwarerecognizesonlytheUSBFingerprintReaderandwillnotworkwiththeinternalone.
