STEP TWO: Clean the ND Filters
1. Using a 5/32” Allen key back out the stop screw for the ND fi lter arm so that the fi lter can swing out of the transport
casting toward the operator. ATTENTION: The arm can swing out fast and hit the top of the transport so be sure and
hold the arm before it swings out.
2. Inspect the ND fi lters (located on the swing out arm) for dirt. If there are no visible signs of dirt or contamination,
STOP. Swing the arm back into place and replace the Filter arm restrianing screw and transport cover. If dirt is

Use a fresh swab and wipe ONCE in one direction across the glass. If another wipe is needed then turn the swab
3. Using a swab, with a lens cloth wrapped around it, gently swab ONCE in one direction across the fi lter surface. Do
this on both sides. Turn swab over and repeat, swabbing ONCE in one direction. Dispose of the swab.
4. You will clean each of the four fi lter surfaces this way. The result should be clean surfaces with perhaps only a light
water mark on the surface. If not, use another clean swab and do it again.
5. Once cleaned with the cleaning cloth, use a clean dry swab and gently wipe away any remaining watermarks making
sure to wipe gently in one direction.
STEP THREE: Clean the Spin Motor Mirror
1. Inspect the spin motor mirror for dirt by rotating the mirror gently by hand. Depending on your model, there could be
two faces of a glass prism or a single 45-degree mirror. If there is no visible sign of dirt or contamination, STOP. If
dirt is evident, continue.
Rubbing back and forth may cause debris to scratch the mirror.
Use a fresh swab each time and swab once in one direction across the surface.
2. Using a swab, with a lens cloth wrapped around it, gently swab ONCE in one direction across the mirror’s surface.
Turn swab over and repeat, swabbing ONCE in one direction.
3. Use a clean swab to gently swab ONCE in one direction across the fi lter surface and gently wipe away any remaining
5. Do not attempt to remove or clean the lens assembly unless directed to by Technical Support. Experience has been
that the lens assembly is suffi ciently recessed and protected and cleaning is diffi cult.
Later units and units that have been fi eld retrofi tted may have a Lens Dust Cap Assembly mounted between the laser lens
and the ND Filter Arm. In this case, cleaning of the laser lens should NEVER be required.
STEP FOUR: Clean the Laser Lens
1. This lens is located on the right side across from the mirror prism and is recessed.
Using a swab, with a lens cloth wrapped around it, gently swab ONCE in one direction across the prism surface.
Turn swab over and repeat swabbing ONCE in one direction. Dispose of the swab.
2. Let all lens air dry briefl y.
1. Re-assemble in reverse order inserting the restraining screw and then replacing the transport cover. The bottom screw
on the transport cover can be tricky to align; angle it properly before screwing in. Be sure to return the transport
assembly back to the “home” position when fi nished.
2. Re-calibrate by printing a Density Group Test and fi nding the 58% tone to re-establish proper exposure.
3. Verify that the quality of the VM has been restored by imaging and processing a plate.
