use a memory card with your phone

Use a removable memory card with your
phone to store more music and pictures right
in your pocket!
2. Format a new memory card after you install
it in your phone. Your phone will prompt you if
the card needs to be formatted. To manually
format the card, press s > Settings.
3. Then select Initial Setup > Format
memory card.
Formatting erases all files on the card!
4. To save pictures on the memory card,
press s > Multimedia > Camera > Options >
Switch Storage > Memory card.
5. To view pictures stored on the memory
card, press s > Multimedia > Pictures > All
Pictures > Options > Switch Storage >
Memory card.

transfer music & other media to your phone
1. Install a memory card in your phone,
then connect your phone and PC using a
Motorola USB cable.
2. Use the My Computer window to find the
memory card (listed as Removable Device).
Drag and drop music, pictures, and other files
that you want to copy. When copying to the
memory card, copy pictures to
mobile/Pictures
(phone will only read pictures from this
folder). Music files can be copied anywhere
on the memory card.
3. When finished, use the Safely Remove
Hardware feature on your PC to safely
disconnect, then disconnect the USB cable.
play music on your phone

Press [ to open your music library.
Your phone can play these types of music
files: MP3, AAC, AMR, WAV, MIDI, and
iMelody.
2. Select All Songs, or choose a category
to see your music organized by playlist,
artist, album, or genre.
3. Scroll to a song and press s to play or
pause. To control music:
Ï next song; hold for fast forward
Î previous song; hold for rewind
Music Tips
If you receive a call while playing
music, the music pauses and you’ll be
prompted to answer or ignore the call.
The music starts up again after the call
ends.
The phone display and keypad lights
turn off while playing music to save
battery power. To turn these back on,
press any key or open/close the slider.
More Tips
To make sure you’re seeing all your music,
whether stored in phone memory or on the
memory card, press All Songs > Options
> Filter by > Storage Location > All.
To hide the music player so you can use
other phone features, press Options >
Hide.
To turn off the music player, press P.
create & manage playlists
1.
Press [ to open your music library.
2. Select Playlists. To play a playlist,
scroll to the playlist name and press
Options > Play.
3. To create a playlist, select Create new
playlist.
4. Select All Songs, or choose a
category to see your songs organized by
artist, album, or genre. Scroll to each
song you want to add and press s.
When done, press Ok.
5. Enter the playlist name and press Ok.
Playlist Tips
To add a song to a playlist while the song is
playing, press Options > Add to playlist.
To add a song from your music library to a
playlist, scroll to the playlist name and
press s > Options > Add songs.
To remove songs from a playlist, scroll to
the playlist name and press s. Scroll to the
song and press Options > Manage >
Remove.
To rename or delete a playlist, scroll to the
playlist name and press Options > Manage
> Rename or Delete.
use the FM radio
1. Insert a stereo headset into the
3.5 mm headset jack. The FM radio works
only when a headset is plugged in.
2. Press and hold [ to turn on the radio.
To scan stations, press Options > Scan.
To tune manually, press S or T.
To listen to the radio through the phone
speaker, press Options > Use Speaker.
To mute/unmute the sound, press
s.
3. To set radio stations, tune in to a
station, then press and hold a number
key 1-9.
To play a preset station, press its number,
or press W or X to scan for preset
stations.
Share Radio Stations with
FMShare
To share your favourite FM stations
with friends, press Options > Send
Station Info. A text message with
Listen to xx.x FM! opens. Press Send
to select recipients and send message.
When you receive a text message with
station information, open the message,
highlight the station number, and press
the centre key. This launches the radio
tuned to the station!
Radio Tips
To record radio clips, press Options >
Record. Press Stop to stop recording.
To specify where recorded clips are
stored, press Options > Switch Storage
> Phone Memory or Memory Card.
Recorded clips are stored in your music
library in the All Songs folder.
More Tips
To use the radio as an alarm, press s >
Tools > Alarm Clock > New Alarm. Set
Alarm Tone to FM Radio.
To turn off the radio, unplug the headset
or press O.
To hide the radio so you can use other
phone features, press Options >Back.
identify songs using song ID
This feature is network, SIM card, or subscription dependent and may not be available in all areas.
Contact your service provider for more information.
The optional Song ID feature identifies commercially recorded songs.
1. From the home screen, press s > Games
and Apps > Java > SongID. Place your phone
near the music speaker and press Listen.
2. The phone software listens and analyzes.
Note: If prompted to connect to the network,
press Yes or Ok.
3. If the song is found, the artist and song
title display. If prompted, you can buy the
song. .
manage your contacts
1.
To quickly store a number, enter the
number in the home screen and press Save.
2. Enter contact details and press Save.
Tip: You can store contacts on SIM card or
phone memory. SIM card contacts can only
have a name and phone number.
3. To call a contact, press s >
Phonebook from the home screen.
4. Scroll to the contact and press N.
Tip: To find a contact in the list, enter the first
letters of the name.
Phonebook Tips
To assign a quick dial number to a contact,
press s > Settings > Personalise >
Quick Dial. Assign a number key (1-9) to
the phone number. To call a quick dial
number, just press and hold the number
key from the home screen. Quick dial 1 is
usually reserved for calling your voicemail.
To send a contact, scroll to the contact and
press Options > Send Business Card.
More Tips
To edit a contact, scroll to the contact and
press Options > Edit. Scroll to the
information you want to change and press
s, or press Options > New to add new
information to the entry.
To copy SIM contacts to phone memory,
press s > Phonebook > Options >
Copy > All to Phone.

From the home screen, press s >
Messages > Create Message.
2. Enter your message. To insert a picture,
sound, or other object, press Options >
Insert. When ready to send, press Send.
3. Choose recipients. Scroll to each name
and press s so checkmark appears. When
finished, press Send.
4. To receive a text message, press View to
read it right away, or Ignore to read it later in
your inbox. Press s > Messages > Message

Set Up Text Input Modes
Press # to change text input mode when
entering text. Modes are primary,
secondary, numeric and symbol. Mode
icons appear at the top centre of the
screen while in text input mode.
To set primary and secondary modes,
press s > Input Setup > Primary or
Secondary Setup while in a message.

Punctuation - press 1
Capital letter - press 0
Numbers press # until you see the
text input mode indicator 12 at the top of
the message screen.

1. Press s > Multimedia > Camera to
launch the camera.
2. To take a picture, press s. Then press
Send to send it in a message, s to save it,
or Options to discard it.
3. For more control over your pictures, adjust
camera settings. Before taking a picture, press
Options.
4. Press Camera Setup to view or change
picture resolution and quality, shutter
sound, and display status icons.
5. Press Switch Storage to view/change
where pictures are stored.
Camera Tips
To zoom in and out and change the colour
style, lighting conditions, and exposure,
press
 until you see the setting you want to
change, then press Ï to change it.
To take a timed picture, press Options >
Auto-Timed Capture. Set the delay timer.
Set up the picture and press Start. Timer
counts down, then the picture is taken.
customise your phone

Personalise the look and feel of your
phone to make it truly unique to you! To
see all the things you can personalise,
press s > Settings > Personalise.
2. To change the home screen shortcut
keys, press Home Screen > Home Keys.
These let you quickly access features from
the home screen using the up, down, left,
and right navigation keys.
3. Scroll to the shortcut key you want to
change and select a new feature for it. To
see the shortcut icons on the home screen,
make sure Show Icons is set to Show.
4. To change the wallpaper, screen saver
or background colour on your phone,
select Wallpaper, Screen Saver, or
Colour Style from the Personalise menu.
5. To change the sound your phone makes
when you open and close the slider, select
Slide Tone from the Personalise menu
and select the tone or None.
6. To change your phone’s ring tone, press
s > Settings > Ring Styles. Select Detail
to customise the ring tone sound. Select
Style to set your phone to Silent or Vibrate
when you don’t want to hear it ring.
connect your phone to a Bluetooth
®
device
1.
If connecting to a Bluetooth device for the
first time, put the device in pairing mode (see
the product User’s Guide). On Motorola
headsets, such as the S9 stereo headset,
press and hold the power button until the
indicator light turns on and stays steadily lit.
2. On your phone, press s > Settings >
Bluetooth Link > Add Audio Device.
3. If you’re prompted to turn Bluetooth on,
press Yes. Your phone will list the devices it
finds. Scroll to the one you want to connect
to and press Select.
4. Follow the prompts to pair and connect with
the device. If prompted for a passkey, enter
0000 or 1234 for Motorola Bluetooth devices.
When your phone is connected, the Bluetooth
indicator
E appears in the top status bar.
Bluetooth Tips
To disconnect from a Bluetooth device
after you’re finished using it, turn off the
device.
Once you’ve paired to a Bluetooth device
for the first time, it’s easy to reconnect to
that same device the next time you want to
use it. Just turn on the device and you’re
connected.
More Tips
If you have trouble reconnecting to a
device you used before, make sure your
phone’s Bluetooth power is turned on.

Settings > Bluetooth Link > Setup.
Power On should be checked.
To extend battery life, turn off Bluetooth
power when you’re not using a Bluetooth
device.
