1 Safety Informaon

Please read carefully the following user manual and the safety instrucons before installing the UPS or using the

UPS! Please comply with all warnings and operang instrucons in this manual. Save this manual and read care-

fully the following instrucons before installing the unit. Do not operate this unit before reading through all safety

informaon and operang instrucons carefully.

1.1 Transportaon and Storage

• Please transport the UPS system only in the original packaging to protect against shock and impact.

• The UPS must be stored in a room where it is venlated and dry.

1.2 Preparaon

• Condensaon may occur if the UPS system is moved directly from cold to warm environments. The UPS

system must be absolutely dry before being installed. Please allow at least two hours for the UPS system

to acclimate to the environment.

• Do not install the UPS system near water or in moist environments.

• Do not install the UPS system where it would be exposed to direct sunlight or nearby heaters.

• Do not block venlaon holes in the UPS housing.

1.3 Installaon

• Do not connect appliances or devices which would overload the UPS (e.g. motor-type equip-

ment) to the UPS output receptacles or terminal.

• Place cables in such a way that no one can step on or trip over them.

• Do not block air vents in the housing of the system components. The UPS system must be in-

stalled in a locaon with good venlaon. Ensure enough space on each side for venlaon.

• UPS has provided a ground terminal for equipotenal earth bonding to the external UPS baery

cabinets in the nal installed system conguraon.

• The UPS can be installed only by qualied maintenance personnel.

• An appropriate disconnect device for short-circuit backup protecon should be provided in the

building wiring installaon, upstream of the UPS.

• An integral single emergency switching device which prevents further supply to the load by the

UPS in any mode of operaon should be provided in the building wiring installaon.

• Connect the ground before connecng to the building wiring terminal.

• Installaon and wiring must be performed in accordance with the local electrical laws and regu-

laons.

1.4 Connecon

• This UPS must be installed and grounded in accordance with local and naonal electrical code.

• The power supply for this unit must be single-phase rated in accordance with the equipment

nameplate. It also must be suitably grounded.

• Use of this equipment in life support applicaons where failure of this equipment can reason-

ably be expected to cause the failure of the life support equipment or to signicantly aect its

safety or eecve-ness is not recommended. Do not use this equipment in the presence of a

ammable anesthec mixture with air, oxygen or nitrous oxide.

• Connect your UPS power module’s grounding terminal to a grounding electrode conductor.

• The UPS is connected to a DC energy source (baery). The output terminals may be live when

the UPS is not connected to an AC supply.

• Warning labels should be placed on all primary power switches installed in places away from

the device to alert the electrical maintenance personnel of the presence of a UPS in the circuit.

The label will bear the following or an equivalent text:

1.5 Maintenance

• Do not try to repair the unit yourself, contact your local supplier or your warranty will be void.

• The following PRECAUTIONS should be observed:

o Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects.

o Use tools with insulated handles.

o Wear rubber gloves and boots.

o Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of baeries or baery cabinets.

o Disconnect the charging source prior to connecng or disconnecng terminal.

o Check to see if the baery is inadvertently grounded. If it is, remove the source of

grounding. Contacng with any part of the ground might result in electrical shock. The

likelihood of such shock can be prevented if such grounds are removed during installaon

and maintenance.

• UPS is designed to supply power even when disconnected from the ulity power. Aer discon-

nect the ulity and DC power, authorized service personnel should aempt internal access to the

UPS.

• Do not disconnect the baeries while the UPS is in Baery mode.

• Disconnect the charging source prior to connecng or disconnecng terminals.

• Baeries can result in a risk of electrical shock or burn from high short circuit current.

• When replacing baeries, use the same number of sealed, lead-acid baeries.

• Do not open or mulate the baery. Released electrolytes are harmful to the skin and eyes, and

may be toxic.

• The baery will discharge naturally if the system is unused for a period of me and should be

recharged every 2-3 months if unused. During normal operaon the baeries will be charged.

• Servicing of baeries should be performed or supervised by trained personnel with knowledge

of baeries and the required precauons.

• When replacing baeries, it is necessary to replace ALL baeries with the same quanty, type

& capacity.

CAUTION

Do not open or mulate the baeries. The electrolyte from the baeries is toxic and harmful to the skin and

eyes. Risk of Electric Shock –Hazardous voltage may exist between baery terminals and ground. A baery can

present a risk of electrical shock and high short circuit current.

1.6 Recycling the Used Baery

• Do not dispose of the baery in a re. Baery may explode. Proper disposal of baery is required.

Refer to your local codes for disposal requirements.

• Do not open or mulate the baery. Released electrolyte is harmful to the skin and eyes. It may be

toxic.

• Do not discard the UPS or the UPS baeries in the trash. This product contains sealed, lead-acid

baeries and must be disposed properly. For more informaon, contact your local recycling/reuse or

hazardous waste center.

1.7 Operaon

• Do not disconnect the ground conductor cable on the UPS or the building wiring terminals in any me

since this would cancel the protecve ground of the UPS system and of all connected loads.

• The UPS system features its own, internal current source (baeries). The UPS output receptacles or

output terminal blocks may be electrically live even if the UPS system is not connected to the building

wiring system.

• In order to fully disconnect the UPS system, rst press the “OFF” buon and then disconnect the

mains.

• Ensure that no liquid or other foreign objects can enter into the UPS system.

• The UPS can be operated by any individuals with no previous experience.

2 Installaon

2.1 Unpacking and Inspecon

Unpack the package and check the package contents. The shipping package contains:

• UPS

• User manual

• Front mount brackets and screws

• Viewpower monitoring soware CD

• RS-232 cable

• USB cable

• Tower Mounng Feet

Unpack the Baery Pack and check the package contents. The shipping package contains:

• Baery Pack

• User manual

• Front mount brackets and screws

• DC Connecon Cable

Unpack the IT60A Isolaon Transformer and check the package contents. The shipping package contains:

• Isolaon Transformer

• User manual

• Front mount brackets and screws

Unpack the XBDM-P91A or XBDM-P91B and check the package contents. The shipping package contains:

• XBDM

• (2) “L” mounng brackets and screws

NOTE: Before installaon, please inspect the system components. Be sure that nothing inside the package was

damaged during transportaon. Do not turn on the UPS system and nofy the carrier and dealer immediately if

there is any damage or missing parts. Please keep the original packaging in a safe place for future use.

2.2 Selecng Installaon Posion

It is necessary to select a proper environment to install the unit, in order to minimize the possibility of damage to

the baery pack and extend the life of the baeries. Please follow the instrucons below:

• Keep at least 20cm (8 inches) clearance from the rear panel of the unit to the wall or other obstruc-

ons.

• Do not block the air-ow to the venlaon openings of the unit.

• Please ensure the installaon site environmental condions are in accordance with the unit’s working

specicaons to avoid overheang and excessive moisture.

• Do not place the unit in a dusty or corrosive environment or near any ammable objects.

• This UPS system is not designed for outdoor use.

2.2.1 XBDM Introducon

The product is used as an external power distribuon unit in conjuncon with UPS systems or large-scale voltage

regulators. It allows to manually transfer the connected equipment to ulity power via a bypass switch, permit-

ng scheduled maintenance or UPS replacement without power interrupon. Combined power distribuon

feature and the master-controlled design, it provides maintenance bypass funcon and power saving within a

rack mechanism.

2.2.2 Installaon of XBDM

Unpacking and Inspecon

Unpack the package and check the package contents. The shipping package contains:

• Maintenance bypass switch module x 1

• Quick guide x 1

• Mains power cord x 1

• Screws and mounng ears

NOTE: Before installaon, please inspect the unit. Be sure that nothing inside the

package is damaged during transportaon. Do not turn on the unit and nofy the

carrier and dealer immediately if there is any damage or lacking of some parts.

Please keep the original package in a safe place for future use.

Inial Setup

The Installaon and wiring must be performed in accordance with the local electric laws/regulaons and execute

the following instrucons by professional personnel.

1) Make sure the mains wire and breakers in the building are enough for the rated

capacity of UPS to avoid the hazards of electric shock or re.

NOTE: Do not use the wall receptacle as the input power source for the UPS, as its

rated current is less than the UPS’s maximum input current. Otherwise, the receptacle may be burned and de-

stroyed.

2) Switch o the mains switch in the building before installaon.

3) Turn o and shut down the connected UPS.

4) Prepare wires based on the following table:

NOTE 1: The cable for 10K should be able to withstand over 63A current. It is recommended to use 8AWG or thicker

wire for safety and eciency.

NOTE 2: The selecons for color of wires should be followed by the local electrical laws and regulaons.

5) Remove the terminal block cover on the rear panel of the module. Then connect the wires according to

the following terminal block diagrams:

Connect to the AC INPUT AND UPS

Plug the input power cord of the unit to the AC INPUT. Connect a power cord from UPS input to UPS input socket

on the unit. Use one power cord to connect UPS output to UPS output socket on the unit.

2.2.3 XBDM Operaon

Transfer to Maintenance Bypass

To transfer to maintenance bypass from UPS, follow the below steps:

Step 1: Press “OFF” buon of UPS unit to transfer to bypass mode.

Step 2: Open the maintenance switch door. If step 1 is not executed rst, then UPS unit will transfer to bypass

mode automacally with control output signal connecon when opening the maintenance switch door.

Step 3: Transfer rotary switch to “BPS” posion and switch o UPS input breaker on the module. Then, all devices

are directly powered by ulity and there is no current through the UPS. The output and input of UPS are isolated

from the system. You may now service or maintain the UPS by shung down the baeries of UPS.

Transfer to UPS Protecon

Aer maintenance service is done, follow below steps to transfer back to UPS operaon.

Step 1: Switch on the input breaker of the module and reconnect UPS baery input breaker. Then UPS will enter

to bypass mode.

Step 2: Transfer rotary switch to “UPS” posion. Then, all devices are powered by ulity through UPS bypass

mode.

Step 3: Close back maintenance switch door and press “ON” buon of UPS unit. Then, all devices are protected

by the UPS.

NOTE: If maintenance will be executed in another place, before removing the UPS and the module, please follow

steps of “Transfer to Maintenance Bypass” and then disconnect all wires between UPS and the module for com-

plete isolaon.

2.3 Tower Installaon

The UPS system is shipped with two sets of feet and 6 extensions (2 short extensions plus 4 long extensions) that

can be used to tower install the UPS module in baery pack.

Install UPS module

Assemble two feet and one short extension as one tower stand shown in step 1. Align the two stands approxi-

mately 14in apart in step 2. Then, put UPS module in the stands as shown in step 3.

mately 35cm apart in step 2. Then, put UPS module and baery bank in the stands as shown in step 3.

2.4 Rack Installaon

Please follow below steps to mount UPS into 19” rack or rack enclosure.

Step 1: Aach mounng ears to the side mounng holes of UPS using the screws provided and the ears should

face forward.

Step 2: Install the oponal rack rail kits into the rack to support the UPS, Iso transformer module, and

Baery Pack (one rail kit required for each piece).

Step 2: Li the UPS module and slide it into rack enclosure. Aach the UPS module to the rack with

screws, nuts and washers (user-provided) through its mounng ears and into the rack rails.

Step 4: Install the IT60A Iso Transformer module (if included) in the rack directly below the UPS, dupli-

cang the UPS module instrucons above

Step 5: Mount the XBDM-P91A or XBDM-P91B (if included) to the rear of the 1st external baery pack,

using the included mounng bracket and screws.

Step 6: Install the External Baery Pack into the rack directly below the Iso Transformer module (if

included), or directly below the UPS if the Iso Transformer module is not included. duplicang the UPS

These baery packs have been designed to operate with the following types of baeries:

2U baery pack: 240V/5Ah Version, 20 pieces of 12V 5Ah baeries

3U baery pack: 240V/580W Version, 20 pieces of 12V 580W baeries

2.6 Storage & Maintenance

The unit contains no user-serviceable parts. If the baery service life (3~5 years at 25°C ambient

temperature) has been exceeded, the baeries must be replaced. In this case, please contact your dealer.

Storage

Before storing, charge the unit 4 hours. Store the unit covered and upright in a cool, dry locaon. During storage,

recharge the baery in accordance with the following table:

2.7 UPS Electrical Connecons/Installaon

Installaon and wiring must be performed in accordance with the local electric laws/regulaons and the follow-

ing instrucons must be performed by qualied personnel

1. Make sure the mains wire and breakers in the building are sized for the rated capacity of UPS

to avoid the hazards of electric shock or re.

2. Switch o the mains switch in the building before installaon.

3. Turn o all the connected devices before connecng to the UPS.

4. Prepare wiring based on the following table:

5. Remove the terminal block cover on the rear panel of UPS, connect the ground wire rst, then con-

nect the wires according to the following terminal block diagram: (Disconnect the ground wire last when

making wire disconnecon)

6. After connecting the wires, replace the terminal block cover on the rear panel of the UPS.

7. Ensure that the battery pack breaker is in the “OFF” position. Then connect the battery pack cable to

the battery pack connector on the rear of the UPS. For additional battery packs, plug the battery pack

cable into the empty connector on the rear of the previous battery pack

8. On the IT-60A Iso Transformer module, place the red switch in correct position. 208 for 208V

installations and 240 for 240V installations. (Refer to figure 2-4)

9. Plug the power cord for the IT60A iso transformer module (if supplied) into one of the L6-30R

receptacles on the XBDM-91A or XBDM-91B. (Refer to Figure 2-5)

10. Connect the External maintenance bypass switch wire on the XBDM-P91 to the External maintenance

bypass switch port on the UPS. (Refer to figures 2-5 and 2-1)

NOTE 1: Make sure all wires are connected securely.

NOTE 2: Please install the output over current protection breaker between the output terminal and the load on

hardwired systems. The breaker should be qualified with leakage current protective function if necessary.

Warning:

For standard baery pack, there is one DC breaker to disconnect the baery pack and the UPS. Switch o the

baery breaker before installaon. Make sure the ulity input & output wiring, is correct. The wire current spec,

color, posion, connecon and conductance reliability should be in accordance with local and naonal electrical

code.

Soware Installaon

For opmal computer system protecon, install UPS monitoring soware to fully congure UPS shutdown. Refer

to Viewpower CD.

3.1 User Interface

3.1.1 Buon Operaon

Buon Funcon

ON/Enter Buon Turn on the UPS: Press and hold the buon more than 0.5s to turn on the UPS.

Enter Key: Press this buon to conrm the selecon in seng menu.

OFF/ESC Buon Turn o the UPS: Press and hold the buon more than 0.5s to turn o the UPS.

Esc key: Press this buon to return to last menu in seng menu.

Test/Up Buon Test/Up Buon Baery test: Press and hold the buon more than 0.5s to test the bat-

tery while in AC mode, or CVCF mode.

UP key: Press this buon to display next selecon in seng menu.

Mute/Down Buon Mute the alarm: Press and hold the buon more than 0.5s to mute the buzzer. Please

refer to secon 3-4-9 for details.

Down key: Press this buon to display previous selecon in seng menu.

Test/Up + Mute/

Down Buon

Press and hold the two buons simultaneously for more than 1s to

enter/escape the seng menu.

If parallel UPS systems are successfully set up, it will show one more screen with “PAR” in parameter 2 and be as-

signed number in parameter 3 as below parallel screen diagram. The master UPS will be default assigned as “001”

and slave UPSs will be assigned as either “002” or “003”. The assigned numbers may be changed dynamically in

the operaon.

Uninterrupble Power Supply

Operang mode/status

AC mode

Descripton

When the input voltage is within acceptable range, UPS will provide pure

and stable AC power to output. The UPS will also charge the baery at AC

mode.

ECO mode

Descripon

When the input voltage is within voltage regulaon range and ECO mode is

enabled, UPS will bypass voltage to output for energy saving.

CVCF mode

Descripon

When input frequency is within 46 to 64Hz, the UPS can be set at a con-

stant output frequency, 50 Hz or 60 Hz. The UPS will sll charge baery

under this mode.

Baery mode

Descripon

When the input voltage is beyond the acceptable range or power failure,

UPS will backup power from baery and alarm will beep every 4 seconds.

Bypass mode

Descripon

When input voltage is within acceptable range and bypass is enabled, turn

o the UPS and it will enter Bypass mode. Alarm beeps every two minutes.

Baery Test Descripon

When UPS is in AC mode or CVCF mode, press “Test” buon for more

than 0.5s. Then the UPS will beep once and start “Baery Test”. The line

between I/P and inverter icons will blink to remind users. This operaon is

used to check the baery status.
