ThankyoufororderingandusingThinkServerRemoteManagementModule,hereinafterreferredtoas
RemoteManagementModule.
TheUserGuidedescribeshowtousetheRemoteManagementModule,theoverviewofthemodulefeatures
andhowtosetupandoperatethemodule.
TheUserGuideisforsystemadministratorsresponsibleforinstallation,troubleshooting,upgradeand
maintenanceoftheRemoteManagementModule.Asasystemadministrator,onceyouarefamiliarwith

Dangeroussituations,equipmentandcables:Power,telephonesandsignalcablesmayhavethe
dangerofelectricshock.Beforeopeningthedevice,shutdowntheserver,disconnectedthepowercord,
thecommunicationsystem,networkandmodemconnectedtotheserver.Otherwise,itmayresultin
personalinjuryorequipmentdamage.

ESDandholdingsystemboards:Becarefulwhenholdingthesystemboard.Theyareextremely
sensitivetoESD.Onlytouchtheedgewhenholdingthesystemboard.Laythesystemboardwith
componentssidefacingupwardsaftertakingthesystemboardoutoftheprotectionbagorthesever.
Usetheconductivefoampad(ifany)ratherthanthesystemboardpackage.Donotslidethesystem
boardonanysurface.
Installingorremovingjumper:Jumperisasmallplasticconductorbetweentwojumperpins.
Somejumpershaveasmallwingonthetopforyoutousengertipsorneneedleforcepstoclipit.If
thejumperhasnosuchwing,becarefulwheninstallingorremovingitwithneedleforceps,andclipthe
jumper'snarrowfaceinsteadofthewideone.Clippingthewidefacewilldamagethecontactsinsidethe
jumper,whichwillleadtointermittentfaultstosomefunctionscontrolledbythejumper.Clipthejumper
carefullywithpliersorothertoolsanddonotsqueezewhenremovingit.Otherwise,pinsonthesystem
boardmaybebentorbroken.

TheRemoteManagementModulerunsontheserversystemasanintegratedsolutionandintegrates
theembeddedoperatingsystem.Independentoftheserveroperatingsystem,theembeddedoperating
systemcanprovideawholesetofcomplete,stableandeffectivesolutionfortheserver.Asasystem
administrator,youcanrespondanytimeandanywheretoemergencyfailureandtakeremotecontrolon
theserverthroughthenetwork.

Whentheremoteconsoleisstartup,anewwindowwillbeopened,showingthescreenofthehostsystem.
Operatingtheremoteconsoleisjustlikeanadministratorissittinginfrontofthescreenoftheremote
system.Thismeansthattheusercanusethekeyboardandmouseasheusuallydoes.
StartRedirectionConsole
Theremoteconsoleistheredirectionkeyboard,videoandmouseoftheremotehostsystem(theThinkServer
RemoteManagementModulehasbeeninstalledonit).YoucanclickRemoteConsoleinthispagetostart

managementforserver.

delaybetweentheThinkServerRemoteManagementModuleandtheremoteconsole.

Thereisamenubaronthetopoftheremoteconsolewindow.Youcanviewthestatusoftheremoteconsole
andcongurethesetupforlocalremoteconsolethroughtheitemsonthemenubar.
