Hardwire Kit Accessory Kit
For Use With
Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner
Installation Instructions
INTRODUCTION
These instructions cover the installation of the Hardwire Accessory Kit. This Accessory Kit permanently connects a
packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC) to a power source.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Installing and servicing air-conditioning equipment can be hazardous due to system pressures and electrical
components. Only trained and qualified personnel should install or service air-conditioning equipment. When
working on air-conditioning equipment, observe the precautions provided in literature, tags, and labels attached
to the unit.
Follow all safety codes. Wear safety glasses, protective clothing, and work gloves. Have fire extinguisher available.
Read these instructions thoroughly and follow all warnings or cautions included in literature and attached to the
unit. Consult local building codes and current editions of the National Electrical Code (NEC) NFPA 70. In Canada,
refer to current editions of the Canadian electrical code CSA 22.1.
Recognize safety information. This is the safety-alert symbol . When you see this symbol on the unit and in
instructions or manuals, be alert to the potential for personal injury.
Understand these signal words: DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION. These words are used with the safety-alert
symbol. DANGER identifies the most serious hazards which will result in severe personal injury or death.
WARNING signifies hazards which could result in personal injury or death. CAUTION is used to identify unsafe
practices which may result in minor personal injury or product and property damage. NOTE is used to highlight
suggestions which will result in enhanced installation, reliability, or operation.

GENERAL
The Hardwire Accessory Kit can be field installed to permanently connect a packaged terminal air conditioner
(PTAC) unit to a power source. This kit can be used for both 208/230-v and 265-v applications at 15, 20 and 30
amps. See Fig. 1 for Hardwire Accessory Kit package contents.

INSTALLATION
All wiring must comply with ALL NEC requirements and local electrical codes.
Step 1 Disconnect all power to unit.
Step 2 — Remove front panel from unit by grasping the panel firmly at
the center top and center bottom, then pull the panel out at the
bottom to release the latches and up to clear the rail along the top.
Step 3 — Remove power cord from Strain Relief. Leave strain relief and
both screws installed. See Fig. 2.
Step 4 — Remove (1) Keypad screw and save. Then carefully lift keypad
up and out to remove from sheet metal. Carefully move keypad to the
side, this will provide access to one of the five control box screws. See
Fig. 2.
Step 5 — Open control box by removing five (5) screws. Save screws.

Step 6 —Fold open control box. See Fig. 3
NOTE: Write down wire color and location where power cord wires
are attached, including the Green Ground wire. This is for
later use when attaching wires from the Hardwire Kit.
Step 7 —Remove power cord from internal strain relief. Then
disconnect power cord wires from terminal block and ground screw.
Save Ground screw. See Fig 4
Step 8 — Remove the knock-out on the control box side panel.
See Fig 5.
Step 9 — Separate the connector on the Hardwire kit and install wires where the power cord was installed. Refer
to Figs. 4 and 6 and make the following wiring connections in the control box:
Connect Black wire to where the Black wire of power cord was originally connected.
Connect White or Red wire to where the White or Red wire of power cord was originally connected.
Connect Green wire to where the Ground wire of power cord was originally connected.
Step 10 - Route the Hardwire Connector out through the knock out hole. See Fig 6.
Step 11 — Re-verify all power is disconnected. Connect the Hardwire assembly wires to power source. Make
connections with properly sized butt splices or wire nuts (field supplied). See Fig. 7.

Step 12 — Close control box and secure using screws removed earlier.
Step 13 — Plug together the connector (male and female) and push the
connector and excess wiring into the control box through the knock-out hole.
Step 14— Attach the access cover and conduit assembly to the control box
using the screws provided. See Fig. 8.
NOTE: The 90 degree connector and access cover provided with the kit must
be used for proper installation to meet NEC (National Electrical Code) and local
electrical codes.
Step 15 Replace Keypad and secure using screw saved earlier.
Step 16 Replace the unit front panel and restore power to unit.
