Safety Instructions
1. Before returning an instrument to the customer, always ma ke a safety check of the entire instrument, including, but not limited
to, the following items:
a) Be sure that no built-in protective devices are defective and/or have been defeated during servicing. (1) Protective shields
are provided on this chassis to protect both the technician and the customer. Co rrectly replace all m issing protective shields,
including any rem oved for servicing convenience. (2) W hen reinstalling the chassis and/or o ther assem b ly in the cabinet,
be sur e to put b ack in p lace all protective devices, including, but not limited to, insulating materials, barriers, covers/shields,
and isolation resistor/capacitor networks. Do not ope rate this instrument or perm it it to be operated without all protective
devices correctly installed and functioning. Servicers who defeat safety features or fail to perform safety checks may be
liable for any resulting da mage.
b) Be su re that there are no cabinet openings through which an adult or child m ight be able to insert their ngers and contact a
hazardous voltage. Such openings include, but are not limited to, (1) excessively wide cab inet v
entilation slots, and (2) an
improperly tted and/or incorrectly secured cover panels.
c) Leakage Current Hot Check. With the instrument completely reassembled, plug the A C line c ord directly into a 220 V A C
outlet (Do not use an isolation transformer during this test). Use a leaka ge current tester or a m etering system that com plies
with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) C101.0 Leakage Current for Applianc es and Underwriters Laboratories
(UL) 1410, (50.7). With the instrum ent AC switch rst in t he on position and then in the off position, measure from a known
earth ground (m etal waterpipe, conduit, etc.) to all exposed metal pa rts of the instrument (antennas, handle bracket, metal
cabinet, screwheads, metallic ov erlays, control shafts, etc.). especially any ex posed m etal parts that offer an electrical
return path to the c hassis. A ny current measu red must not exceed 3 .5 mA. Reverse the instrument power c ord plug in the
outlet and repeat test. ANY M EASUR EM ENTS NOT WITHIN T HE LIMITS SPECIFIED HEREIN INDICAT E A POTENTIAL
SHOCK HAZARD THAT M US T BE ELIMINATED BEFORE R ETURNING THE INSTRUMENT TO THE CUSTOMER OR
BEFORE CON NECTING ACCES SORIES.

d) Ultraviolet Radiation exposure - Warning: Th is lamp can cause serious skin burn and eye inam m ation from shortwave
ultraviolet radiation if n
ot operated in enclosed xtures. DO NO T operate this lamp in a xture w ith a missing or broken lens
cover.
e) Ozone: Operating lamp ge nerates ozone gas which is harmful to the respiratory system. Therefore the lamp should be
operated in adequately ventilated equipm ent.
2. Read and comply w ith all caution and safety-related notes on or inside the projector cabinet or on the projector chas sis, or on
the picture tube.
3. Design Alteration Warning - Do not alter or add to the m echanical or electrical design of this apparatus. D esign alterations and
additions, including, but n ot limited to, circuit modications and the addition of items s uch as auxiliary audio and/or video o utput
connections, might alter the safety characteristics of this apparatus a n d create a hazard to the user. Any design alterations
or additions m ay void the manufacturer ’s warranty and may make yo u, the servicer responsible for personal injury or property
damage resulting therefrom.
4. Lam p explosion Protection Warning The lamp in this pr ojector operates with a high internal pressure and there is a slight risk
that the lamp may e
xplode, particularly if it is used beyond its rated life. Do not rem ove, install, or otherwise handle t he lamp
in any manner without rst putting on shatterproof goggles equipped with side shields. People not s o equipped m ust be kept
safely away while lamps are handled. K eep the lamp away from you r body. For continued explosion pr otection, r eplace the
lamp only with o
ne of the same type number. A lways replace the lamp before the rated life time.

1. Safety guidelines
5. Hot Chassis Warning - This projector chassis has two g round systems: the primary ground system is formed by the negative
voltage o f the rectied mains (power) and is only used as a reference in primary circuits; the secondary ground sy stem is
connected to earth gr ound via the earth conductor in the mains (power) lead. Separation between primary and secondary
circuits is performed by the safety isolation transformers. Components bridging this transformers are also safety components
and mu st never be defeated or altercated. All user-accessible co nductive parts must be connected to earth gr ound, or are kept
at SELV (Safety Ex tra Low Voltage).
6. O bserve original lead dress. Always inspect in all areas for pinche d, out-of-face, or frayed wiring. Do not change spa cing
between compone nts, and between components and the printed-circuit b oard. Check AC pow er cord for damage. Take extra
care to assure correct lead dress in the following areas:
a) near sharp edges
b) near thermally hot parts - be sure that leads and components do not touch thermally hot parts
c) the A C supply
d) high v oltage
7. Com ponents, parts, and/or wiring that appear to have overheated or are otherwise damaged should be replaced with compo-
nents, parts, or wiring that me et original specications. Additionally, determine the cause of overheating and/or damage and, if
necessary, take corrective ac tion to remove any potential safety hazard.
8. PR OD UCT SAFET Y NO T ICE - Many electrical and mechanical parts have special safety-related c haracteristics s ome of w hich
are often not evident from visual inspection, nor c an the protection they give necessarily be obtain
ed by replacing them with
components rated for higher voltage, wattage, etc. Use of a substitute replacement that doe s not have the s ame safety charac-
teristics as the recom m ended replacement part in BARCO service data parts list might create s hock , re, and/or other hazards.
Product Safety is under review continuously and new instructions are issued whenever approp
riate. For the latest information,
always consult the appropriate current BA RCO service literature.
9. Do not spray che mical on or near this instrument or any of its assemblies.
10. Electrostatically S ensitive (ES) D evices Some semiconductor (solid state) devices c an be damaged easily by static elec tricity.
Such compo nents commonly are c alled E lectrostatically Sens itive (ES) D evices. E xam ples of typical ES devices ar e integrated
circuits and some eld-effect transistors and sem iconductor "chip" c omponen ts. The following techniques should be used to
help reduce t he incidence of component damage caused by static elec tricity:
a) Immediately before handling any semiconductor-equipped ass embly, drain off any electrostatic charge on your body by
touching a known earth gr ound. Wear a comm ercially available h igh impedance dis charging wris t strap device.
b) After removing an electrical assembly equipped with ES devices , pla
ce the assembly on a static dis sipative s urface such as
a 3M No 8210 table m at, to prevent electrostatic charge buildup or exposure of the assembly.
c) Do not use freon-propelled chemicals. These can generate electrical charges sufcient to damage ES dev ices.
d) Do not remove a replacement E S device from its protective package until immediately before you are ready to install it
(Most replacem ent ES devices are packaged with leads electrically shorted together by conductive foam, a luminium foil or
comparable condu ctive material).
e) Immediately before removing the protective material from the leads of a replacement ES device, touch the protective material
to the chassis or circuit assembly into which the device w ill be installed. CA UT ION: B e sure n o power is applied to the chassis
or circuit, and observe all other safety precautions.
