When Collating Fewer Than 12 Pages

Whenever you have empty bins during collating,

you can disengage the Locking Levers (h, Figs. 4

& 5). By doing so, the pusher cylinder is con-

verted into a roller, thereby prolonging its life.

To Disengage

Place thumb on rear of Pusher Arm (g, Fig. 4).

Pull back on the lip on Locking Lever (h, Figs. 4

& 5).

To Re-Engage

Place index finger on front edge of Pusher Arm

(g, Fig. 4). Push Locking Lever (h, Figs. 4 & 5)

against Rubber Roller thereby locking in a sta-

tionary position.

OPTIONAL: How to Use the V-Tray as

a Holder

Martin Yale offers a V-Tray which may be used to

facilitate stacking of collated sheets in crisscross-

ing positions.

Model 6120 has been engineered to provide trou-

ble-free use with minimal maintenance. If prob-

Instructions

The Martin Yale Model 6120 Electric Collator

is a lightweight, easy to use collator that pro-

vides all the advantages of high speed pro-

fessional collating in a compact, attractive

unit that’s equally at home in a general office

area, a copy/duplicating center, a print shop

or a school.

The Model 6120 offers a capacity of 12 bins,

which are arranged in two side-by-side tiers

of six bins each. The Model 6120 is a desk

top collator that permits the collating of multi-

page reports, bulletins, contracts, newslet

ters and the like at the rate of 21 complete

12-page sets per minute.

The Martin Yale Electric Collator can operate

automatically at one set speed, (21 cycles

per minute), feeding one set of copies every

three seconds. Or, the operator can run the

machine in a self-paced mode by the use of

a Foot Pedal.

(f) PUSHERS

What you see in the rear view photo (Fig. 4) are

the Pusher assemblies. An actual Pusher ele-

ment is shown more clearly in the photo below.

Note that the Pusher is held in a rigid position by

the Locking Lever (h, Fig. 5). As the 12 Pusher

arms (g, Fig. 4) move forward in their bins, the

Pushers move forward with them. The Pushers

cannot roll over the sheets; they have been

designed to apply exactly enough weight and

traction to push out one and only one sheet at a

time.

connected to the motor.

(h) LOCKING LEVERS (Shown in both the

Rear View photo, Fig. 4, and in Fig. 5.) These

levers hold the pushers in a non-rolling position

to enable them to push copy sheets forward and

out of their bins.

OPERATION

How To Load

1. Turn the power switch (b, Fig. 1) to the OFF

position. (NOTE: This is the center position.

The light should be off.)

2. Push the Loading Lever (c, Fig. 1) down. This

raises the Pushers (f, Fig. 4) clearing the bins

for loading.

3. Load each bin with its proper set of page

copies. Make sure each page is facing in the

correct direction.

4. Release the Loading Lever (c

, Fig. 1). Do this

by squeezing the two Release Buttons on

both sides of the lever (d, Fig.2).

How To Collate

Turn the machine on by depressing the power

switch, (up for Automatic mode or down for

Foot Pedal mode), whichever is desired.

If the Collator is being operated in the

Automatic mode, it will begin feeding up to 21

sets per minute. This gives you sufficient time

to gather up copies and begin stacking. In the

Foot Pedal mode, this pace is set by the oper

ator.

Remove sheets with both hands, using a

sweeping motion from the bottom side

upward (see Fig. 6).

NOTE: Retraction Feature. Model 6120 has

been designed to insure that while sheets will

be pushed far enough out of their bins to

make it easy for the operator to gather them

up, the Pushers will not permit them to fall

out of the machine; instead it will retract

missed sheets back into their bins. This

additional safeguard makes this collator very

easy to operate. If you are not able to gather

copies in one pass, the machine will simply

draw them back into the bins and push them

out again three seconds later.

PAPER QUALITY

The Model 6120 is designed for use with 13 lb.-

110 lb. non-coated bond. This Model is not

designed to feed carbonless paper or high gloss

paper.

PAPER SIZE

Model 6120 is designed to accept paper sizes of

8 1/2” by 11” to 8 1/2” by 14” (legal size).

CAPACITY

The Model 6120 will process over 15,000 sheets

per hour - or 1,250 sets of 12.

FEATURES

FRONT VIEW

(a) BIN RACK

There are two side-by-side tiers of six bins each.

Load copies to be collated, the first page into a-

1 (Fig. 1), the second into a-2 (Fig. 1) and so

forth. Note that the bins are canted downward to

the rear to prevent random spillage. Each bin

has a capacity of 175 sheet of 16 lb. bond.

(b) POWER SWITCH

This switch (Fig. 1) may be operated in two

modes:

1. AUTOMATIC. Depressing the top part of the

switch puts the Model 6120 on automatic,

feeding 21 cycles per minute.

2. FOOT PEDAL. Depressing the bottom part

of the switch puts the machine in the Foot

Pedal mode. The machine will not operate

until the Foot Pedal is touched.

To turn the machine off, return the power switch

to the center OFF position.

NOTE: The Foot Pedal position indicator lights

up whenever the Foot Pedal mode is used; as

does the automatic indicator when it is used.

When finished with machine or collating, return

the switch to the OFF position.

If you look into the bins you will see that each bin

has a pusher (See f, Fig 4). Each pusher

advances a single sheet with each cycle of the

machine. However, when it is time to load the

bins with fresh sheets, these pushers must be

raised out of the way. This is done by using the

Loading Lever (Fig. 1). When the Loading Lever

is pushed down, it raises the pushers, clearing

the bins for loading. When loading is completed

and you wish to resume collating, the pushers

must be lowered to their normal operating posi-

tion by releasing the Loading Lever.

NOTE: the Loading Lever can only be released

(i.e., raised) by squeezing the Release Buttons

on the underside (d, Fig. 1 & Fig. 2) of the Lever.

(d) RELEASE BUTTONS

The purpose of the Release Buttons (Fig. 1 &

Fig. 2) is to release the Loading Lever. Do not

force the Loading Lever upward without first

squeezing the Release Buttons as damage

might result.

(e) FOOT PEDAL

Depressing the Foot Pedal (Fig. 3) permits you to

operate the Electric Collator in a non-automatic

mode. Though the Foot Pedal mode can oper-

ate the machine up to 21 cycles per minute, (the

same speed as automatic), it is designed for

those occasions when you prefer to control your

own pace.
