Operating Safety Precautions
Warning for Installation
Do not give many loads on one electrical outlet. This can cause a fire or an electrical shock.
Cautions for Installation
Do not install QC-S300 in a location where it will be exposed to direct sunlight, high temperature
or humidity.
Do not install the QC-S300 near any device which produces strong magnetic fields.
Do not install the QC-S300 in a location which is dusty. This can cause a fire or an electrical
shock.
Do not install the QC-S300 in an unstable floor surface. This may allow the QC-S300 to fall over,
and this can cause severe personal injury. This can also affect the performance of the machine.
Warnings for Operation/Maintenance
Work alone when you do any operation.

Load sheets into the bins. Refer to the Additional Information for tips of loading the sheets.
Additional Information: It is important to fan the sheets correctly.
Load the sheets in the bins.
• Load sheets as shown in the illustration to the left.
• The maximum stack height is 28 mm (1.1”).
• The way the sheets are loaded in the bins depends on
the sheet size and the feeding direction. (Refer to page
6.)
• Normally, load sheets as shown in the illustration to the
left.
• Only A4 and 8.5” X 11” size sheets can be loaded so
that they feed from the long edge. (To set up for this,
use the support stopper on the receiving tray.)
• Avoid feeding A5 sheets (5.5" x 8.5") from the long
edge. This can cause double-feeding.
Set the front guide.
• Move the front guide up against the stack of sheets.
• Do not leave any gap between the front guide and
the stack of sheets.
Set the support rollers.
• Set the left support roller about 10 mm (0.39”) inside the
near edge of the stack.
• Center the middle support roller between the left sup-
port roller and the feed roller.
• Set the right support roller near the right edge of the
sheet.
• Wet ink can stain the collator, and also cause feed prob-
lems.
• Before collating photocopied sheets, wait about 30 min-
utes to remove any static electricity in the sheets.
• Uneven stacking can cause jams or misfeeds. This can
also cause stacking problems on the receiving tray.

How to Load the Sheets in the Bins
6
Basic Setup
Additional Information: Sheet Loading Direction
Additional Information: Sheet Transport Direction
Usually, load the sheets so they feed from the
short edge.
• A4 (8.5” x 11”) size sheets can be collated as shown in
the right-hand illustration. Use the support stopper on
the receiving tray.
• Avoid feeding A5 sheets (5.5" x 8.5") from the long
edge. This can cause double-feeding.
When using A3 (11" x 17") size sheets:
• Pull out the bin supports.
When using the collator without SPF-9/9A or MF-1:
• The collated sets are delivered to the right.
1) Load the sheets in the bins face down.
2) Load the first sheets in the bottom bin, and the rest of
the sheets above that in order.
When using the collator with SPF-9/9A or MF-1:
• The collated sets are delivered to the left.
1) Load the sheets in the bins face up.
2) Load the first sheets in the top bin, and the rest of the
sheets below that in order.

The positions of the guides and backstop on the receiving tray depend on the receiving mode and the sheet size.
There are two ways to stack the collated sheets on the receiving tray. Select “offset receiving” or “straight receiving.”
Additional Information
Move the rear guides to the far side of the
receiving tray.
For standard size sheets (except for A5 / 5.5" x
8.5"):
Set the front guides and backstop.
• Position the front guides and the backstop according
to the sheet size indications on the receiving tray.
For A5 / 5.5" x 8.5" sheets:
Set the backstop and the support guide.
• Place one sheet on the receiving tray, then position
the backstop so that it just touches the sheet. Place
the support guide 50 mm (1.97”) away from the near
edge of the sheet.
• In the offset receiving mode, each collated set is offset
as it is stacked in the receiving tray.
• When the main power is turned on, offset receiving is
selected by default.
• See “How to Load and Stack Non-Standard Size
Sheets" on page 21 when collating A4 / 8.5” X 11”
sheets which feed along the long edge.
• If the sheets are not stacked correctly because of static
electricity, move the backstop 10 to 20 mm (0.4” to 0.8”)
farther away from the edge of the stack.

This section explains how to collate sheets using the preset function, and how to
set up for different types of sheets.
15
Definition: Tab Sheets - There are colored sheets which are inserted to mark a certain number of sets. The tab insertion
function makes it easier to count the sets. In this example, we will insert a tab sheet after every five collated sets.
Prepare for the collating operation with the tab
insertion function.
(1) Load the sheets in order, starting from the lowest bin.
• The top bin and the next highest bin are used for tab
sheets only. Do not load regular sheets into these bins.
(2) Load the tab sheets into the top bin.
(3) Set the receiving tray to match the sheet size.
(4) Turn on the main power switch. The machine displays
the Initial screen.
Press the upper tab on the display screen.
• The screen on the LCD display changes.
Turn on the tab insertion function.
• Now you can use the tab insertion function.
Press the numeric key icon.
• Press the upper numeric key icon. Using the Numeric
Keypad screen, enter the number of collated sets
between the tab sheets.
Example: Enter “5” using the Numeric Keypad
screen.
• The machine will insert tab sheets after each group of
five collated sets.
