frames to accomplish all the required audio
and video switching. This is most certainly
true if HDTV video distribution is an aspect of
your design. In addition to HDTV, you may
also be considering distribution of graphics and
video to VGA displays such as touch screens.
As such, it is essential that the Rhapsody sys-
tem accommodate RGBHV video distribution
cleanly and more important, easily. But just
how many inputs will you really need.
As an example, let us take a distributed audio
system with sixteen zones of audio. In addi-
tion to audio, all the monitors/projectors in this
home are going to be fully HDTV ready. How-
ever, not all zones will have a video display.
As such, the additional video outputs will be
used for driving VGA tough screens. Just as
all non-digital audio components are converted
to digital coax, all non-RGBHV sources will be
upconverted to RGBHV and then routed
through the home. To illustrate this configura-
tion, the diagram on the previous page shows
two Conductors. Both units are arranged with
three 16x16 matrixes. The first conductor with
a 16x16 for R, G, & B. The second one for H,
V, & Audio.
In this case, both Conductors are set to the
same address. In the first conductor, outputs
1-8 are set to track (A) for R,G, & B. Outputs
9-16 are set to another tracking group (B) for
R, G, & B. On the second Conductor, outputs
1-8 are set to the same track (A) as the first
Conductor for H & V. Outputs 9-16 are set to
track (B) for H & V. When a single control
string is sent to the system, all five inputs will
track together to the desired output. The au-
dio can be set to a third tracking group (C) so
that a separate audio source can be selected
while the video is on screen.
In the example on this page, instead of a 16x16
audio and RGBHV array, we illustrate a 16x64
audio and RGBHV array. Instead of using 3
tracking groups, a total of eight will be used in
this setup (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, & H), a unique
tracking letter for each zone/output card.
