II. Accessory parts
Note:1
Prepare glue pellets (GC-501) on your own.
Note:2
It will take about 20 minutes to melt a pack of glue
pellets.
Note:
Lifting the machine in an awkward position or
transporting it in a poorly balanced position could
result in personal injury. When transporting the
machine, assign an adequate number of persons
to the job and ensure that each person can take
a good position of not being excessively loaded.
(mass: approx. 210 kg)
[Precaution when transporting the PB-501]
When transporting the PB-501 on a slope where
the pitch changes suddenly (including lifter of a
truck and etc.), make sure to transport it back-
ward or forward. Do not move it in the arrow
marked direction of the following illustration. If
transporting it in the arrow marked direction,
some casters on the book receptacle/2 may be
deformed because the casters on the book
receptacle/2 are too weak to support the weight
of the whole PB-501.

III. Preparation Prior to Installation
1. Visually inspect the unit.
2. Remove the locking tapes and locking materials.
3. Remove the accessory parts.
Note:
One more locking tape is on the rear side of the
book receptacle.
4. Open the front door of the PB-501, and remove six
locking materials (24 screws), the locking tapes
and the cushion.
Note:
There is a plastic sheet under the cushion, so be
sure to remove it.
5. Pull out the clamp unit and remove the locking tapes.
(8 places)
6. Push back the glue injector.
Note:
Push the upper right part of the glue injector (cir-
clemarked part).
7. Using the screw holes in the place the lower-right
locking material was removed, install the pro-
cessing cover/1 with two screws. (TP screw
M4x6: 2 pcs.)
8. Remove the two locking tapes and the protection
paper.

9. Open the door of the book receptacle/2, remove
the tapes the Lifter (2 places) and two locking
materials (7 screws ), raise the Lifter up to the
position where it stops, and remove the cushion.
10. Remove the locking tape on the cover tray.
(1) While pushing up the lock lever, pull out the
cover tray.
(2) Remove the locking tapes inside the cover
tray. Then remove the guide tape.
IV. Installation Procedure for each option
1. Turn the machine’s Sub and Main power switches
OFF, and unplug the power cord.
2. Install the Installation plate 1, the Installation plate
2, the Installation plate 3, and the Installation plate
5 on the left side of the machine as below. (TP
screw M4x6: 8 pcs.)
3. Remove the connector cover on the left side of
the machine (1 screw).

4. Install the PB-501 to the machine.
(1) Connect the three connector jacks of the PB-501
to the connector plugs on the machine.
(One small 2pin connector will not be used.)
(2) Align the top hole with the Installation plate 1,
and the bottom hole with the Installation plate
5, and slide them to the back.
(3) Secure the PB-501 onto the Installation plate 2
with a screw. (TP screw M4x10: 1 pc.)
(4) Pull out the cover tray, and install the Installa-
tion plate 4. (TP screw M4x10: 1 pc.)
Note:
If the screw holes of the Installation plate 2 and the
Installation plate 4 do not align, adjust them by the
height of the casters on the PB-501.

5. Remove the top cover of the book receptacle (2
screws).
Note:
A connector is on the rear side of the top cover.
Make sure not to forcibly disconnect the connector
when opening the top cover.
6. Turn OFF the DIP SW1.
Note:
This procedure is required because by default it
is set for a C6500/C6501 series. (Factory
default of SW1: ON)
Do not change other switches.
7. Remove the CN-29 connector from the control
board.
8. Remove the short connector from the clamp.
9. Connect the short connector to the CN-29, and
secure the connector 29 with the clamp.
10. Install the top cover on the book receptacle (2
screws).
11. Perform a software update (ISW).
For ISW procedures, see the service manual.
Note:
The software is designed for the C6500/C6501
series, so be sure to run it.
Note:
Perform the operations described in "V.Common
operations after installing PB-501", page 17 to 19.

1. Turn OFF the machine's Sub and Main power
switches, and unplug the power cord.
2. Remove the positioning bracket/top of PB-501 (2
screws).
3. Install the machine installation plate/L (included in
the RU package) (TP screw M4x6: 4 pcs.:
included with the RU).
4. Align the bottom hole of the PB-501 with the posi-
tioning pin on the power supply unit, and lock
them by sliding the PB-501 toward the back.
5. Pull out the cover tray, and install the Installation
plate 4. (TP screw M4x10: 1pc.)
Note:
If the screw holes of the Installation plate 4 do not
align, adjust them by the height of the casters on
the PB-501.

6. Install the reinforcing plate/R (included in the RU
package) on the back of machine installation
plate/R and machine installation plate/L. (TP
screw M4x6: 4 pcs.: included with the RU)
7. Retract the supporting leg on the back side of the
power supply unit.
8. Connect the four PB-501 connector jacks to the
connector plugs of the RU power supply unit.
Note:
RU for C6501/C6501P series is different from the
one in the picture below.
9. Place the conveyance unit on the rail of machine
installation plate/R and machine installation
plate/L, and slide it all the way in until it stops at
the back.
10. Remove the lock shaft of the conveyance unit (1
black screw).
Note:
Be sure to store the lock shaft for the use when
removing the conveyance unit.
11. Pull out the conveyance unit, secure it with
screws [TP screw (black) M3x8: 2pcs.: included
with the RU], and push it back.

12. Loosen two screws, and remove the connector
cover on the back side of the RU conveyance
segment.
13. Connect two connector plugs of the power sup-
ply unit to the connector plugs of the convey-
ance segment, and secure the wire bundle with
two clamps as shown in the figure.
14. Secure the bundled connectors of the power sup-
ply unit with the clamp on the connector cover.
15. Install the connector cover on the RU convey-
ance segment (2 screws).
Note:
Put the wire bundle into the RU machine so that it
will not get hooked when the conveyance segment
is pulled out.
16. Install the back cover (included with the RU)
[Truss screw (black) M4x6: 2 pcs.: included with
the RU].
17. Install the front cover (included with the RU).
(1) Temporarily place two screws in the front of the
power supply unit (TP screw M4x6: 2 pcs.:
included with the RU).

(2) Align the bottom holes of the front cover with
the pins of the power supply unit, and use the
temporarily placed screws to secure it.
Note:
If the front cover does not close because it touches
the machine or optional unit, adjust the horizontal
position or angle of the front cover. If the actuator
does not turn the interlock switch ON, adjust the
position of the actuator adjustment plate as well.

Perform the operations described in "V.Common
operations after installing PB-501", page 17 to 19.

(FD-503).
5. Hook the Paper path guide with the loosened screws,
and secure it with the screws.
6. Remove the tray support plate (5 screws).
7. Install the PB-501 to the FD-501 (FD-503).
(1) Connect the four connector jacks of the PB-501
to the connector plugs on the FD-501 (FD-503).
(2) Align the top hole with the Installation plate 1,
and the bottom hole with the Installation plate
5, and slide them to the back.

V. Common operations after installing
PB-501
1. Check if the sub-compile door is interfering with
the top door.
*Confirmation method
(1) Open the sub-compile door straight up.
(2) Open the top door and align it with the rollers
of the sub-compile door.
(3) Slide the top door back and forth to make sure
the areas indicated by the circles in the figure
are positioned correctly, and the top door does
not interfere with the sub-compile door.
*Adjustment method
Adjust the height of the casters on the PB-501
main unit to correct the slant of the main unit to
eliminate any interference.
2. Adjust the casters of the book receptacle/2 so
that the two casters come in contact with the floor
on which the receptacle is to be installed.
Note:
The book receptacle is shipped with casters in
a retracted condition.
Adjust the cover caster of the receptacle so that
the cover moves smoothly and the interlock
actuator can be securely inserted.
3. Use four magnets to set the filter inside the ventila-
tion duct.
4. Install the Ventilation duct, aligning the four grooves
on the back cover (2 screws).
5. Open the glue supply door, and put glue pellets in.
Note:
Unbind glue pellets keeping in a plastic bag, and
then put them in.

6. Plug in the power cord.
VI.Serial Number Registration
Register the serial number of the PB-501 that has
been installed to the machine.
The location of the serial number is shown in the fig-
ure below.

1. Plug the power cord into the outlet and turn
ON the Main power switch.
2. Enter Service mode.
Note:
Refer to procedures in the Service Manual to
enter into the Service Mode.
3. Touch “System Setting” to display sub menus.
4. Touch “M/C Serial Number Setting” from the
system setting sub menus.
5. Touch the finisher No. key according to the
place where it was installed to display the
Serial number entry screen.

6. Enter the serial number of the PB-501 and
touch “OK”. (Use “Shift” to switch between
upper case letters and lower case letters.)
7. Touch “OK” on the serial number list screen.
Step

Note:
Refer to procedures in the Service Manual to
enter into the Service Mode.

VII. Importing Adjustment Data
Import the factory adjustment data of the PB-501 to
the machine memory.
If a PB-501 and other optional units are connected,

time.
Note:
Be sure to import the factory adjustment data of
the PB-501 to the machine memory.
VIII. Installation Confirmation
Conduct an operating check to determine that the
folding unit full detection is working.
Note:
Only confirm if the machine combination is included
PB-501 and FD-501 (FD-503).
*Confirmation method
1. Press the switch on the PB (A in the figure) to see
if the switch on the FD (B in the figure) turns ON.
2. Turn the main unit's power ON, and press the
switch on the PB (A in the figure) to see if the
message “Perfect Binder Sub Tray is full Please
remove paper.” appears on the control panel.
*Adjustment method
If the FD full detection does not turn ON, adjust the
casters of the PB-501 main unit and raise it to acti-
vate the FD full detection.
IX. Confirmation of Paper Output
Output paper. If bind results are not good, adjust the
settings.
See the Service Manual for adjustment method.
X. Adjustment Data Backup
If the PB-501 adjustment data is changed, back up
the machine PB-501 data to the PB-501 memory.
If a PB-501 and other optional units are connected,
the data will be backed up to both memories at the
same time.
Step
1. Plug the power cord into the outlet and turn
ON the Main power switch.
2. Enter Service mode.
Note:
Refer to procedures in the Service Manual to
enter into the Service Mode.
3. Touch “Finisher Adjustment”.
4. [Finisher Adjustment Menu screen]
Touch “Recall Standard Data”.
5. Touch “Factory Initial Data” on the recall stan-
dard data screen.

Step
1. On the Service mode menu screen, touch
“Machine Condition (1050 series)” or “State
Confirmation (C6500/C6501 series)”.
2. Touch “I/O Check Mode”.
3. Enter “9” and “0” using the quantity setting but-
tons. Make sure that <1050 series 090-00/
C6500/C6501 series 90-00> appears on the
message display.
4. Press the [Start] key.
Backup procedure will start.
