The following will help you get the most enjoyment from your Norcent DVD player.
BEST LOCATION
The unit should be placed on a firm, flat surface, away from VCRs, stereos, radios, or large speakers, as the
magnetic flux from these devices may cause distortion in the sound and a poor picture. If it is placed in a
cabinet, be sure there is at least 1 foot of free space completely around the unit for proper ventilation.
TO OBTAIN A CLEAR PICTURE
A DVD player is a precision device. If the optical pick-up lens and disc drive parts become dirty or worn
down, picture quality will become poor. To obtain a clear picture, regular inspection and maintenance are
recommended every 1,000 hours of use, depending on the operating environment. Contact dealer for details.
PLAYABLE DISCS
This Norcent DVD player will play the following types of discs: DVD, MP3,CD, CD-R, and CD-RW
DVD+R/RWDVD-R/R W and MPEG4with super-error correction ability . It is also capable of displaying
picture CDs and digital photo albums. It supports eight languages, up to 32 subtitles, and multi-angle
viewing.
It features easy setup and operation with on-screen menus. It has full function CPU upgradeable capability.
DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT
The unit's coaxial output capability enables you to connect an external six-channel AV amplifier and
processor with built-in Dolby Digital codes and MPEG modulating capacity with just one cord. This enables
you to conveniently enjoy different DVD, CD and MP3 discs.
LASER-HEAD OVER-CURRENT PROTECTION SYSTEM
To extend the service life of the laser head, the unit includes a unique laser-head over-current protection
system, ensuring a constant laser current.

Connecting your player to the TV
CONNECTIONS
Connect the S-VIDEO OUT jack to the S-Video input jack on the TV using a S-Video cable.
Connect the VIDEO OUT jack to the Video input jack on the TV using a video cable.
Use the audio cables to connect AUDIO OUT jacks to the corresponding AUDIO IN jacks on the TV, CD or
TAPE recorder.
Use the Coaxial cables to connect COAXIAL jack to correspond to receive digital Audio signal.

Battery installation
1. Open the battery cover.
2. Insert the supplied batteries according to the direction
indicated in the battery compartment.
When inserting or removing the batteries, push them
towards the battery terminals.
3. Close the cover.
Precautions for battery use:
Caution:
Do not use rechargeable batteries.
Installing the batteries incorrectly may cause the unit to
malfunction.
Notes concerning use:
BATTERY INSTALLATION

Replace all old batteries with new ones at the
same time.
Do not mix old and new batteries.
Remove the batteries if the unit is not to be used
for long periods of time. This will prevent potential
damage due to battery leakage.
Replace the batteries if the operating distance is
reduced or if the operation becomes erratic.
Purchase 2 AAA size batteries
Periodically clean the transmitter on the remote
control and the sensor on the unit with a soft cloth.
Exposing the sensor on the unit to strong light may
interfere with operation. Change the lighting or the
direction of the unit.
Keep the remote control away from moisture,
heat, shock, and vibrations.
The preferred options will be chosen if they are available on a disc. If the disc loaded does not have the
preferred option then the disc own preference will be used.
Start playback
Press PLAY/PAUSE /ll . To pause playback, press /ll
again.
Note:
Some discs will start playing automatically, and others
will display the menu on the TV screen. use the / / /
to select the track, or press the number keys ( 0 ~ 9 )
to go to the desired track/chapter.
Stop playback
Press STOP first time to stop temporarily.
Press this key again to go into full stop status.
Note
Your player will not play discs that have a region code
different from the region code of your player.
icon:If the inhibit icon appears on the TV screen when
a button is pressed, it means the function is not available
on the disc you are playing.

Basic Playback
1 When you complete all the connections, plug the
AC power cord of the player.
2 Press STANDBY-ON to switch ON the main power.
3 Press MUTE to shut off the sound. To restore the
volume, press it again.
4 Skip to another track/chapter
Press remote / repeatedly during playback to
skip to next or previous track / chapter.
5 Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray, press
again to close the disc tray.
The following mode indicators inform you of the current
drive status (Example only for your reference).
Slow motion play
Press remote SLOW to play in slow motion.
SF(slow farword)
SR(slow reverse)
For DivX discs
Press it repeatedly to select the slow motion speed:

Picture zooming
This function allows you to enlarge the picture on
the TV screen
and to pan through the enlarged image.
1 Press ZOOM repeatedly to select a zoom factor
as below:
2 To pan through the enlarge image, press ok
to confirm the zoom selection and use / / /
keys to move the zoomed picture left, right, up
or down.
3 Some discs may not respond to the zoom
feature.
Changing Subtitle Language
This operation will be used in setup menu, it
works only on DVDs with multiple soundtrack
language.

BASIC OPERATIONS
Angle selection
Some DVD discs contain scenes which have
been taken photos simultaneously from a
number of different angles. For those discs, the
same scenes can be viewed from each of the
different angles. (The recorded angles differ from
disc to disc.) press ANGLE key to set angle
mark.
While playing a title shot from different angles, the
angle mark appears on the TV screen.
Press the remote ANGLE button to change the
scenes from one angle to other angle(s).For
example: 1/3, 2/3, 3/3.
Changing Sound Track Language
This operation will be used in setup menu, it works
only on DVDs with multiple sound track language.
Note
When the desired language is not selected several
times, it means the language is not available on
the disc.

BASIC OPERATIONS
Checking the information
You can check information about the disc, such as
the total number of the titles or chapters or tracks
or time, using the Display function. The
information you want appears on the TV screen .
When playing a DVD
1 Press the DISPLAY button repeatedly to show
on TV screen as the following: The display will
disappear after a few seconds.
2 Press the DISPLAY again, the information
display is off.
Note
Depending on the DVD, the title number or chapter
number or time may not appear or you may not
be able to change the display.
When playing a CD
1 Press the DISPLAY button repeatedly to show
on TVscreen as the following:
The display will disappear after a few seconds if
you do not press a key in five seconds.
2 Press the DISPLAY button again, the infomation
display is off.
When playing a MP3 disc
1 Press the DISPLAY button repeatedly to show
on TV screen as the following:
The display will disappear after a few seconds.
2 Press the DISPLAY button again, the
information display is off.

General setup
1 Press SETUP to enter SETUP MENU.
2 Use / / / to select your preferred option.
3 Press OK to confirm a highlighted selection.
4 To exit setup menu, press SETUP.
Setting the picture
TV Shape
Select the aspect ratio of the TV to be connected.
4:3 PS
If you have a conventional TV set and your DVD
is not formatted for wide screen viewing, use this
setting. A wide picture is displayed on the whole
TV screen with a portion automatically cut off.
4:3 LB (default setting)
If you have a conventional TV set and your DVD
is formatted for wide screen viewing, use this
setting. wide bands will be displayed on the upper
and whole portions of the TV screen.
16:9
If you have a wide screen TV set, use this
setting (you must also set your wide screen TV
to full size”).

Note
If your DVD is not encoded to allow you to change
the aspect ratio, TV shape cannot be changed.
TV Type
Allows you to select the colour system matching
the connected TV set.
AUTO
If the connected TV is multi system, select this
mode. The output format will be in accordance
with the video signal of the disc.
NTSC
If the connected TV is NTSC system, select this
mode. It will change the video signal of a PAL
disc and output in NTSC format.
PAL
If the connected TV is PAL system, select this
mode. It will change the video signal of a NTSC
disc and output in PAL format.
Video Out
Video out selection enables you to choose the type
of video output suitable for your receiver.
S-VIDEO
Select S-VIDEO if you have connected the video
output to yourTV using S-VIDEO jack.
YPRPB
Select YPRPB, if you have connected the video
output to your TV using the YPRPB jack.
Screen Saver
If set to ON, when you leave the system in stop or
pause mode for more than three minutes the
screen saver will be activated. The default setting
is OFF.
Digital Out
Digital output selection enables you to specify the
type of digital output suitable for your amplifier or
reciever.
Select ALL (default setting) , if you have
connected the digital output to a multichannel
decoder receiver.
Select PCM 96K if the external component is
capable of processing digital signal input with
sampling rates of 96 kHz.
Select PCM 48K if the external component is
incapable of processing 96kHz digital signal
input, then convert to standard signal with
sampling rates of 48 kHz.
Select OFF to de-activate the coaxial output.
Night Mode
Set night mode to on to level out the volume. For
example, the disc will play at the same sound level
throughout the movie. The default setting is OFF.

Test Tone (disc mode only)
If set to ON, the system will test the speaker
settings. The test signal is generated through the
left, right speakers. The default setting is OFF.
Setting the Language

1.This is to select the audio language, the
language used on TV screen menus or DVD
menus that will always be used for every disc to be
playback. The default setting is English.
2.If the language selected is not available on the
disc, the original language designated by each
disc will be selected.
Setting the Features
-Parental
Enables setting of playback limitation level. Some
DVDs may have a parental level assigned to the
complete disc or to certain scenes on the disc. The
rating levels are from 1 to 8 and are country
dependent. You can prohibit the playing of certain
discs that are not suitable for your children or
have certain discs played with alternative
scenes.
1.Enter the 4-digit code. If necessary enter the
code a second time.
2. Use / keys to select a rating level .
3. Press OK to confirm.The default setting is 1G.
Rating 1 to 8
If the players parental leven is set below 8, only
discs with a lower or equal level will play. For
example, if the player is set to 5, only discs with
ratings of 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 will be played. Higher
rated scenes will not be played unless an
alternative that has the same rating or lower is
available on the disc. For example, consider a
disc that general is suitable for most audiences,
and it is rated at level 2 for the most part.
However, in the middle, there are also scenes
rated at 5 (not suitable for children).
Note
some DVDs are not encoded with a rating though
the movie ratingis printed on the disc jacket. The
rating level feature does not work for such discs.
-Password
To set a new password for the parental control
or to change the password. The password
supplied as defualt is 8888.
-OSD Language
Select the language for on screen display.
-Defaults
If RESET is selected, all the items in the setup menu
will be reset to default setting, except parental and
password setting.

A number of operations can be carried out directly
via the mutiple menu bars on the TV screen without
interrupting disc playback.

IMPORTANT!
Some operations may be different or restricted,
depending on the disc format. Refer to the jacket
or case of the disc you are playing.
1 Press SETUP button the menu bar will be
displayed across the top of the TV screen.
2 Press / to move through the menu bar
3 Press to select the highlighted icon and use /
key to select your preferred option.
4 Press OK to confirm a highlighted selection.
5 To exit, press SETUP or OK.
Changing Subtitle Language
This operation works only on DVDs with multiple
sound track language.
Select from the menu bar and press key to
select the desired language.

Display the disc information during playback
Select from the menu bar and press key to
select the following display informations :
Moving to another Title/Chapter
Some discs may contain more than one title or
chapter. If the disc has a title or chapter menu
recorded on it, you can start playback from the
selected item.
1 Select (title) or (chapter) from the menu
bar..
2 Use number keyed (0~9) to select a desire title /
chapter number and press OK to start playback.
Note
Selecting a title or chapter might not be possible
on certain discs.
Playback from a selected point
This function allows you to start playing at any
chosen time on the disc.
1 Select from the menu bar.
2 Enter hours, minutes and seconds from left to
right in the time edit box using the number keys
(0~9).Each time an item has been entered, the
next item will be highlighted.
3 Press OK key to play.
Note
This function is not available for MP3.

Repeat
For DVD discs
Select from the menu bar and press key
repeatedly to select the following on the display:
[CHAPTER REPEAT ON] : repeat chapter
[TITLE REPEAT ON] : repeat title/disc
[REPEAT OFF] : repeat off
For CD discs
Select from the menu bar and press key
repeatedly to select the following on the display:
[REP-ONE] : repeat the current track
[REP-ALL] : repeat the entire disc
[REPEAT OFF] : repeat off
For Divx / MP3 discs
Select from the menu bar and press key
repeatedly to select the following on the display:
[REP-ONE] : repeat the current track
[FOLDER REPEAT] : repeat the entire disc
[REP-ALL] : repeat the entire disc
[REPEAT OFF] : repeat off
Note
When operating this function, the OSD will
display the operating information.
Program play
At stop mode,you can play the contents of the disc
in the order you want by programming the order of
the tracks to be played. Up to 99 tracks can be
stored.
1 Select in the menu bar and press key 6to
enter program mode.
-“ ” is displayed.
2 Use the number keys (0~9) to input the track
number in the order you want.
-If you attempt to program more than 99 tracks,
“ ” isdisplayed.

Repeat A-B
This function can play a specific section in a
chapter / track repeatedly.
1 Select from the menu bar and press 6 key at
the starting you want .
2 Press6 key again at the end portion you want.
The specific section will now repeat continuously.
3 press 6 key the third time to cancel this function.
Note:
The A-B can be set only within the same
chapter/track.
3 Press OK to store the track.
4 To start program play, press /ll.
5 To stop playback, press once .
6 To cancel the program , press again.
NOTE:
This function can be suitable to CD only.
Selecting the surround sound mode
1 Select from the menu bar and press 6 key
repeatedly to select desired sound mode:
-VSS (Virtual Surround Sound)
The prologic MPEG or Dolby Digital surround
channel is processed by a " virtualiser " DSP to add
surround effect from just the two front speakers.
-Stereo
All sound is reproduced and played through the left
and right speakers. This enables standard stereo
reproduction.
Sleep timer setting
The sleep timer enables the system to switch to
stand by mode automatically at a preset time .
1 Select from the menu bar and press 6 key
repeatedly to select a preset time.
- The selections are as follows (time in minutes)
2 To cancel the sleep timer
- Press 6 key repeatedly until the OFF appears.
Activating P/I (Progressive/Interlace) Mode
If your TV has component input terminals (YPbPr
or YCbCr), you can connect your TV to this DVD
player's component output terminals (YPbPr) using
component signal cables (not provided). Refer to
page 13 to set YPRPB as DVD player's VIDEO
