One AC power cord
One pair of rack mounting brackets
One installation manual
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The ST-CCTV-VBAC8 is an 8-channel active video receiver that receives a balanced signal over
unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable and converts it to an unbalanced signal for a display device
(e.g., monitor). Eight channels of video imaging simultaneously can be received over UTP cable,
processed and displayed. The ST-CCTV-VBAC8 incorporates excellent crosstalk suppression and
transient suppression protection. Color video transmission distances using the SecurityTronix
ST-CCTV-VB passive video balun are up to 4,900 feet. Use of the SecurityTronix
ST-CCTV-VBAC-TX active video balun allows a color transmission distance up to 7,850 feet.

INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of electrical shock do not remove the cover or back of this
unit. No user serviceable parts are inside.
CAUTION: To prevent electric shocks and risk of fire hazards, do not use other than
specified power source.
1. UNPACKING and HANDLING
Each unit is shipped assembled and factory tested.
Ensure that all accessories are removed from the container before discarding packing material
2. MECHANICAL INSPECTION
Inspect the front and rear of the equipment for shipping damage. Make sure the equipment is
clean, and no connectors are broken, damaged, or loose. If equipment appears to be
damaged or defective please contact your distributor or SecurityTronix at 1-610-429-1511 for
assistance.
3. SPECIAL ATTENTION
a. The installer must comply with electrical safety standards.
b. This unit is designed to use AC power. Using a power source other than 90 260VAC
will damage the unit.
c. Only qualified installers are allowed to install and test the unit.
d. The ST-CCTV-VBAC8 is intended for indoor installations. If installed outdoors proper
safety and lightning grounding are required.

5. WIRING CONNECTIONS
a. The UTP connections to the ST-CCTV-VBAC8 can be done using the unit’s (i)
terminal blocks or (ii) RJ45 connector. The advantage of using the RJ45 connector is
multiple devices can be connected using a single UTP cable. If using the RJ45
connector the wiring order follows the TIA/EIA-568B specification. All UTP wiring
should correspond to the figure below:
Note there are two RJ45 connectors each assigned to a bank of channels: one for
Channels 1 4 and the other for Channels 5 8.
If connections are to be made using the unit’s terminal blocks the make the wire
connections between the camera and to the appropriate terminal blocks for the given
channel. Note it is imperative the wiring polarities at the terminal block and the
camera/balun be consistent.
b. If connecting a passive balun to the CCTV camera use the ST-CCTV-VB passive
video balun to transition the camera’s unbalanced output (BNC coax) to balanced
UTP.
c. If connecting an active balun to the CCTV camera use the ST-CCTV-VBAC-TX active
video balun to transition the camera’s unbalanced output (BNC coax) to balanced
UTP.
d. Make a UTP cable connection between each passive/active device’s balanced
connector and the ST-CCTV-VBAC8’s terminal blocks or RJ45 input connectors. Up
to 8 devices can be connected.
e. Using quality 75ohm coaxial cable with BNC connectors connect the
ST-CCTV-VBAC8’s BNC output connector to a display device (e.g., DVR or monitor).
Up to 8 display devices (e.g., monitors, DVRs) can be connected.
f. Connect the ST-CCTV-VBAC8’s AC power cable to the unit then plug into an
appropriately rated AC outlet.

6. SETTINGS
Image brightness and sharpness may vary according to the distance between the camera and
the ST-CCTV-VBAC8. A potentiometer and set of DIP switches are assigned to each channel
on the ST-CCTV-VBAC8. The potentiometer is used to adjust “brightness” while the DIP
switches adjust “sharpness”. To help achieve the best image quality, first adjust the
ST-CCTV-VBAC8’s potentiometer(s) for brightness the adjust the DIP switches a described
below to compensate for distance. A switch in the “1” position represents minimum
compensation while a switch in the “4” position represent maximum compensation. Using the
table below the 4 DIP switch settings for each channel can provide up to 16 compensation
values associated with various transmission distances.
Note all adjustments for brightness and sharpness should be done with a video waveform
monitor or other video test equipment. However, if such equipment is not available a video
monitor can be used.
7. TROUBLESHOOTING
a. Video image appears scrambled (i) Check to be sure all UTP wiring connections and
polarities are consistent at each device and ST-CCTV-VBAC8 input (terminal block or
RJ45 connector).
b. Video image has some ripples This may be caused by electro-magnetic
interference. Be certain all cables are away from any devices that may cause such
interference (e.g., electrical motors, furnaces, etc.).
c. Video image lacks brightness and/or sharpness Adjust the ST-CCTV-VBAC8’s
potentiometer(s) for brightness and/or DIP switches for distance. A video waveform
monitor or other video test equipment should be used.
d. Can shielded twisted pair cable be used Although shielded twisted pair cable can be
used, the cable’s high-frequency roll-off will degrade the distance performance.
Therefore, it is not recommended beyond a couple hundred feet.
e. Additional troubleshooting assistance can be found on-line at www.securitytronix.com
in addition to support from SecurityTronix sales engineers at 1-610-429-1511.
