Chapter 1. Meet your computer
Front
1. Microphones
Capture or record sound and voice.
2. Camera Take pictures or record videos by clicking Camera from the Start menu.
Note: If you use other applications that support photo capture, video chat, and
video conference, the camera starts automatically when you enable the camera-
required feature from the application.
3. ThinkShutter Move the slider to cover or uncover the camera lens.
Note: The ThinkShutter helps you better protect your privacy.
4. Camera light If the light is on, the camera is in use.
5. Screen Display text, graphics, and videos. Selected models support multi-touch function.
6. Wireless antennas
Send and receive radio waves for the built-in wireless LAN (local area network)
and Bluetooth module.
Note: The antennas are not visible from the outside of the computer.

14–inch models
1. Smart Power Button*
Press the button to turn on the computer or put the computer in sleep mode.
Fingerprint reader* is available on Smart Power Button. Enroll and read your
fingerprint for user authentication.
2. Power/Fingerprint reader* light The light shows power status of the computer. If the computer includes a
fingerprint reader, it can also show the status of the reader.
3. Keyboard Enter characters and interact with programs.
Note: The keyboard also includes hotkeys and function keys for changing
settings and performing tasks quickly.
4.Touchpad Perform finger touch and all the functions of a traditional mouse.
Note: The touchpad also supports multi-touch function.

1. Ethernet connector Connect to a local area network (LAN).
Note: When the green indicator is on, the computer is connected to a LAN. When
the yellow indicator blinks, data is being transmitted.

connector Connect to a compatible digital audio device or video monitor, such as an HDTV.
3. USB (3.1 Gen 1) Type-A
connector (always-on)
The always-on connector can charge external devices when the computer is
turned off, in sleep or hibernation modes.
Note: The always-on function can be turned on or off in one or more of the

adapter*.
Note: Either an ac power adapter or a USB-C power adapter is provided with
your computer.
Charge USB-C compatible devices with the output voltage of 5 V and output
current of 3 A.
Transfer data at USB 3.1 speed, up to 10 Gbps.
Connect to an external display:
USB-C to VGA: 1900 x 1200 pixels, 60 Hz
USB-C to DP: 3840 x 2160 pixels, 60 Hz

Note: When the battery power is below 10%, the connected USB-C accessories
might not work correctly.
6. Combo audio jack Connect headphones or headsets with a 3.5-mm (0.14-inch), 4-pole plug.
Note: This jack does not support standalone external microphones. If you use
headsets, choose one with a single plug.
7. Novo button hole Press the Novo button to open the Novo Button menu. From the menu, you can
choose to open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility, the Boot menu, or the Windows
startup options screen.
8. Storage drive status indicator The storage drive is being used to read or write data.
When this indicator is blinking, do not put the computer into sleep mode or turn
off the computer.
9. Power indicator Indicate the system status of the computer.
Connected to ac power:
Solid white: battery capacity 80% - 100%
Blinking slowly in white: battery capacity 20% - 80%
Blinking rapidly in amber and off: battery capacity 1% - 20%
Not connected to ac power:
Off: battery capacity 20% - 100%
Solid amber: battery capacity 5% - 20%
Blinking rapidly in amber: battery capacity 1% - 5%

Type-A connector)
Insert a USB dongle to connect USB-compatible wireless devices, such as a
wireless keyboard, a wireless mouse, and wireless USB storage devices.
For USB dongle specification details, see “USB dongle specification” on page 21.
2. SD-card slot Supported cards:
