Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the ALR 7200R. With the arrival of
your new system, you are probably eager to install your system and have it
operating.
Installation Requirements
The ALR 7200R system drawer is designed for an office environment and
allows for floor-level entry of all cables through the opening in the bottom
of the cabinet. No special peripheral cable entry kits are required. The
cabinet can be installed in a raised floor environment as well as in a solid
floor office environment.
Proper planning is necessary to minimize problems during setup. When
determining the setup location for the system, keep in mind the size (height
and width) of stairs, elevators, hallways, and doorways.
Once the cabinet is at its final destination, lower the stabilizing feet by
turning them clockwise until they make a firm contact with the floor. The
stabilizing feet help prevent the cabinet from tipping or rocking when the
drawer is extended.
If you are installing several cabinets together, "gang" them together by
removing the side panels between the cabinets and bolting the cabinets
together. Removing the in-between side panels allows efficient routing of
cables between the cabinets to help maintain a common electrical ground.
A kit designed to facilitate this is available from the manufacturer.
If your system came configured as a tower, please refer to Chapter 2:
Converting from Mini-Tower to Rack-Mount, for information on converting
your system. If conversion is not necessary, you may skip to Chapter 3:
Installation.

Introduction
The ALR 7200 minitower chassis provides the capability to easily convert
into a fully functional, standard 19" rack-mountable drawer. To accomplish
this, a Rack Conversion Kit is available. If your system came pre-
configured for rack installation, you may skip this section and proceed to
Chapter 3.
Before proceeding, turn off system power and disconnect all peripherals.
Remove Existing Panels
1. Remove the three screws located on the rear of the system.
2. Slide the top panel back, then pull the cover up.
3. Remove the two screws located on the rear of the system, left side.
4. Slide the side panel back, then pull the cover off.
5. From the inside of the chassis, remove the two screws securing the
bezel to the chassis.

Introduction 5
6. Holding onto the bottom handle, firmly pull bezel away from chassis.
7. From the inside of the system, push out the pin, located in the center of
the plastic foot, with a screwdriver. Remove Feet from the bottom of
the minitower.

3. Replace top panel with a rack-mountable side panel.
4. Install Control Housing over power button.
5. Install the Panel Bracket.
6. Remove blanking panels, corresponding to the devices being used,
from Front Panel. If a device is not being used, leave the
corresponding blanking panel in place. Plastic snap plugs, used to
cover screw holes, may be removed and stored on the top of the panel
bracket.
7. Install the Front Panel.
Caution!
Keyboard Inhibit Switch
should be turned off or the
connector unplugged from
the system board. See

Installing the System Drawer
Installing the Mounting Rails
1. Remove the side rails from the mounting rails, by depressing the
retention clips and sliding them off.
2. Mount the side rails on the system chassis with the 8 screws (4 to each
side) provided. The retention clips should go toward the rear of the
cabinet.
3. If the mounting rails have not previously been installed, position the
drawer template (P/N 65770050-00) in the cabinet so that the side
matches the corresponding side you wish to install.
Note:
Drawer heights are
measured in U’s. Each U is
equivalent to 1.75 inches.
The ALR 7200R is 6U’s
(10.5 inches) high.

Installing the System Drawer 9
4. Mark the screw hole locations onto the vertical mounting strips in the
cabinet as shown on the template. The marks will locate the mounting
holes of the rail brackets and front panel.
5. Attach the front bracket to the front cabinet vertical mounting strip
using two screws as marked. Attach the rear bracket to the rear
cabinet vertical mounting strip.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to mount the second set of brackets.
7. To secure the rails to the mounting brackets, begin with the rear of the
rail first. Slide inner rails forward to gain access to mounting holes. If
the latch locks the rail into place, release the latch to allow the rails to
slide freely.
8. Install the mounting screws through the rail into the rear mounting
bracket.
9. To secure the front of the rail, slide inner rail so that the opening aligns
with the mounting holes.
10. Install the mounting screws. Verify that the inner rails slide in and out
freely.

Mounting the System Drawer
to mount the system drawer
1. Pull forward the inner rails inside the mounting rails until the inner
latch locks the inner rail in the "out" position.
2. Pull the inner slides all the way forward.
3. Lift the system drawer to the same height as the mounting rails and
align the rails on the drawer with cabinet mounting rails.
Caution!
The system drawer is
heavy and awkward. To
avoid possible injury or
damage to the system, get
some help when lifting it
into place, aligning the rails
and installing it into the
cabinet.

Installing the System Drawer 11
4. Press the cabinet mounting rails towards the center of the cabinet
while inserting the side rails on the system drawer into the cabinet
mounting rails.
5. Push the system drawer evenly into the cabinet until the latches on the
drawer rails lock.
6. Press the latches on both sides of the system drawer and push the
drawer back until the front panel touches the vertical mounting rails.
The drawer may move reluctantly at first. However, it should move
smoothly, without binding or restriction thereafter.
