Care and Maintenance of the MVP-100 Camera:
Follow normal practice for any high quality optical instrument:
1. Immediately clean up any spills you might have on the MVP-100.
Particularly any corrosive agents should be wiped off, and/or
neutralized as necessary.
2. Store the MVP-100 covered.
3. Clean the camera lens only with standard lens paper to
preventing scratching.
4. Do not use any liquids to clean the lens, except water. (dampen
a piece of lens paper if oils or fingerprints are on the lens)
5. Store in a clean, dry location away from corrosive agents
and dust.
You may connect your MVP-100 camera directly to a computer OR
multimedia projector(s), OR Video Monitor OR Recorder (VCR or DVD) OR
any combination of these output devices. Additionally, the MVP-100 camera
may be connected to a Network, and that signal may be delivered to any of
the peripherals on the Network. For the puroses of these instructions, all of
these will be collectively called Output Devices.
At the rear of the MVP-100, please find a panel containing several
connectors. These include connections including a ones for VGA out (Monitor
out), VGA in, USB, RJ-45 (for Network connections), a series of Composite
Jacks including Composite Video out (C-VID), Audio out (A-OUT), and
Microphone in (MIC-IN), and S-Video out (S-VID). Additionally, there is the
input plug for the power supply of the camera (DC12V). There is a green light
that will indicate Network function is on.
Connecting your MVP-100 to various Output Devices
Your MVP-100 is designed as a multi-media friendly camera which can
be connected to a variety of Output Devices.
Output Device - Could be a Multimedia Projector, Video Monitor, TV,
Computer, VCR or DVD recorder.
1) MVP-100 to any Output Device which will accept a VGA input
signal (Multimedia Projector; Video Monitor, DVD or VCR Recorder).
Connect a VGA cable between the MVP-100 (Monitor-out) plug
and the Computer 1 IN or VGA IN of the Output Device.
Turn Output Device on (being sure correct button such as
Computer 1 or Computer 2 is activated).
Push the POWER button of the MVP-100.
Image should appear on screen after a few seconds.

2) MVP-100 to any device which will accept a Composite Connection
(Video Monitor, Multi-media Projector, TV, VCR, DVD Recorder).
Connect the yellow composite cable to the yellow C-VID output
button on the MVP-100 to the yellow VIDEO IN connection on
the Output Device.
Turn Output Device on
Push the POWER button of the MVP-100.
Image should appear on screen after a few seconds.
3) External microphone to pick up audio along with image.
Connect an external microphone directly to the MIC-IN port on
the MVP-100. (Recommend using a condenser microphone
only)
In order to record any input audio, the A-OUT port on the
MVP-100 (White) must be connected to the White Audio in
button of the Output Device. (Might be the input of a
recording device such as a VCR or DVD recorder. If use
external speakers, a power amplifier would be necessary).
The MVP-100 POWER must be on.
4) Attaching a computer into the system, particularly to record
images from the MVP-100 to the Applied Vision software.
Attach an USB cable from the MVP-100 camera to the USB
port of a computer. See below if want to use a Macintosh
computer.
Press the POWER button of the MVP-100
Turn computer on and activate Applied Vision, image from
MVP-100 camera should appear in Applied Vision view box.
Single images, time-lapse sequences, time-lapse movies, or
movies may now be recorded on the computer, and the image
may be seen on the computer.
To simultaneously broadcast the image to an Output Device,
there are two ways to connect the computer into the system.
* (1) Connect the VGA out of the computer directly to the VGA
IN of the Output Device using a VGA cable. This will only
allow the computer image to be projected by the Output
Device.
Freeze - The Freeze button causes the image to be fixed at the
moment it is pushed, indicated by the term 'frozen'. A click of
the button again, and the live image is restored indicated and
by the term "thaw" on the output device.
Iris - The iris button regulates the amount of light reaching the
MVP-100 camera, and when pushed may lighten or darken
the image projected.
Computer - The computer button only operates when the output of
a computer is hooked into the VGA-IN button. In this
configuration, the Computer button will operate to switch
images between a MVP-100 camera projected image, and
what ever is on the computer screen. Continuous clicking of
this button, results in the projected image alternating between
the MVP-100 camera image and the computer screen image.
Just having the USB connection of the computer hooked to
the MVP-100, will not result in activation of this Computer
button, the VGA-in connection is required. IF there is no VGA
connection between the computer and the Output Device,
pushed the computer button results in the VGA input being
turned on and off.
Bright and Dark - These buttons must be held down, not clicked
in order to get a response. Holding down the Bright button,
will cause the image to get brighter, while holding down the
Dark button will darken the image.
Mirror - Clicking on the Mirror button results in the mirror-image of
whatever is being projected to appear. Alternate clicking of
this button, switches between mirror-image and its
complement.
Pos/Neg - When pushed, this button alternates the image between
the positive or normal image, and its negative.
Some buttons may be used in combinations. For example if the
image is Split, and then Freeze is pushed, both halves of the split image will
freeze. The image will have to be Thawed before the split setting can be
changed. When on Split, the iris will affect the live image, but not the fixed
image. Similarly, when on Split, Bright/Dark and Mirror will affect the live
image, and the fixed image will be unchanged. When the image is on Freeze,
none of the other buttons change the image.
*(2) Connect the VGA Out of the computer directly to the VGA-
IN of the MVP-100 camera. Using a second VGA cable,
connect the MONITOR-OUT of the MVP-100 and connect
to the VIDEO In of the Output Device. Now, when the
COMPUTER button on the MVP-100 is toggled, the image
on the Output Device will alternate between the direct
MVP-100 camera image and the computer image,
including the Applied Vision Software.
5) Using the S-Video output of the MVP-100 camera, to generate
images on the Output Device.
Connect a S-Video cable from the S-VID connector on the
MVP-100 to the S-Video input of the Output Device. This
produces a high resolution S-video image.
Turn Output Device on
Push the POWER button of the MVP-100.
Image should appear on Output Device in a few seconds.
6) Activating a Network Connection. Please see supplemental

Using a Network cable, connect the RJ-45 plug of the
MVP-100
to a Network jack - usually in wall of room
Push the POWER button of the MVP-100.
Using a computer somewhere on the network, call up the
system's Network Browser, and type in the IP address you have
set up.
Image from camera should now appear on the Network device
which called for it. If that peripheral computer is hooked to a
Monitor or multimedia projector, the image being captured by
the MVP-100 can be seen anywhere on the Network.
Note on Macintosh computers: The MVP-100 camera is provided
with drivers which will allow a Macintosh computer to be connected to the
camera and images stored using the Macintosh software. Macintosh users
are instructed to go to the Ken-A-Vision web site
(www.ken-a-vision.com/downloads.asp ). Click software, and instructions
are provided for easy acquisition of a Macintosh license and drivers.
Macintosh computers will not work on the Network RJ-45 connection,
as Macintosh does not support Ken-A-Vision's requirements in this mode.
Using the control buttons on your MVP -100
On the top of your MVP-100 are a series of green buttons. (Please
note that Split, XGA, Freeze and computer buttons will not work on C_VID
and S-VID output images). The name and function of the buttons, in count-
er-clockwise order, are:
Split - Split functions to split the image visible on the Output Device.
Click 1 - image splits in half, with the right half a fixed image,
and the left half a live image. (right/left is as you view the
projected image) (H comp indicated on screen)
Click 2 - image remains split in half, but now the right half is
a live image, and the left half is a fixed image. (H comp
indicated on screen)
Click 3 - Image splits into 2/3 live (right) and 1/3 a fixed (left)
image. (H comp indicated on screen)
Click 4 - Image splits into 5/6 live (right) and 1/6 a fixed (left)
image. (H comp indicated on screen)
Click 5 - Returns to a full screen live picture. (Off Comp
indicated on screen)
XGA - The XGA button manages the MVP-100 camera output
resolution with the Output Device on which the image is
going to be visualized. Clicking this button shifts the output
resolution between settings of
800 x 600 and 1024 x 768.
