EnableWirelessInterface–Checkthe
optiontoenablethewirelessnetwork/band
orunchecktodisable.Note:Itisrecommendedtoleavethissettingchecked.
WirelessName(SSID):Enterthewirelessname(SSID)foryourwirelessnetwork.
This acronym stands for Service Set Identifier and is the name of your wireless
network.Itdifferentiatesyour
wirelessnetworkfromothersaroundyou.Bydefault,
theaccesspoint’swirelessnameisuniquetothedevice.Ifyouchoosetochangethe
SSID,changeittoanamethatyoucaneasilyremember.
WirelessSecurityMode:Selecttheproperwirelessencryption/keytypeforyour
wirelessnetwork.
How
tochoosethetypeofsecurityforyourwirelessnetwork
Thereareafewdifferentwirelesssecuritytypessupportedinwirelessnetworkingeach
having its own characteristics which may be more suitable for your wireless network
taking into consideration compatibility, performance, as well as the security strength
alongwithusingolder
wirelessnetworkinghardware(alsocalledlegacyhardware).
Itisstronglyrecommendedtoenablewirelesssecuritytopreventunwantedusersfrom
accessingyournetworkandnetworkresources(personaldocuments,media,etc.).
Ingeneral,itisrecommendedthatyouchoosethesecuritytypewiththehigheststrength
and performance supported by the
wireless computers and devices in your network.
Pleasereviewthesecuritytypestodeterminewhichoneyoushoulduseforyournetwork.
WirelessEncryptionTypes
WEP:Legacyencryptionmethodsupportedbyolder802.11b/ghardware.Thisisthe
oldestandleastsecuretypeofwirelessencryption.Itisgenerallynot
recommended
tousethisencryptionstandard,howeverifyouhaveold802.11b or802.11gwireless
adaptersorcomputerswitholdembeddedwirelesscards(wirelessclients),youmay
havetosetyouraccesspointtoWEPtoallowtheoldadapterstoconnecttothe
accesspoint.
Note:Thisencryptionstandard
willlimitconnectionspeedsto54Mbps.
WPA:ThisencryptionissignificantlymorerobustthantheWEPtechnology.Muchof
theolder802.11ghardwarewasbeenupgraded(withfirmware/driverupgrades)to
supportthisencryptionstandard.Totalwirelessspeedsunderthisencryptiontype
howeverarelimitedto54Mbps.
WPA‐Auto: This
setting provides the access point with the ability to detect
wirelessdevicesusingeitherWPAorWPA2encryption.Yourwirelessnetworkwill
automatically change the encryption setting based on the first wireless device
connected.Forexample, if the first wirelessclient thatconnects toyour wireless
networkusesWPAencryption
yourwirelessnetworkwilluseWPAencryption.Only
whenallwirelessclientsdisconnecttothenetworkandawirelessclientwithWPA2
encryptionconnectsyourwirelessnetwork willthenchangetoWPA2encryption.
Note:WPA2encryptionsupports802.11nspeedsandWPAencryptionwilllimityour
connectionspeedsto54Mbps
WPA2:
Thisisthemostsecurewirelessencryptionavailabletoday,similartoWPA
encryption but more robust.This encryption standard also supports the highest
connection speeds. TRENDnet recommends setting your access point to this
encryptionstandard.Ifyoufindthatoneofyourwirelessnetworkdevicesdoesnot
supportWPA2encryption,
thensetyouraccesspointtoeitherWPAorWPA‐Auto
encryption.
