1 Safety instructions
1.1 General safety instructions
All requirements and provisions of the building authorities as well as the recognised
rules of construction technology are to be observed.
The owner-operator has to ensure that the load bearing capacity of the ground/surface
after the pit has been built is ensured.
Consult an architect or a structural engineer about the dimensioning of the wall and
oor thickness as well as the reinforcement (if necessary) and to specify the quality
of the concrete.
The owner-operator is responsible for sealing the masonry.
1.2 Safety instructions for operation in hazardous areas
The PFK9-series high precision weighing platforms are approved for operation in
Category3, Division 2 and Category 2, Division 1 hazardous areas. There is an increased
risk in injury and damage when using the explosion-protected weighing platforms in
a potentially explosive atmosphere. Special care must be taken when working in such
hazardous areas.
Any protective foils present in the hazardous area, e.g. on the load plate, must always be
removed.
In hazardous areas, the weighing platforms may only be installed, maintained and
repaired by authorized METTLER TOLEDO service personnel.
No modications may be made to the weighing platform and no repair work may be
performed on the system modules.
Any weighing platform or system modules that are used must comply with the
specications contained in the installation instructions. Non-compliant equipment
jeopardizes the intrinsic safety of the system, cancels the "Ex" approval and renders
any warranty or product liability claims null and void.
The safety of the weighing system is only guaranteed when the weighing system is
operated, installed and maintained in accordance with the respective instructions.
Also comply with the following:
the instructions for the system modules,
the regulations and standards in the respective country,
the statutory requirement for electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas in
the respective country,
all instructions related to safety issued by the owner.
The explosion-protected weighing system must be checked to ensure compliance with
the requirements for safety before being put into service for the rst time, following any
service work and every 3 years, at least.

Prevent the build-up of static electricity. Always wear suitable working clothes when
operating or performing service work in a hazardous area. Avoid strong mechanical
rubbing of the powder-coated surfaces against any material when operating in
Category 3, Division 2 and Category 2, Division 1
Do not use protective coverings for the devices.
Avoid damage to the system components.
If system damage occurs, the system must be put out of operation immediately.
Damaged system components must be replaced immediately.
Only install or perform maintenance work on the weighing system in hazardous areas
if the following conditions are fullled:
The intrinsically safe characteristic values for Category 2 and Division 1 and zone
approval of the individual components are in accord with one another.
The owner has issued a permit ("spark permit" or "re permit").
The area has been rendered safe and the owner's safety coordinator has conrmed
that there is no danger.
The necessary tools and any required protective clothing are provided (danger of
the build-up of static electricity).
The certication papers (certicates, manufacturer’s declarations) must be present.
Lay cabling xed and securely, bending radius > 15 x cable diameter.
Do not cut through cables.
The explosion protected PFK9-series high precision weighing platforms may only be
operated in hazardous areas in conjunction with weighing terminals that have the
appropriate approval and interface specication.
The connection cable may not be separated from the weighing terminal while it is
energized.
To tighten the hexagon nut of the M12 connection cable with an appropriate tightening
torque see the product's installation manual.
Before setting up the system secure the connection between weighing terminal and
weighing platform.

3 Selecting the installation location
3.1 Determining the location of the weighing platform
Do not install near doors (1).
Do not install in highly frequented areas (2).
Protect the weighing platform against strong air movements.
Install the weighing platform at a location free of shocks and vibrations.
Ensure the load-bearing capacity of the pit oor: min. 600 kg / 25 cm
2
3.2 Determining the location of the weighing terminal
Do not install directly behind the weighing platform (1).
Do not install directly next to the weighing platform (2).
Set up the weighing terminal so that it can be read easily and is easily accessible.

1. Ensure that the frame is rectangular.
This is the case when the two diagonals are identical in length. Tolerance: +/– 2 mm.
The frame may not be encased if the two diagonals differ by a greater amount!

2. Use a at-bladed screwdriver to fold out the wall anchors (1) (8 units) on the sides.
3. Break out the prepared cable outlet (2) at the desired side.
4. If desired, mount iron (3) for the reinforcement.

1. Screw the 4 threaded rods (1) through the frame until they contact the bottom of the
rough pit.
2. Level the frame exactly and secure with the nuts (2).
Note
Only an exactly levelled frame guarantees the best weighing results.
5.3 Concreting
1. Encase the frame in concrete. Use the concrete quality in accordance with the
specication by the architect or structural engineer.
2. Let the concrete harden in accordance with the specications of the concrete
manufacturer.
5.4 Completion
After the concrete has hardened:
1. Screw the nuts from the threaded rods.
2. Variant 1: Turn out the threaded rod and remove with the support beams.
Variant 2: Saw/cut off the protruding threaded rods.
3. In the case of moist environments seal the masonry with suitable material.
