7 MONTAGEETRACCORDEMENT
ELECTRIQUE
7.1 IMPLANTATION

vigueur.
L’implantationdelapompedoitpermettreuneventilationcorrectedu
moteurélectriqueenrespectantlacontrainteciaprès:
L’accessibilitéàlapompepourlesopérationsdecontrôleetde
maintenanceultérieuredoitêtrepriseencompte.
Vérifierlaprésencedesmoyensdelevageadaptésàproximitédela
pompe.
7.1.1 FONDATIONS
Ilestpossibled’installerlegroupemotopompesurdifférentssupports
(solbétonné,massifbéton,poutrellesmétalliques,…).Lechoixdece
supportetsondimensionnementsontdelaresponsabilitéde
l’utilisateur.Ilaurauneinfluencesurleniveaudebruitetlesvibrations
renvoyéesparlamachine.
D’unemanièregénérale,lesrèglessuivantesdoiventêtrerespectées:
‐ Lechâssisoulaplaquesupportdelapompedoitêtrefixésurdes
fondationsnerisquantpasdesedéformerlorsdufonctionnementdela
pompe.
‐ Lebétonutilisépourcoulerlemassifdefondationdoitêtre
suffisammentrésistant(aumoinsX0suivantlaDIN1045).Lamasse
recommandéepourdimensionnerlemassifbétondoitêtre3fois
supérieureàcelledugroupecomplet.Cecipermetdedéterminerla
hauteurdumassifenconnaissantlalongueuretlalargeurdecedernier
ainsiquelamassevolumiquedubétonutilisé.
‐ Lasurfacedevantaccueillirlapompedoitêtreplaneetnedevrapas
engendrerdedéformationssurlechâssisaprèsserrage.Silaplanéitén’a
puêtreassurée,lechâssisdevraêtrecalépourfairedisparaîtrele

2.5 SAFETYINSTRUCTIONSFORINSPECTION
ANDINSTALLATIONWORK
Theoperatormustensurethatallinspectionandinstallationwork
arecarriedoutbyauthorizedandqualifiedpersonnel.The
operatorsmustbesufficientlyinformedandmustknowthecontentof
theseinstructionsandoftheincorporatedmaterialsinstructionsbefore
anyoperationiscarriedoutonpumpsandaccessories.
Accesstotheproductmustonlybecarriedoutwhenpumpisata
standstill.Itismandatorythattheproceduredescribedinthe
installationandoperatinginstructionsforshuttingdownthepumpset
arefullyrespected.
Allprotectionsandsecuritydevicesmustbereactivatedor
switchedonimmediatelyafterworksareended.
2.6 MODIFICATIONOFEQUIPMENTAND
USEOFSPAREPARTS
ModifyingtheproductisonlypermittedafteragreementofSalmson.
Useofgenuinesparepartsandaccessoriesauthorizedbythe
manufacturerensuresafetyandproperworkofthepump.
2.7 IMPROPERUSE
Theoperatingsafetyoftheproductisonlyguaranteedforconventional
useandinaccordancewiththetechnicalofferandthisoperating
instructions.Thelimitvaluesindicatedintherelevantcatalogue/data
sheetmustnotbeexceeded.
2.8 PUMPSETDELIVEREDWITHOUTMOTOR
Whenpumpsetisdeliveredwithoutanymotor(aCEintegration
certificatehasbeensuppliedwiththepump)itistheenduser’s
responsibilitytoensurethatallregulationrequirementsarerespected
togetaCEmarking.
Certificationofthecompletepumpsetwillbefromintegrator
responsibility.HewillensurethataIlspecificationslistedinthis
instructionsarefullyrespected.
2.9 SECURITYINSTRUCTIONSTOBE
APPLIEDONEQUIPMENTSUSEDIN
POTENTIALLYEXPLOSIVEATMOSPHERE
Thischaptercontainsoperatinginstructionsthathavetobe
consideredwhenusingthepumpinapotentiallyexplosive
atmosphere.TheATEXadditivesuppliedwiththepumpwillbe
consideredaswell.
Thischapterindicatessupplementaryinstructionsto:
Avoidexcessivesurfacetemperature,
Avoidbuildupofexplosivemixture,
Avoidsparkscreation,
Preventleakages,
Ensurepropermaintenancetoavoidhazard.
Thefollowinginstructionsforthepumpandpumpunitsshallbe
followedwhentheequipmentisinstalledinapotentiallyexplosive
atmosphere.Exproofprotectionisensuredonlyifthepumpunitand
suppliedaccessoriesareinstalledaccordinginstructiongiveninthis
instructionandoperatingmanual.Bothelectricalandnonelectrical
equipmentmustmeettherequirementsofEuropeanDirectiveATEX

Ensurethattheequipmenttemperatureclassissuitableforthe
hazardzone.Itistheplantoperator’sresponsibilitytoselectthe
Atexzoneinwhichthepumpisinstalled.
Pumptemperatureclassisasstatedonthenameplate.Itisbasedona
maximumambienttemperatureof40°C.(askSALMSONforuseinhigher
ambienttemperatures).
Thesurfacetemperaturetakenonpumpsurfaceisinfluencedbythe
temperatureofthehandledliquid.Themaximumpermissible
temperaturedependsontheATEXtemperatureclassandmustnot
exceedthevaluesindicatedintheATEXadditiveattachedtothepump.
Theshaftsealandbearingstemperatureriseduetotheminimum
permittedflowratearetakenintoaccount.

toavoidbuildupofanexplosiveatmosphere.Inadditionitisessential
thatauxiliarysealingsystemsareproperlyfilled.
Toavoidpotentialhazardsfromfugitiveemissionsofvapororgasto
atmospherethesurroundingareashouldbecorrectlyventilated.
2.9.4 PREVENTINGLEAKAGE
Thepumpmustonlybeusedtohandletheliquidsforwhichithas
beendefined.
Ifthepumpisinstalledoutdoor,makesureliquidcontainingpartsare
drainedand/orprotectedagainstfreezing.
Ifleakageofliquidtotheatmospherecanresultinahazardthena
leakagedetectionsensorshouldbeinstalled.
2.9.5 COMPLETEUNIT
ATEXcertificationforacompleteunitaccordingtoATEXDirective
94/9/CEisgivenaccordingtolowerprotectionlevelofthe
integratedcomponent.Thiscommentappliesparticularlytotheelectric
motorprotection.
2.9.6 PUMPUNITDELIVEREDWITHOUTMOTOR/
WITHOUTSENSORS
Ifapartialdeliveryisrequired(electricmotor,flexiblecoupling,
couplingguardorsensornotsupplied),anintegrationcertificate
willbeestablished.
Itwillbetheintegrator’sresponsibilitytosupplymissingpartsinorder
tofulfillATEXrequirementsforthecompletemachine.
2.9.7 COUPLINGGUARD
ThecouplingguardusedinapotentiallyATEXatmosphereshall
meetfollowingrequirements:
Consistofnonsparkingmaterial(e.gbrass),
Mustbemadeofantistaticmaterial,
Mustbedesignedinsuchawaythattherotatingpartswill
notcomeincontactwithanypartoftheguardafterachoc.
2.9.8 MAINTENANCETOAVOIDHAZARD
CREATION
WhenapumpisusedinapotentiallyATEXatmosphereitis
necessarytocheckregularlythefollowingparametersandrespect
amaintenanceplantoensurethattheequipmentrunsinperfect
technicalconditions.
Followingregularchecksaremandatory:
Noleakageoftheshaftseal,
Ballbearingstemperature(onbrackethousingsurface),
Nocavitationsandnoabnormalrunningnoises,
Correctpositionofisolatingvalvesandfunctionofmotorized
valves.
Ifsomepartsarewornorworkinginbadconditionsthepumpmustbe
stoppedimmediatelyandputinsafetyuntilmaintenanceoperationsare
performed.Originofdefault(s)shouldbeeliminated.
2.9.9 PREVENTINGSPARKSCREATION
Necessarymeasuresmustbetakentoavoidsparkscreationincaseof
externalimpact.
Baseplateandpumpsetelementsmustbeproperlygrounded.Ensure
continuitybetweencomponentsofthegroup.
Itappliesto:
Pumphydraulics,
Couplingguard,
Motorframe,
Baseplate.
Thethreadedholeortheearthingplatelocatedonthebaseplateshould
beusedtomakeproperearthing.
3 TRANSPORTANDSTORAGE
3.1 SAFETYMEASURES
Neverrestbelowasuspendedload.
Keepasafedistancewhiletheloadisbeingtransported.
Checkequipmentweightandchooseslingsandotherlifting
devicesaccordingly.Liftingequipmentsshouldbeingoodconditions.
Adjustthelengthoftheliftingdevicessothatpumpor/and
pumpssetismovedhorizontally.
Liftinglugsoreyeboltsthataresometimesattachedtothe
pumportothemotorshouldnotbeusedtoliftacompletepumpset.
Theyshouldbeusedonlytoliftpumppartsduringdismantling
operations.
Usetheliftingpointsthatarementionedonthepumpsetor
refertofollowinginformation.
3.2 DELIVERY
Afterreceptionofgoods,thedelivereditemsmustbeinspected
fordamage.Checkthatallpartsarepresent(checkdescription
andquantitiesagainstdelivery/shippingdocuments).Ifanypartsare
damaged,missingoriftransportationdamageisvisible,thisshouldbe
notedonthefreightdocumentationoronthedeliverynote.
Donotseparateattacheddocumentationfromthepump.
Unpackthegoodandeliminatepackagingaccordingenvironmental
requirements.
Donotremovecapsfrompumpflangesifpumpwillnotbeinstalled
immediately.
3.3 SHORTTERMSTORAGE
Leavepipingconnectioncapsfastenedtokeepdirtandforeign
materialoutofpumpcasingduringstorage.
Ifthepumpwillnotbeusedimmediatelyafterdelivery,itmustbe
storedinatemperate,dry,ventilatedlocationandawayfrom
vibrations.Turnthepumpshaftatintervals(everymonth)toavoid
brinellingofthebearingsandthesealfacesfromsticking.Close
protectivepackingwhendone.
Ifstoredasdescribedabove,thepumpcanbestoredupto6months.
ConsultSALMSONforpreservativeprocedurewhenalongerstorage
periodisrequired.
3.4 HANDLING
Dependingontheirdesignsomepumpscanfalloverbeforethey
aredefinitivelyfastenedtothefloor.Takeallnecessaryactionsto
ensurethatnoonecanbecrushedwhiletheequipmentismoved.
Acranemustbeusedtoliftallequipmentexceeding25Kg.
Palettes,cratesorboxescanbemovedorunloadedbyusinga
forklifttruckorahoistdependingonliftingdevicesavailableonsite.
Onlysuitableliftinggearandloadcarryingequipmentwithvalidtest
certificatesandadequateliftingcapacityfortheloadsinvolvedshould
beusedtoliftandcarrythegoods.Onlyauthorizedpersonalshould
proceedtopumptransportationandtheymustrespectlocalregulations.
Weightofgoodsisindicatedonthedeliverynote.
Onlyusesuitableliftingpointsthatareindicatedonthe
equipmentandrespecthereafterliftingandtransportation
sketches.Pumpsshouldneverbelifteddirectlywithslings.Hooksmust
beusedandplacedindedicatedliftingholes.Choseproperslinglength
orusealiftingbeam.

NOLHpumpsarenotselfprimingpumps.Suctionlineandpumpcasing

7 INSTALLATIONANDELECTRICAL
CONNECTION
7.1 LOCATION
EquipmentsthatwillbeusedinaATEXzoneshouldbe
certifiedaccordinglyandshouldfullycomplywithapplicable
regulations.
Thechoiceofthepumplocationshouldpermitapropercoolingofthe
motorandshouldrespectfollowinglimits:
Locationwillbechosentoensurespacereservationformaintenance
andinspection.
Checkthatthereisampleoverheadforliftingandthatliftingdevicesare
available.
7.1.1 FOUNDATION
Pumpsetcanbeinstalledonvarioustypesoffoundations(onaconcrete
ground,onafoundationconcreteblock,onasteelframework,…).Itis
theresponsibilityoftheendusertoselectproperpumpfoundation
type.Noiselevelandvibrationstransmittedbythemachinedependon
thequalityoffoundation.
Followingrulesaregeneralinstructionsthatshouldberespected:
‐ Baseframeorpumpmattingplateshouldbefastenedtoarigid
foundationwithnoriskofdistortionwhilethepumpisrunning.
‐ Makesurethatthefoundationconcreteisofsufficientstrength(min
qualityX0toDIN1045).Generally,theweightoffoundationisaround3
timesthepumpsetweight.Withpumpsetdimensionsandconcrete
densityitisthenpossibletocalculatethedimensionsoftherequired
foundationblock.
‐ Surfaceunderpumpsetshouldbeflatandshouldnotcreateany
distortionofbaseplateaftertighteningoffoundationsbolts.Ifsurface
qualityisnotsufficient,addshimsbetweengroundandbaseplate.
Distortiononbaseplatesurfaceshouldbelimitedto0,4mm/mafterthe
baseplateisdefinitivelyfastenedtofoundations.
Couplingalignmentischeckedbeforeshipment(pumpsand
motordeliveredonacommonbaseplate)Ifcouplingisnot
correctlyalignedafterinstallationworksaredonethisindicatesthatthe
baseplatehasbecometwistedandlevelingshouldbecorrectedbyre
shimming.
Eveniffoundationworkshavebeendonewithcare,itisnecessaryto

motorheightfirst.Sometimesitisnecessarytoaddshimsunderpump
feettoo.
Aligmentofcouplingshouldbeperformedwithparticularcare
whenthepumpsetisinstalledinanhazardousarea.Correct
alignmentwillavoidabnormalincreasingofthepumpandmotorball
bearingstemperature.
Thermalexpansion:thepumpandmotorwillnormallyhavetobe
alignedatambienttemperaturewithanallowanceforthermal
expansionatoperatingtemperature.Inpumpinstallationinvolvinghigh
liquidtemperatures,alignmentshouldbecheckedagainwhenoperating
temperatureisreached(pumpandpiping).Alignmentqualityshouldbe
checkedjustaftermachineshutdown.

mechanicalsealrunsdry.
Takeprecautionarymeasureswhenmanipulatingdangerous,hot,

8.3 STARTUP
Ifabarrierfluid,flushingfluid,coolingfluidoraheatingfluidis
used,checkthatauxiliarysystemsareactivatedandworking
correctlybeforepumpstartup.
Closeisolatingvalveonpumpdischargeside.
Openallvalvesinsuctionline.
Proceedtopumppriming(ifnotalreadydone).Pumpcasingand
suctionpipeshouldbecompletelyfilledwithfluid.
Turnthepumponandcheckdischargepressureincrease.Compare
thispressuretotheshutoffpressureavailableonthehydrauliccurve
Inordertoavoidanimportantoverheatingoftheliquidinsidethe

Iftemperatureislikelytodropbelowfreezingpoint,pumpcasing
andauxiliaryconnectedsystemsshouldbecompletelydrainedor
otherwiseprotected.Forprolongedshutdownsanadaptedrust
protectivecoatingshouldbeappliedtotheinsideandoutsideofthe
pump.
Pumpingexplosive,toxicorpollutingfluids:makesurethatall
necessaryactionsweretakentoavoidthecreationofahazardfor
peopleorenvironmentduringdrainageoperations.
ProductswhicharesentbacktoSalmsonmustbedrainedand
cleaned.Pumpedfluidshouldbecompletelyremovedfromthe

9 MAINTENANCE
9.1 GENERALINFORMATION
Onlyproperlytrainedandskilledstaffshouldundertake
maintenanceoperations.
Onlyauthorizedpersonnelshouldundertakemaintenanceon
ATEXcertifiedequipments.Makesuretoavoidcreationof
explosionhazardwhileproceedingtomaintenanceinaATEXzone.
Alltechnicaldocumentsdeliveredwiththepumpshouldbeknown
andshouldbeavailablenearthepump.
Themaintenancecrewshouldbeinformedabouttheriskslinkedtothe
useofthepumpandtothepumpedfluidsbeforetheycanstartworking
ontheequipment(dangerousproducts,fluidandpumptemperature,
pressurizedparts,…).Theyshouldbeequippedwithallappropriated
individualsafetyprotections(glasses,gloves,…)andshouldrespectlocal
industrialandsecurityrules.

standstill.Drainandflushpumpcasingwithcarebeforestarting
pumpdisassembly.
Appropriateliftingdevicesshouldbeavailabletohelppersonnelmoving
heavyloads.
Themaintenanceareamustbeclearlyidentified.Installwarningboards

Anyworkonthemachinemustbeperformedwhenpumpis
