PREFACE
This Operator’s Manual is meant for personnel that are operating the
machine and are responsible for its daily maintenance.
Kindly read this manual fully prior to starting work.
Such instructions as are related to your safety and/or that of
others are marked in the margin by a warning triangle with
exclamation mark. These instructions should be observed with
particular care and attention.
Instructions which may lead to serious material damage in case
of non-compliance or incorrect use are marked in the margin by
an exclamation mark.
The machine described in this manual may contain components
which do not form part of the standard equipment but are available
as optional extras.
This is not made clear in all cases, because standard specifications
may differ from country to country.
Furthermore, machines and optional extras may be adjusted to
specific regional conditions whilst they are also subject to
permanent research and innovation.
For this reason, the specifications of your machine may not be
consistent with the pictures in this manual.
WARRANTY CONDITIONS
For those parts which fail in normal operating conditions the factory
will make replacement parts available, free of charge, for a period of
12 (twelve) months from the date of purchase.
Warranty shall not apply if the instructions mentioned in this manual
have not been met, or if they have not been met completely or
correctly.
Neither shall warranty apply in case of modification of the machine
by you or third parties without our foreknowledge and/or
authorisation.
TYPE- AND SERIAL NUMBER OF YOUR
MACHINE
The type/serial number plate is fitted to the front of the machine, in
way of the connection point for the PTO shaft.
In case of correspondence and ordering of spare parts, kindly state
the type- and serial number of your machine.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- Use the machine only for the purpose for which it was designed.
- Follow all prevailing safety regulations, including those laid
down in this manual and occurring on the machine.
- Operate this machine in a safe way.
- The machine should be operated by authorised persons only.
- Be alert and observe all safety precautions.
- Make sure that all safety guards and protection devices are in
place.
- Keep out of reach of moving parts.
- Stop engine, PTO and moving parts before adjusting, cleaning or
lubricating the machine.
- Take care that nobody will be within the dangerous zone while the
machine is in operation and be sure that people are kept well away
from the machine. This is especially important when working
along roads and near or on fields that are accessible to the public.
- Use always a tractor with a cab.
- Clear the field of objects that could be thrown up by the machine.
- Observe the prevailing legislation for public road transport.
- Use flashing lights or other safety signs, when required.
- Don’t stand on the machine.
- Use genuine LELY parts only.
- Remove the pressure from hydraulic systems before starting work
on them and/or before coupling/ uncoupling hydraulic hoses.
- Use protective clothing, gloves and/or safety glasses if required.
- Clean the safety decals regularly so that they can be read at all
times.

EXPLANATION OF SAFETY DECALS ON
THE MACHINE
- Carefully read operator’s manual before handling the machine.
Observe instructions and safety rules when operating.
- Attention! Moving parts.
Stay clear of rotating machine parts.
- Danger of parts dropping down.
Keep away from the parts movement areas.
- Danger of getting jammed by moving parts.
Keep out of reach of all parts as long as they have not yet been
blocked, or are otherwise prevented from moving.
- Tractor PTO speed is never allowed to exceed 540 r.p.m.
- Danger of moving parts!
Read the operating instruction of the PTO shaft.
Never use a PTO shaft without protection.

1 INTRODUCTION
The LELY HIBISCUS 725 and 805 (fig. 1) are pull type, double
cam rakes for central delivery. The machines have 2 rotors with 11
tine arms, each equipped with 4 double tines.
The tines give a clean sweep and move the grass to the centre in an
airy windrow.
The working and swathwidth of the machine can be adjusted in two
positions.
The wheel assembly comprising 4 tyres ensures an excellent raking
operation of the rake also when working in undulating fields.
The HIBISCUS 725 cam rake can be supplied in 2 basic models:
725 Classic and 725 Master, the HIBISCUS 805 cam rake is Only
available in the Master model.
The HIBISCUS Classic model comes as standard with oilbath-
lubricated rotors, non-detachable tine arms, fixed protection
brackets as well as a fixed wheel assembly (fig. 2). The wheel
assembles fitted on the HIBISCUS Classic model comprise of
double tyres.
SA - Steering Axle - is available as an option for the HIBISCUS 725
Classic cam rake.
The HIBISCUS Master cam rake is fitted with grease- lubricated
and segmented rotors, detachable tine arms and telescoping
protection brackets to ensure a lower transport and storing height
(fig. 3).
As standard, the Master model is equipped with steering wheel axles
and a tandem wheel assembly. The rotors themselves come with a
cam adjustment facility, which allows adaptation of the lifting and
descending movements of the tines to prevailing circumstances.

2 MOUNTING BEHIND THE TRACTOR
Machines with a draw bar eye are linked to the tractor as follows:
- Adjust the draw bar eye (fig. 4) at the correct height for the tractor
by means of the parking jack.
- Couple the machine to the tractor; use a solid pin and secure it
carefully.
- Turn up the parking jack and place it in the highest position.
Linking of a machine to the tractor three point hitch is carried out as
follows:
- Adjust the tractor’s three point hitch lower arms at equal height.
- Fit the lower arms to the linkage pins (cat II) of the headstock
(fig. 5).
- Lift the drawbar slightly so that the parking jacks are just clear of
the ground. Maintain this height adjustment of the tractor lift
during operations and transport.
- Place the parking jacks in the raised position.
- Secure the tractor’s lower arms by means of stabilisation chains
or rods eliminating any sideways movements.
- Check if the PTO shaft telescopes smoothly.
- Mount the PTO shaft to the tractor PTO.
At first assembly or use of another tractor: check the minimum
and maximum overlap of the PTO halves

- Fit the safety chain of the protection tube to a rigid part of the
tractor.
- Connect the hydraulic hoses to a double acting hydraulic tractor
valve that has a floating position.
Max. allowed oil pressure: 21,0 MPa (210 bar).
- Place the end of the control cord for locking the ram in the tractor
cab.
- Put the plug of the lighting cable in the tracor socket and
check the lighting for correct operation.

3 TRANSPORT
After the machine has been adjusted to the transport position, it can
be transported by the tractor. Transport width amounts to 2,8 m.
Put the machine into the transport position as follows:
- The HIBISCUS 725 Classic model has a transport height of
3,95 m.
To reduce the transport height of the HIBISCUS Master cam rake
to 3,50 m, the 6 outer tine arms of each rotor can be demounted
and stored in the holder fitted to the back of the machine.
After this procedure, the protection bracket can be telescoped
inwards (fig. 6).
- Pull up the locking hooks for the hydraulic rams and retract the
rams completely.
- Check if the rams are secured by the locking hooks (fig. 7).
- Use all such lighting and warning signals as are mandatory by
law (or other regulations prescribed by the authorities).
- For transport on public roads: make sure that the front axle
weight is sufficient (fit front weights, if necessary) and that the
rear axle weight allowed as a maximum is not needed.
The machine is now ready for transport.
Never allow the PTO shaft to rotate when the machine is in the
transport position.

4 MACHINE ADJUSTMENTS
Put the machine into the working position as follows:
- Pull up the locking hooks of the hydraulic rams and lower the
machine carefully by means of the rams.
In case of a double acting valve without floating position:
extend the ram to such an extent that the extremities of the ram
are right in the middle of the slotted holes.
In case of a double acting valve with floating position: place the
valve in the floating position.
- Fit the outer tine arms.
Slide the protection brackets of the Master model in the extreme
position (fig. 8).
4.1 Working width
The machine’s working width is determined by the position of the
mounting plates for the rotors (fig. 9). These plates are factory-fitted
to the smallest working width.
If the working width or associated swath width does not comply
with your requirements, another position can be set.
This procedure is explained in supplement B.
4.2 Working height
- Adjust the rotor in a horizontal or slightly inclined (forward)
position by means of the three point hitch or the top link A
(fig. 10).
If the required height cannot be obtained with the help of the spindle
adjustment, try this by adjusting the wheels to any of the 4 possible
positions.
- Adjust the working height roughly by positioning the wheels (B).
The end part should be secured with at least 6 hexagonal head
screws to ensure a solid connection.
- Adjust the correct height by means of the spindl C. The tines
should only just touch the ground.
Control of the spindle is easier while the machine is slightly lifted.
The dual wheel axle of the Classic model offers the possibility to set
the rotors in a horizontal position by moving the rings underneath
the pivot bushings up or down the bushings (D).

4.3 Cam track adjustment
Rising and descending of the tines that are fitted on the tine arms is
ensured by the cam track. By adjusting this system, rise and descent
moments can be changed

Correct adjustment depends upon crop/terrain conditions and
forward speed. The cam track can be changed by placing the
adjustment strip (fig. 11) in one of the holes.
5 OPERATING THE HIBISCUS
®
Make sure that nobody is near the machine at the moment
the PTO is engaged.
Do not allow anyone to come within a 25 m radius from the
machine during work.
Stop the tractor engine before leaving the tractor cab.
5.1 General directions
To enable turning on headlands, the rotors can be lifted
(approx. 25°) so that the rams are stopped by the abutments.
To achieve this: actuate the lift rams of the rotors.
- Lift the rotors up to the headland position.
- Engage the PTO at the lowest possible r.p.m. rate.
- Increase the motor speed.
- Drive forward.
Never drive the machine through the crop while the rotors are on
the ground without rotating, since this may cause damage to the
tines and tine arms.
- Lower the machine into the crop.
- Ensure the floating position of the hydraulic valve; the rams have
to telescope smoothly throughout the operation.
If the tractor spool valve does not have a floating position, keep
the valve in the position for lowering while you are driving, just
as long until the extremities of the ram are right in the centre of
the slotted holes.
The machine can be used for making swaths (fig. 12) and for moving
windrows across (fig. 13).

5.2 Forward speed and PTO speed
Select a forward speed and PTO output (450-500 r.p.m., max.
540 r.p.m.) which ensures a good and clean windrow.
If the rotor speed is too high there is the risk of crop not being
released soon enough by the tines so that lumps of material are
scattered behind the machine. If so, reduce the PTO speed.
Lower the forward speed when the clutch is engaged as a result of
overload.
6 DISMOUNTING FROM THE TRACTOR
The machine can be dismounted from the tractor both in the working
and in the transport position.
- Set the parking jack(s) in the bottom position.
- For the draw bar eye model: extend the parking jack so the draw
bar eye is no longer resting on the draw hook.
Lower the tractor hydraulics until the parking jacks rest on the
ground.
- Switch off the tractor engine.
- Disengage the PTO shaft from the tractor PTO.
- Place the PTO shaft in the hook (fig. 14).
- Depressurize the hydraulic system and disconnect the hydraulic
hoses.
- Place the dust caps on the plugs and hook the plugs to the support
on the drawbar (fig. 14).
- Remove the plug for lightning from the tractor socket.
- For the draw bar eye model: remove the pin from the draw bar
clevis.
Disconnect the lower arms from the machine.

7 MAINTENANCE
Correct machine servicing is necessary with a view to
reliable and safe working.
7.1 Maintenance after operations
- Clean the machine thoroughly.
- Grease the machine with a rust preventive.
- Grease the piston rods with an anti-corrosion agent if a longer
period of inactivity is anticipated.
Remove the agent when putting the machine back into operation.
If not, sealing of the rams may be affected after hardening of the
anti-corrosion agent.
7.2 Lubrication
- PTO shafts to be greased every 8 working hours by the grease
nipples on the cross assemblies, protection tubes and the slip
clutch (fig. 15).
- Profiled tubes of the PTO shafts to be greased every 8 working
hours (fig. 15).
- Gears in the gearbox over the rotor A (fig. 16) to be greased every
8 working hours. When greasing, keep turning the rotor bit by bit
ensuring effective distribution of grease all over the gears.
- Bearing blocks B of the drive shaft extension to be greased every
8 working hours.
- Grease the cam tracks C of the HIBISCUS Master cam rakes by
means of a high grade grease (Molykote BR2Plus) every 8 hours.

- Pivot points A (fig. 17) of the swivel wheels of the Classic model
to be greased every 40 working hours.
- Pivot points B of the tandem wheel assemblies of the Master
model to be greased every 40 working hours.
- Pivot points C of the rotors on the frames to be greased every 40
working hours.
- Pivot points D of the protection brackets on the frame support to
be greased every 40 working hours.
- Pivot points E of the frames on the trailer to be greased every 40
working hours.
- Splines F of the height adjustment system (spindle) to be greased
every 40 working hours.
Draw bar eye model:
- Pivot point A (fig. 18) for forward inclining to be greased every
40 working hours.
- Parking jack pivot point B to be greased every 40 working hours.
Portal headstock model:
- Headstock pivot point C to be greased every 40 working hours.
Steering axle model:
- Pivot points D of steering mechanism to be greased every 40
working hours.
- Pivot points E of headstock and steering trestle to be greased
every 40 hours.
- Grease or lubricate all remaining pivot points every 40 working
hours.

7.3 Intermittent maintenance
Intermittent maintenance has to be carried out:
at the start of the raking season;
before prolonged storage of the machine;
when the machine is used extensively during the season.
- Grease all points of the machine listed in § 7.2 “Lubrication”.
- Grease the spring-loaded locking pins of the yoke lock of the PTO
shaft.
- Check if the PTO shaft telescopes smoothly.
A damaged PTO shaft may cause excessive wear and tear to the
machine and tractor.
- Check the machine for damage and flaws.
- Check the gearboxes for oil leakage.
(Refreshment of oil: see § 7.4.)
- Check the tyre pressure (fig. 19).
- Check all bolts and nuts for tightness.
When tightening loose bolts/nuts the torques listed below should
be applied.

- Convince yourself of the presence and undamaged condition of
all safety decals on the machine (fig. 20).

7.4 Change of oil in gearboxes
Change the oil of the gearboxes and the rotor (only HIBISCUS
®
Classic type) of a new rake (or after assembly of a new gearbox)
after approx. 30 working hours for the first time. After that, oil has
to be changed every 250 working hours.
The Classic model of the HIBISCUS cam rake is fitted with oil-
filled rotors.
The rotors of the Master model come with grease lubrication.
- Place a receiving container underneath the gearbox or rotor.
- Unscrew the drain plug from the gear box or rotor in question and
let the oil flow into the receiving container (arrow, fig. 21).
- Fill the gearbox A (fig. 21) with 1,7 l GX85W-140 transmission
oil.
- Fill the rotors B with 6,0 l GX85W-140 transmission oil.
An incorrect oil quantity may lead to overheating and
unrepairable damage of the gearbox and/or the rotor.
Change the oil more often when operating the machine in
extreme working conditions.
A OPTIONAL EXTRAS
Tine loss protection device
The tine arms of the HIBISCUS rake can be simply fitted with tine
loss protection devices. This simple option prevents tines (after
having hit an obstacle) from getting away from their tine arms due
to a broken coil.
Lost tines that stay behind in the field may cause major damage to a
baler, pick-up loader wagon or harvester.
Portal type headstock
For linkage to the tractor, the HIBISCUS Classic cam rake is
supplied with a drawbar eye, combined with a wide angle PTO
shaft. In stead of this linkage facility, a portal type headstock with a
standard PTO shaft can be supplied, if required.
This makes it easier to use the machine when having to use a tractor
that does not have a link-up hook.
Cam track greasing
The cam track of the Master model is greased; the HIBISCUS 805
Master model is fitted as standard with a grease nipple for the cam
track. As an option, such a grease nipple is also available for the
HIBISCUS 725 Master cam rake.
Spare wheel with support
To enable quick mending of a flat tyre in the field, the HIBISCUS
rake can be fitted with a support for a spare wheel.
