2Wire PC Port USB to HPNA Adapter
The PC Port USB-to-HPNA adapter allows you to connect computers to your home network using
existing phone lines.
Following are the steps needed to complete the PC Port installation:
Step 1 - Install the PC Port adapter into a USB port on your computer.
Step 2 - Connect the telephone cable.
Step 3 - Install the adapter device driver.
The following sections give you detailed instructions for completing each step.

Step 1: Install the PC Port adapter
1. Power off your computer.
2. Insert the PC Port adapter into an available USB port on your computer.

Step 2: Connect the telephone cable(s)
Non-DSL Broadband Service (for example, Cable or Fiber) Installation
First PC
Note: The first PC on the network must be connected to the 2Wire gateway via Ethernet, USB or
wireless. It cannot be connected via HPNA; however, if you are connecting additional PCs to your
network via HPNA, you must connect the phone line from the 2Wire Gateway’s HPNA port to a
phone jack.
1. Disconnect power from the 2Wire gateway.
2. Locate the HPNA port on the back of the 2Wire
gateway. Plug one end of the telephone cable into the
HPNA port, the other end into the phone jack.
3. Reconnect power to the 2Wire Gateway. When all
three indicator lights display green, the process is
complete.

Secondary PCs
1. Power off the computer.
2. Connect one end of the
telephone cable to the adapter
port, the other end to the phone
jack.

DSL Broadband Service Installation
You will need to connect the telephone cable to the phone line filter (filters are sold separately).
Refer to the following table for a description of filter types and installation.
Note: The filter examples shown below are 2Wire DSL Filters.
Filter Type If Sharing Wall Jack with Phone
Single port
Insert the other end of the telephone cable into one of the Y-adapter ports.
Connect your DSL filter into the open port on the Y-adapter and your phone into
the filter.
Insert the Y-adapter into the wall jack.
Dual port
Insert the other end of the telephone cable into the port labeled DSL/HPNA or
DSL HPN.
Connect your telephone into the port designated for phone service.
Insert the DSL filter into the wall jack.
Wallmount
After your DSL wall mount filter has been installed and the telephone is connected:
Insert the other end of the telephone cable from the PC Port into the port labeled
DSL or DSL HPNA.

Step 3: Install the adapter device driver
Installing drivers for Windows XP
1. With your computer powered on, insert
the 2Wire Driver CD into your CD-ROM
drive.
2. When the Found New Hardware Wizard
window opens, select
Install the software
automatically (Recommended)
and click
Next to continue.

3. Windows loads the drivers from the CD
on to your computer.
4. When the Completing the Found New
Hardware Wizard screen opens, click
Finish. The driver installation is complete.

Installing Drivers for Windows 2000
1. With your computer powered on, insert the
2Wire Driver CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. When the Found New Hardware Wizard
window opens, click
Next to continue.

3. The next window prompts you to install device
drivers. Select
Search for a suitable driver for my
device (recommended), and click Next.
4. When the Locate Driver Files window opens,
deselect the Floppy disk drives checkbox, select
the
CD-ROM drives checkbox, and click Next.

5. When the Driver Files Search Results window
opens, click
Next.
6. When the Completing Found New Hardware
Wizard window opens, click Finish.

Installing Drivers for Windows ME
1. Power on your computer. Insert the 2Wire
Driver CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. When the Add New Hardware Wizard window
opens, select
Automatic search for a better
driver (Recommended)
, and click Next.
3. After the driver files are copied, click
Finish.

4. If the System Settings Change window opens,
click
Yes to restart your computer. Your
installation is complete.
Installing Drivers for Windows 98 SE
1. Power on your computer. Insert the 2Wire
Driver CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. When the Add New Hardware Wizard opens,
click
Next to continue.

3. When the next window opens, select
Search
for the best driver for your device
(Recommended)
, and click Next.
4. Deselect the
Floppy disk drives checkbox,
select the CD-ROM drive checkbox, and click
Next.

5. Verify that
The updated driver (Recommended)
radio button is selected and click Next.
6. Windows locates the best driver for your
device. Click
Next to continue.

7. When the Insert Windows installation CD
window opens, remove the 2Wire Driver CD,
and insert your Windows installation CD.
8. Click
Finish. Remove the Windows installation
CD from the CD-ROM drive, and insert the
2Wire Driver CD.
9. If the System Settings Change window opens,
click
Yes to restart your computer. Your
installation is complete.

Installing Drivers for MacOS 10.2
1. Power on your computer. Insert the 2Wire
Driver CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. If you have set up an administrator name
and password, the authenticate screen
opens. Enter your administrator name and
password and click
OK.

3. Open the 2Wire USB folder from the CD
and click the
2Wire USB Driver. Click
Continue.
4. Accept or decline the License Agreement.
Click
Accept to continue your PC Port
installation. Selecting Decline will end your
installation.

5. Select Easy Install. If Easy Install is not
already selected in the 2Wire USB Driver
window, select it from the pull-down
menu.
6. After the USB driver has been copied to
your computer, you are prompted to
restart your computer.
