1. General features
1.5 Supply
M7000CB and M7000CB/EVO have a double power supply circuit, that means that they
can operate with both AC and DC supply or with only one of the two indifferently
In presence of both power supplies, the energy is taken from the AC source
5
2.1 Selection keys
The front panel of the electronic control box has two LED displays showing the voltages
of the two power sources with their correspondent keys (A) for Main line and (B) for
Secondary line – which allows to select the measurements.
The following keys: SET (E) - AUT (F) - MAN (G) - RESET (H) allow to select the operating
mode, which is indicated by the corresponding LED.
A mimic diagram is located at the center of the front panel; it shows the status of the
circuit breakers for load connection.
Two keys – (C) and (D) – can open and close the circuit breakers (buttons are active only
after pressing the MAN key).

2.2 Measurement selection
When the key located under each display (A) and (B) is pressed several times, it will be
possible to view the various measurements of the line sequentially.
Line-to-line voltages, line-to-neutral voltages (in case of single-phase lines) are available
for each line.
The combinations of the red LEDs indicate which measurement is selected. The list of
measurements may change depending on whether the electronic control box is set up for
the three-phase, two-phase or single-phase control.
After 1 minute without touching the key, the measurement returns to the default mea-
surement, which may be the first voltage line-to-line or the first voltage line-to-neutral,
depending on how the voltage control is set up.
In case of alarms or messages, the display will be occupied by the alarm code.
By pressing the selection key, it is possible to temporarily hide the alarm and access the
measurements.

The following table describes the meaning of the various LEDs.
Some of them are bicolor and have a different meaning according to the color.
7
The four keys SET / AUT / MAN / RESET can be used to select the required operating
mode, which will be indicated when the corresponding red LED lights up.
If the LED indicating the selected operating mode flashes, it means that the device is
communicating through the serial interface and that it could execute remote commands,
including the mode change as well.
3.1 Reset mode (red RESET key LED)
The electronic control box does not execute operations but it just displays the status of
the voltages and the circuit breakers.
The opening and closing control outputs of the switches remain all open, hence allowing
for the manual control from the front side of the motor controls. If the emergency input
is activated, the unit will in any case order the opening of the switches.
The generator control output will set up for switching off the group.
The status alarms of the circuit breakers are disabled.
When an alarm occurs, it must be reset by pressing the RESET key. If you are already in
this operating mode, press the RESET button again.
3.2 Manual mode (red MAN key LED)
The manual mode allows the operator to electrically open/close the circuit breakers with
the special keys located at the front side of the device.
In this mode, the voltages are constantly monitored but the device just displays their
status.
When one of the control keys is pressed for at least 300ms, the electronic control box
changes the status of the circuit breakers from open to closed and vice-versa.
If a command is given to close a circuit breaker while the other is already closed, the unit
will initially open the other circuit breaker, wait for the interlocking time and then it will
close the required circuit breaker.
In manual mode, all the status alarms of the circuit breakers (disconnected and tripped)
are disabled. The anomalous condition is signaled on the LED but it will not be stored or
dealt with as an alarm.
It is possible to manually control the startup and shutdown of the generator by holding
down the key (G) MAN for 5 consecutive seconds. As long as the manual mode is kept,
the status of the generator will remain the one required.
3.3 Automatic mode (red AUT key LED)
In automatic mode, the device independently executes both opening and closing
operations of the circuit breakers as well as the startup and shutdown of the generator,
if any.
When the main line (MAIN) goes beyond the limits, after the set delay times, the device
disconnects the load from the main line and connects it to the secondary line (SEC),
thus controlling both the startup of the generator, if any, and the changeover times
between the circuit breakers.
When the main line falls within the limits, the device switches again the load on it and
determines the cooling cycle, if required, of the generator.
The automatic cycles of operation vary according to the type of application (utility-to-
utility, utility-to-generator).
3. Operating mode
Electronic Control Box
8
3.5 On-load test mode
By starting from the automatic mode and by pressing the (F) and (D) key simultaneously
for 5 consecutive seconds, it will be possible to carry out an operational test (on-load
test) which will totally simulate a lack of the power line voltage lasting one minute.
Hence, the unit behaves exactly as if the line has fallen out of the limits, thereby
using all programmed times and parameters for the changeover so as to verify their
adequacy.
The execution of the on-load test is determined by TES flashing on the display.
To end the execution of the test in advance, repeat the procedure with keys (F) and (D)
for 5 seconds or start the reset mode.
3.4 Off-load test mode
By starting from the automatic mode and by pressing the (F) key for 5 seconds, it will be
possible to test the generator for 5 minutes.
The generator is manually started in order to check its operation but since the electronic
control box is in automatic mode, the voltage controls will remain active.
By doing so, it is possible to verify the correct operation of the generator, thus maintaining
the coverage of the load. Under normal conditions, the load remains connected to the
main line, hence the generator operates with no load (off-load).
The execution of the off-load test is determined by TES written steadily on the display.
To end the execution of the test in advance, press the (F) key again for 5 seconds or start
the reset mode.
4.1 Utility-to-generator Application
In the Utility-to-generator application (U-G, default setup) the load is normally connected
to the main line. If there is an anomaly on the line or in case of a transfer signal set from
the outside, a start signal will be sent to the generator which supplies the secondary
line.
When the voltage of the generator reaches the programmed limits, the electronic control
box will order the changeover on the secondary line.
When the main line returns, the load is transferred again and the generator is kept in
operation with no load for a certain period of time so as to allow its cooling.
The unit sends a start/stop command to the group through a relay output and can receive
digital signals from the group indicating its status through programmable inputs.
4.2 Utility-to-utility Application
In the utility-to-utility application (U-U), the load is normally connected to the main line
and the changeover to the secondary line occurs if there is an anomaly on the main line
or in case there is a transfer signal set from the outside.
4. Applications
Please note: The execution of
this test involves transferring
the load, hence a power failure
during the changeover due to
the interlocking times.

The circuit breakers control is carried out through two separate relays, one for closing
and one for opening.
In reset mode, both control relays remain open, except for the emergency condition
where the opening can be controlled.
In case of an anomaly on the switch, hence causing an alarm, the control outputs will
both be opened till the resetting of the alarm.
There are two separate modes for controlling the circuit breakers. These can be selected
by using the parameter P1.03
5.1 With feedback (default setup)
The status indicated by the two-color front LED is the one detected by the auxiliary
contacts.
The timeout alarms are enabled. They are generated if the circuit breakers do not reach
the required position within a programmable time P1.04 or immediately if they change
position when no command has been sent.
The control outputs are timed. When the circuit breaker has executed the required
operation, the output still remains energized for a certain period of time (+1 second
during closing and +15 seconds during opening, in order to allow the springs of the
motor operators to be completely charged) and then it is released.
The normal status of the control outputs is open.
The interlocking times start when the rst circuit breaker is actually opened, detected by
the input, and last for 0.5 steady seconds.
Example of a changeover with
feedback, assuming a utility-to-
utility commutation.
The feedback input status is
shown in blue.
The status of the control outputs
is shown in green.
The changeover time is shown
in yellow.
5.2 Without feedback
The circuit breakers status LEDs remain off.
The timeout alarms are disabled.
The Opening/Closing control outputs remain constantly in the required position for the
circuit breaker.
The changeover times between the opening of a switch and the closing of another start
during the commutation of the outputs and are steady at 6 sec.
Example of a changeover with
no feedback.
The actual status of the circuit
breakers is shown in blue.
The status of the control outputs
is shown in green.
The changeover time is shown
in yellow.

TAny condition required to determine whether a supply source is or is not suitable is
determined by the user through the P0 menu (system nominal data) and the P2 and P3
menus (voltage control, main line and secondary line, respectively).
It is possible to set up the system nominal data, such as nominal voltage and frequency,
through the P0 menu, which will be used as a reference for setting up the percentage
thresholds of the following menus.
It is possible to set up a TV transformation ratio in case a lower voltage, relative to the
actual voltage of the system, is applied to the voltage inputs of the unit. Here, again, the
display and the setup of the thresholds will be executed in actual sizes referred to the
system.
The electronic control box can be programmed to perform voltage controls on three-
phase, two-phase or single-phase nets (via the P0.03 parameter).
The following describes the anomalies monitored by the voltage control.
Columns M7000CB and M7000CB/EVO point out the presence of the function within their
unit models.
Control M7000CB M7000CB/EVO Description
Minimum voltage One or more phases too low
Maximum voltage One or more phases too high
Phase failure
Threshold under which the device can
operate faster compared to a normal
reduction
Asymmetry
(unbalance)
Phases included in the Maximum-Minimum
interval, yet too different between each other
Minimum frequency Frequency too low
Maximum frequency Frequency too high
Sequence of phases Reverse rotation of phases
Each anomaly has an independent delay time. The anomaly must last consecutively longer
than the time specified for invalidating the voltage presence signal.
All controls, except for the minimum voltage control, can be excluded separately by
setting the related parameter to OFF.
The minimum and maximum voltage limits are specified by setting up two thresholds
each, one which determines the point beyond which the voltage is no longer considered
acceptable (e.g. P2.01) and the other, closer to the nominal voltage, which determines
the point in which it becomes compatible again (e.g. P2.02). The distance between
these two thresholds determines the hysteresis. For instance, it may be considered
that when the nominal value is below 80%, the voltage may no longer be useable and
that in order to be considered useful, it must rise over 85%, thereby determining a 5%
hysteresis.
The same concept applies to the maximum voltage.
As for the frequency thresholds, there is a fixed 1% hysteresis of the nominal frequency.
The retrieval after a phase failure occurs when the voltage rises above the minimum
voltage retrieval threshold.
Example of variation of the main
line voltage within the mini-
mum and maximum thresholds
and relative hystereses, with
indication of the presence /
absence delay times. The ex-
ample considers the second-
ary line voltage absent with its
circuit breaker open, hence
the changeover times are not
shown. The INTERR. bar repre-
sents the required status of the
main line switch.

P2.01 - P2.02 - P2.03 - The first two parameters determine the minimum voltage threshold and its
hysteresis when retrieved. P2.02 cannot be set to a value which is lower than P2.01. P2.03 determines
the delay time for the activation of this protection. See chapter on Voltage controls
P2.04 - P2.05 - P2.06 - The first two parameters determine the maximum voltage threshold and its

The following messages can be displayed, at different moments:
Code Description
- - -
(Dashes) - The interlocking time is in progress.
They are displayed from the side in which the load is being transferred
Sta
(Start) - Indicates that the Start Generator command has been sent
Coo
(Cooling) - Indicates that the generator is being left running for the cooling
Tes
(Test) - When steady, it indicates that an off-load test - namely a power unit test
with the voltage controls active - is currently in progress
Tes
(Test) - When flashing, it indicates that an on-load test, namely an automatic net
failure simulation, is currently in progress
Loc
(Locked) - It indicates that the keyboard function one is trying to execute is
locked
8. Diagnostic
messages
When the unit is running, it is possible to verify a number of abnormal situations which are
signaled in different ways.
Some alarms (tripped, withdrawn) have a dedicated LED which begins to flash when the
alarms go on.
Other alarms are signaled through a code which consists of an A (alarm) and a number
indicating which alarm it is. This code will be flashing on one of the displays. If the code
refers to the main line branch, the alarm will be displayed on the left. Conversely, if the
code refers to the secondary line branch or if it is a generic alarm (e.g. battery), it will be
displayed on the right.
When an alarm goes on, the red LED “ALARM” flashes in sync with the dedicated LED or
with the alarm code.
The Global alarm relay output is de-energized during alarm conditions whereas it is
energized under normal conditions. If the unit does not operate due to a failure or power
supply problems, it will generate an alarm condition on its contact.
Some alarms are automatically reset when the conditions generating them fail to work.
Other alarms, described in the chart in the RIT column, are retentive, thus they are
stored.
Once the alarm has been stored, the abnormal conditions must be eliminated in order to
be reset. Also, the operator must press the RESET key or send a special message via the
serial interface.
